Sand Dollars and Sense
Southwest Florida Chapter
Spring 2011
Volume 3 Issue 1
Southwest FL IMA Ranks #1 in February!
The Southwest Florida chapter of the IMA ranked number one out of 98
total chapters in February 2011 in the Warner Division (smaller IMA
chapters) in the IMA’s Chapter Standings. That’s incredible especially when
you consider we’re only a year old! Member count, education points,
certification points, and membership points all contributed to that success.
Keep encouraging membership and certification, and if you’re already
certified, keep getting those education credits! Thanks to all members who
contributed to this achievement.

Mission
To empower accountants and financial professionals to become “trusted business advisors” playing a driving role in their
organizations’ business success and advancing their careers.
The Scoop on Recent SWFL Chapter Events
The SWFL Chapter of the IMA has been very busy the last couple of months coordinating and
facilitating quality events, providing members the opportunity to enhance their management
accounting and leadership skills, acquire affordable CPE, and network with their peers in the
accounting and management realm. Two events recently took place, and both were very
favorably received by attendees.
On February 2nd the chapter combined efforts with the Institute of Internal
Auditors and held a fraud seminar, It Takes One to Know One, with presenter Anne
Marchetti, Sarbanes-Oxley expert, and Keynote Speaker Sam Antar, convicted Fraud
felon with Crazy Eddie’s chain of electronic stores. Ms. Marchetti
educated attendees on the importance of a documented Risk
Management Policy containing provisions for risk assessment,
enterprise-wide risk management, financial reporting checks and
balances, and internal controls to help prevent fraud. Mr. Antar
Anne Marchetti
educated attendees on how white collar criminals work to commit
undetected fraud through his review of the Crazy Eddie fraud case in the 1980s.
Sam Antar
On March 9th the chapter coordinated the Business of Baseball meeting to help
business owners learn how to benefit from the area’s two Major League Baseball stadiums.
Twins and Red Sox representatives, along with officials from the Lee County Sports Authority
spoke at the event. Proceeds from the event were shared between Junior Achievement of
Southwest Florida and the SWFL IMA.

AICPA & CIMA Exploring New
Management Accounting Designation
The AICPA and the London-based Chartered
Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) may
form a joint venture to develop and promote a new
global management accounting designation.
Objectives of the joint venture include improving the
profile of management accounting in the US,
advance the science of management accounting
worldwide, and promoting the CPA designation as a
worldwide standard of professional excellence in
accounting. This is subject to approval by both the
CIMA and AICPA, and if approved in May, would
then launch in 2012. (Click for full article.)
