1 year anniversary!
Gervais School District
receives 3rd national
award with help from
Shandel Jump
Shandel Jump, Health Opportunity
Afterschool Program (HOAP) Site
Coordinator at the Gervais School
District was presented with her third
Alliance for a Healthier
Generation award!
Jump has worked for the Gervais
School District for 6 years, and has
worked and continues to create
healthier, more physically fit
schools.
In 2009, Jump and her Staff
Wellness Committee worked with
Clare Columbus and her staff in
updating cafeteria menu items at
Gervais High School by offering
healthier food options such as
more fruits and vegetables, more
wheat and whole grains. In addition, they only offer water and diet
soda in vending machines, as well
Jump introduced fitness workouts
into the afterschool program. Six
months later she received a Bronze
Alliance for a Healthier Generation
award in New York from the 42nd
Former President Clinton.
Jump added more physical
activity options to the high school
afterschool program and taught
students how to cook healthier
versions of their favorite foods, such
as zucchini cookies and pumpkin
cakes.
The students learned how to
harvest fruits and vegetables from
the community garden and
incorporate them into their every
day lives. In 2012, she received a
Silver Alliance for a Healthier
Generation award, in Little Rock,
Arkansas from Former President
Clinton.
On September 30th, Jump received
her 3rd Alliance for a Healthier
Generation Award and her 2nd
Silver, presented by Former
President Clinton, in Little Rock,
Arkansas. Jump, PE teacher Miller
and her students encouraged all of
the middle school students and
staff to sign a pledge to be active
for 60 minutes every day.
