History
David Mason Design was established by the present chairman, David Cowan, in London in 1962.
Today the company is run from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, by his two sons Nicholas and Richard.
David Mason Design has long been a successful supplier of award winning acrylic and wood pepper
and salt mills - David Cowan designed the world’s first clear acrylic pepper mill in 1975 for his previous
company, Cole and Mason.
We believe our strength lies in recognising that teamwork is essential. The majority of our staff are
long-term employees and all play a vital role in our on-going success. A combination of market
knowledge (both of UK and export markets) comes in part from competitor analysis; understanding
and working closely with our customers; regular visits to trade fairs and consumer exhibitions; and
ultimately - our instincts! The company exhibits at major trade exhibitions in Birmingham, London,
Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Paris.
We offer new solutions, distinctive packaging and fresh designs with product synergy, which are
sourced using high quality materials from approved factories. Our award-winning in-house design
team strive to offer innovative, stylish and most importantly, commercially winning products, while our
sales team aim to provide top quality customer service at every step of the way.

MILLS
David Mason Design has over 50 years experience in the production of
mills. Our expertise in technical innovation, quality and design combine
to bring you classic and contemporary salt and pepper mills.
Screw Knob
Turn the screw knob clockwise to tighten the mechanism and produce
a fine grind, and anti-clockwise to produce a coarse grind. To re-fill the
pepper or salt mill fully unscrew the knob and take off the top. Easy refill.
Materials
At David Mason Design we only use the finest grade materials. The
design, manufacture and production of our mills is tightly controlled to
ensure quality thoughout the process.
Packaging
For our mills we offer new solutions, distinctive packaging and innovative
designs. All designed in the UK.
Mechanism
All our mills incorporate a copyrighted ‘Spring Tension’ system. This helps
in the adjustment of the grinder via the ‘Screw Knob’ for either pepper or
salt depending on what is being used in your mill.
