Joe Philbin
Head Coach
COLLEGE: WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON
NFL: 12TH SEASON
DOLPHINS: FOURTH SEASON
PRO CAREER
Joe Philbin became the ninth coach in Dolphins history on January 20,
2012. Philbin joined Miami after serving as the offensive coordinator
with the Green Bay Packers from 2007-11. During that era, his offense
ranked in the top 10 in points scored and total yards every season. In
five seasons at the helm of the Packers’ prolific offense, the team scored
2,263 points (third in the NFL during that span). In 2011, the Packers set
franchise records for victories (15), points (560), and total yards (6,357).
The 560 points ranked second in NFL history. In 2008-09, the Packers
became the first team in league annals to have a 4,000-yard passer (Aaron
Rodgers), a 1,200-yard rusher (Ryan Grant) and two 1,000-yard receivers
(Greg Jennings, Donald Driver) in consecutive seasons. Philbin joined the
Packers in 2003 as an assistant offensive line coach. He served as the tight
ends/assistant offensive line coach from 2004-05 and offensive line coach
in 2006. Career record: 23-25.
In 2014, the Dolphins’ second-straight 8-8 mark included several
improvements in all three phases. One of the highlights during the season
came when the team defeated the San Diego Chargers 37-0 to start the
month of November. It was the Dolphins’ first shutout victory since Dec.
10, 2006 when they beat the New England Patriots 21-0 in Miami. Further,
Miami joined elite company with its first six wins of the season being by at
least 13 points. Only three other teams since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger
recorded their first six (or more) wins in a season by margins of 13 or more
points: the 2007 New England Patriots, 1999 St. Louis Rams and 1984
Washington Redskins.
Under the guidance of Philbin and first-year Offensive Coordinator Bill
Lazor, Miami’s offense experienced a dramatic improvement in 2014. Not
only did the unit score 24.3 points per game, tied for the eighth-highest
season average in team history and most since the team averaged 24.9 in
1995, but its 4.5-point increase from 2013 (19.8 points per game) was the
fourth-highest increase in the NFL over those two seasons. Quarterback
Ryan Tannehill made significant strides in his third season and finished
with 4,045 passing yards, establishing a new career high. He joined Dan
Marino as the only quarterbacks in franchise history to surpass 4,000
yards in a season. His 27 touchdowns were a career high and the sixth
most in Dolphins history, and the most since Marino threw 30 in 1994.
Additionally, Tannehill’s 92.8 passer rating was the fifth highest in a season
in Dolphins history and his 66.4 completion percentage marked the
second-best all-time. Lamar Miller rushed for 1,099 yards and became the
first Dolphins 1,000-yard rusher since Reggie Bush in 2011 (1,086 yards).
It marked the first time in team history that the franchise has produced
a 4,000-yard passer and a 1,000-yard rusher in the same season. Jarvis
Landry recorded 84 passes, the fourth most in a season in franchise
history. With that mark, he set a team record for most receptions in a
season by a rookie and it was the sixth-most receptions by a rookie in
NFL history. Mike Pouncey was tabbed to his second-straight Pro Bowl,
being honored as a guard in 2014 after making the team at center the
year prior.
Led by Pro Bowl performers Brent Grimes and Cameron Wake, the
Dolphins defense contributed three defensive touchdowns on the season
and had a four-game stretch where they forced 11 takeaways (most by the
team since 2003). Jelani Jenkins emerged in his second NFL season and
led the team with 108 tackles. Defensive Coordinator Kevin Coyle’s pass
defense finished sixth in the NFL, allowing 222.3 passing yards per game.
The Dolphins set the franchise record for blocked punts in a season
with three in 2014. They added two blocked field goals, giving Miami
five blocked kicks on the season, the most since the team blocked seven
in 1977. Explosive plays weren’t limited to the block units as Landry won
AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for October when he returned five
kickoffs for 178 yards (35.6), with a long of 54 yards.
His 8-8 record in 2013 marked the second straight season the Dolphins
improved their win total under Philbin, and he became the Dolphins’ first
coach to improve the team’s record two consecutive years since the 1997
and 1998 campaigns. In addition, the Dolphins were one of only four teams
in the NFL in 2013 (along with Seattle, Cincinnati, and Carolina) to improve
their record for a second straight season.
Along the way, the Dolphins improved in a number of key areas. Philbin
emphasized the importance of takeaways throughout the year and the
defense responded by recording a takeaway in 15 of their 16 games,
one of only five NFL teams to accomplish that feat in 2013. In addition,
the Dolphins improved their turnover ratio by a plus-8 margin from the
previous season, the eighth best turnover improvement in the league. The
Dolphins tied for the third least penalized team in the league.
The Dolphins finished third in the AFC in scoring defense, while limiting
opponents to a 77.3 passer rating, the third lowest total in the AFC and the
fifth lowest total in the NFL. The Dolphins also had the best two-minute
offense in the NFL, producing a league-high 36 points in drives that began
with two minutes or less left in the half or the game.
Individually, Tannehill continued his development under Philbin’s direction,
becoming only the second Dolphins QB in team history (along with Dan
Marino) to throw for 24 or more touchdowns in a season. Brian Hartline
notched his second consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season, only the fifth
time that has been accomplished in Dolphin annals. In addition, Charles
Clay developed into one of the premier tight ends in the league, while
Pouncey was named to his first Pro Bowl team.
Defensively, two Dolphins,Wake and Grimes, were named to the Pro Bowl
as a result of their outstanding season-long play, while punter Brandon
Fields earned his first Pro Bowl selection while finishing second in the NFL
in punting with an average of 48.8 yards per kick.
In 2012, in Philbin’s first year as an NFL head coach, the Dolphins finished
in second place in the AFC East with a 7-9 record. Under his leadership,
the team finished tied for first in the AFC in touchdowns allowed by
defense (32), and its 42.6 percent of red zone touchdowns allowed was the
lowest figure in the NFL. Defensively, the team ranked third overall in the
AFC in points allowed per game (19.8), and the team’s 36.6 percent third
down conversion rate against was the sixth best in the AFC and the tenth
best mark in franchise history. In addition, the Dolphins had the third fewest
penalties in the NFL in 2012.
Also under Philbin’s guidance, Tannehill set franchise rookie records in
several offensive categories and became the first quarterback in Dolphins
history to start in all of the team’s games in his first year in the league.
In addition, Wake recorded 15 sacks to finish fourth in the NFL in that
category while earning a starting role on the AFC’s Pro Bowl team. For the
third time in team history, the Dolphins had four players with 95 or more
tackles.

MIAMI DOLPHINS IN THE COMMUNITY THIS OFFSEASON GENERAL MANAGER DENNIS HICKEY, ROOKIES HOST SPECIAL OLYMPICS CLINIC
Miami Dolphins General Manager Dennis Hickey with Special Olympics athlete
Jay Ajayi (33) pumps up huddle of Special Olympics athletes
Miami Dolphins General Manager Dennis Hickey and all twenty two rookies hosted Special Olympic athletes from Miami-Dade and Broward
counties at the Doctors Hospital Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University to promote physical fitness in the South Florida community.
“This is the second time the Dolphins had our athletes come and work with the players. This is absolutely a fantastic event,” Special Olympics
Florida Board Chair Ron Fulop said. “I actually have a daughter who’s a Special Olympian and I can tell you when they have an opportunity
to partner with a professional sports athlete, it’s just like virtually anybody in terms of we’ll do whatever it takes to be exposed to these great
athletes. For them to give us their time and their commitment to this is truly extraordinary and it’s something that these athletes will remember
for the rest of their lives.”
More than eighty Special Olympics athletes in grades 6th-12th played flag football games, ran through obstacle course stations and enjoyed
lunch with the rookies. The athletes came from Homestead Middle, Homestead High, Our Pride Academy, Taravella High, Olson Middle and
Jose Marti Park.
“It’s about the Dolphins way – that’s what we’re about. From Mr. Ross all the way on down. We’re about giving back to the community,” Hickey
said. “Our rookies do a great job, if you watch them out here. They’re making that connection, having a great time. It’s a bonding for them. It’s
also integrating them into what it takes to be a Miami Dolphin: playing on the field and winning games; but it’s also giving back to the community.”
“It was really fun coming out here with these kids,” Dolphins first round draft pick DeVante Parker said. “They look up to us, and it’s a great thing
for us to come out here and participate with them and have fun with each other.”

The Miami Dolphins Rookie class on Friday, June 5 participated in its second community service project at L.A. Lee YMCA Family Center in Fort
Lauderdale.
“Being in the position that we’re in – being in the NFL with the Dolphins organization – people look up to you, children look up to you,” Dolphins fifth round draft pick Bobby McCain said. “It feels good to help people in need. Having the rookies out here, having us come together as
one unit with the Dolphins partnering with Rebuilding Together; it just feels good to come out and serve the community.”
In partnership with Rebuilding Together Broward County, the rookies beautified the L.A. Lee YMCA by painting walkways, stairwells, mulching
the herb garden and play areas we well as assembling picnic tables as part of their effort to immerse themselves in service to the South Florida

MIAMI DOLPHINS IN THE COMMUNITY THIS OFFSEASON ENTIRE ORGANIZATION BEAUTIFIES SCHOOL IN HIALEAH
Miami Dolphins at Mae M. Walters Elementary School
Dolphins Head Coach Joe Philbin with Walters Principal Milko Brito
The Miami Dolphins players, coaches and staff worked together to beautify Mae M. Walters Elementary School. More than 300 members of the
Dolphins participated in painting, landscaping and providing various improvements to the school.
“We’re going into our 50th season and since 1966 -- since the inception of the Miami Dolphins organization being a part of the community
-- having a positive impact on other people has been a huge tradition and we’re just delighted to be able to participate today and in small way
help out beautifying this school,” Miami Dolphins Head Coach Joe Philbin said.
Mae M. Walters Elementary was built in 1955 and in need of some community support. Those on site assisted in more than 20 different projects
to enhance the learning and educational environment for the 600 students who attend the school.
“It was great to see players and coaches work alongside staff to further the Dolphins’ impact on the South Florida community. We were happy
to be here in Hialeah improving the educational environment of these students,” Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications &
Community Affairs Jason Jenkins said.
Those assignments included putting new furniture in the lobby, refurbishing the school’s marquee, mulching and planting trees and shrubbery,
painting benches and walls, building picnic tables and a vegetable garden as well as painting and furnishing a teacher’s lounge.
“I’m very excited that we were selected by the district and the Miami Dolphins for this beautiful renovation project,” Mae M. Walter Elementary
Principal Milko Brito said. “Our students when they come back for the next school year, they’re going to be excited because this is a surprise.
They’re going to see brand new walls, landscaping, the marquee, benches. We’re going to have more pride in our school.”
This latest project is another illustration of the 27-year partnership between the Dolphins and Miami-Dade County schools. Players were excited
for the opportunity to bond while serving in the community. “You got to count your blessings and the best thing to do is give those blessings
back,” Dolphins Defensive End Olivier Vernon said. Center Mike Pouncey weighed in: “I think it builds team chemistry tremendously. You’ve got
a group of guys coming to work together to accomplish one thing and that’s to make this elementary school look a lot better than what it did
before.” Defensive End Cameron Wake said, “It’s all about the kids. So today is just a little bit that we can do and hoping it goes a long way.”
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill said, “We love our community. We love the area we live. And to be able to give back, help a school that I think really
needed it at this time. It’s going to turn out really nice. I’m excited about the work we’re doing.”

50TH SEASON CELEBRATIONS
MIAMI DOLPHINS ANNOUNCE TOP 50
VOTING AND THROWBACK UNIFORM AS
PART OF 50TH SEASON CELEBRATION
PRESENTED BY PEPSI
The Miami Dolphins as part of the franchise’s 50th season celebration presented by Pepsi announced on July 29 additional elements to mark the
milestone, including open fan voting for the team’s Top 50 players and a
hallmark throwback uniform. The throwback uniform and the Top 50 players will be an integral part of the organization’s 50th Season Homecoming
festivities on Dec. 14 when the Dolphins play host to the New York Giants
at Sun Life Stadium.
50th Season Patch
The Miami Dolphins announced on May 9 elements for the team’s 50th
season celebration, including a throwback jersey, commemorative book,
voting for the top 50 players and greatest game in Dolphins history as
well as themes that will surround each home game at Sun Life Stadium.
This year, the franchise celebrates 50 seasons in South Florida, commemorating the milestone with several unique elements that will be unveiled
throughout this golden landmark. The organization for the occasion has
unveiled a customized 50th season logo. This logo will be displayed on
all associated merchandise, campaigns, content on social platforms, video
and all media as well as a patch on all player jerseys throughout the 2015
football season.
Additionally, the Dolphins unveiled the “Since” campaign, chronicling all
five decades of the franchise from the fans’ perspective and capturing the
moments when the Dolphins became part of the fabric of their fandom.
The team will roll out noted moments in time from historical assets
through the current day, and ask for user generated content submitted
through social platforms from fans and their “Since Moment” at dolphins.
com/sincemoment or #SinceMoment. The campaign was created in
house, and will be activated on social and digital platforms, with heavier
out of home activation closer to the 2015 NFL season.
“Fins at Fifty” is the team’s official 50th Anniversary coffee table book,
chronicling and celebrating the rich 50-year history of Miami Dolphins
football. Starting with a foreword by Don Shula, the definitive, 256-page
hardcover book will take fans on a half-century journey covering unforgettable players and coaches and the memorable games and seasons they
produced. Using one-of-a-kind photos and historical artifacts from the
team’s official archives, as well as unique first-person accounts from some
of the greatest names in Dolphin history, the book will tell a colorful story
of the team’s unmatched history that cannot be found elsewhere. The
book is being published by Skybox Press, one of the country’s leading
publishers of iconic sports coffee table books, and is available for pre-sale
in the Dolphins team stores, and online at DolphinsBook.com
Pepsi as presenting sponsor of the Dolphins 50th season celebration has
inclusion in the team’s microsite at Dolphins.com/Since, presence within
the campaign’s out of home signage as well as online voting for the Top
50 players.
Beginning July 29 through Sept. 15 on Dolphins.com, fans have an opportunity to help select an all-time team of the 50 best players in Dolphins
history. Fans, along with alumni, South Florida media who regularly cover
the team and a blue-ribbon panel, will each contribute input in the team’s
final composition. Those four groups will vote from a list of 100 players
throughout the team’s history compiled by the Dolphins organization. The
100 were selected based on a number of factors, with heavy emphasis on
excellence (how well they played), longevity (how long they contributed
to the team at a high level) and teamwork (how well they made the players around them better).
The Dolphins will wear a throwback uniform with a nod to the team’s
storied history while incorporating innovative aspects of modern design
and functionality for the Monday Night Football game. Aqua, orange
and white were new to football when the Miami Dolphins hit the gridiron
in 1966. Since then, the team’s color scheme has remained, but the
aesthetics have undergone a subtle evolution including, in the 1970s, the
addition of contrast cuffs. In commemoration of the franchise’s 50th year,
the Dolphins refresh their original uniform composition — a solid aqua
jersey punctuated by white and orange numbers paired to white pants —
with the NFL Nike Elite 51 Uniform.
This will mark the first time that the Dolphins have worn throwback uniforms for a home game and just the second time overall in team history.
The only other time the Dolphins wore a throwback uniform was on Nov.
27, 2003 in a 40-21 Thanksgiving Day win at Dallas, where the organization commemorated the 30th anniversary of the 1973 team that captured
Super Bowl VIII.
While the team will don this uniform as part of the Homecoming celebration on Dec. 14, fan jerseys as well as a complete line of 50th season
merchandise are available now for purchase on Dolphins.com.
Finally, throughout the 2015 season the Dolphins will celebrate the 50th
season with elements at each game, including a special tribute to 1966
members on field. This 50th season marks one of the best home schedules in years, with the Dec. 14 home matchup against the N.Y. Giants
featuring Alumni Weekend and throwback jerseys worn by the team.

CEFALO, GRIESE AND ROSE RETURN TO THE BOOTH IN 2015
WBGG (105.9 FM) and WINZ (940 AM) are in their sixth year as the flagship stations
for the Miami Dolphins Radio Network.
On March 1, 2010, the Dolphins announced a multi-year radio broadcast rights
partnership with Clear Channel Communications that resulted in WBGG-FM (Big
105.9) and WINZ-AM (940 – The Sports Animal) being the Dolphins flagship stations.
All Dolphin preseason, regular season and playoff games are broadcast exclusively in
South Florida on those two outlets and throughout South and Central Florida on the
Miami Dolphins Radio Network.
In addition to the game broadcasts, a two-hour pregame and a two-hour postgame
show rounds out “Dolphins Game Day Live” coverage on WBGG, WINZ, The Miami
Dolphins Radio Network, Dolphins.com, FanVision, the In-Stadium Television Network, the Dolphins Television Network and the Dolphins mobile app.
Jimmy Cefalo begins his 11th season as part of the Dolphins’ radio team, and is certainly well known as both a broadcaster and a former Dolphins player. For many years
he served as the sports anchor for WPLG-TV (Channel 10), first joining that station in In 2015, Joe Rose, Bob Griese and, Jimmy Cefalo return to the Dolphins’ radio team.
October of 1992 as the host of “Sports Monday.” Since then he became the sports anchor for Local 10 News Monday through Friday and anchored the
station’s popular “Sports Jam Live,” which aired on Sunday nights.
Prior to his broadcasting career, Cefalo played seven seasons with the Dolphins (1978-84) as a wide receiver, and finished with 93 catches for 1,739
yards and 13 touchdowns. His best season came in 1981, when he caught 29 passes for 631 yards (21.8 yards per catch) and three touchdowns. He also
was a member of two Dolphins Super Bowl teams, and in Super Bowl XVII against the Washington Redskins, he caught a 76-yard touchdown pass from
David Woodley, which at the time was the second-longest reception in Super Bowl history. Cefalo originally joined the Dolphins as a third-round draft
choice in 1978 following a stellar collegiate career at Penn State.
Joe Rose again joins Cefalo on the team’s radio broadcasts, and like Cefalo, he built a broadcast career after his playing days ended. He is in his 10th
season as a Dolphins radio analyst. In past years he has hosted “The Coaches Show” on WTVJ-TV (Channel 6), having joined the station in 1992, and
was featured on the station’s successful “Sunday Sports Final” as well before retiring from television work in 2015. Rose is well known locally for his
popular 6-10 a.m. weekday show on WQAM.
Rose was a Dolphins tight end from 1980-85, and in that time caught 112 passes for 1,493 yards and 13 touchdowns. He had his best year in 1983,
when he had 29 catches for 345 yards and three touchdowns. He is best known for catching Dan Marino’s first regular season touchdown pass, a sixyard reception on September 19, 1983 in Los Angeles versus the Raiders. Rose originally was a seventh-round draft pick of the Dolphins in 1980 after
playing at the University of California.
Joining Rose and Cefalo in the booth for the regular season is former Dolphins great and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Bob Griese, who is in his
fifth year as a member of Miami’s radio team after a long tenure on ABC and ESPN’s broadcast teams for college football.
Griese led the Dolphins from 1967-80 where his No. 12 jersey became the first in the franchise’s history to be retired, on May 6, 1982. In 1990, he was
also voted the quarterback on the Dolphins’ Silver Anniversary all-time team and was enshrined on the Dolphins Honor Roll at Sun Life Stadium. He
also was a charter inductee in the Dolphins’ Walk of Fame in 2011. Including playoffs, he had a .681 winning percentage (88-41-1) and was a consensus
All-Pro quarterback in 1971 and 1977, while appearing in six Pro Bowls. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1990.
In July 2015, the Dolphins announced a multi-year deal with 1210 ESPN Deportes in Miami to be the Spanish language flagship station of the Miami
Dolphins. 1210 ESPN Deportes (WNMA-1210 AM) and the Miami Dolphins Spanish Radio Network broadcast every Dolphins game. This season marks
the 34th consecutive year that Dolphins games will be broadcast in Spanish.
