All fathers, grandpas, uncles, brothers and more are invited to our annual

5th grade Gator football team at their first game of the season against University Elementary
5th grade cheerleaders at Cheer Camp
Gator sports are
in full swing
The A.C. Steere 5th grade football team
was victorious in their first game against
University Elementary on September 22.
Our 3rd and 4th grade “Gator Girls”
have also been hard at work. The girls had a
wonderful first cheer clinic on September 8.
A special thanks goes to the Captain Shreve
cheerleaders who took time on their Saturday to come teach the girls some new cheers.
Alanna Koepnick and Jennifer Dunlop are
the sponsors for this pep-squad, who practice every Thursday after school and cheer
for the 4th grade football team on Saturdays.
A big thanks goes out to the parents
who sponsor all of our sports teams. Tracie
Brown, Stephanie Nash, and Andrea Evans
4th grade Gator Girls at cheer clinic
work together to sponsor the 5th grade
cheerleaders. Our two football teams participate through the YMCA and are sponsored
by Bill Smith for 4th grade, and Sean Rainer
for the 5th graders.
You can support the dedicated players
and sponsors, and cheer on our Gators at
our upcoming games this Saturday, October
6, in the North Desoto Stadium located at
Hwy 171 S. in Stonewall. The 5th graders
play Riverside-Thompson at 9:00 a.m., followed by the 4th graders opposing FairfieldGrieder at 10:15 a.m. Best of luck to both
teams, cheerleaders, pep-squad and all of the
Gator coaches as they prepare for Saturday’s
matches!

A MESSAGE FROM PTA CO-PRESIDENT
Sommer Anderson-Picou
WOW, what a
wonderful few weeks
it has been in Gator
Land! We enjoyed
having our Gator
Grandparents on
campus with us last
month, and we are
Anderson-Picou
looking forward to
seeing all of our Gator Dads on campus
on the 5th. The 4th grade Gators had a
wonderful program, and it was great getting to enjoy refreshments and everyone’s
company after.
We would like to invite everyone to
our 2012-2013 Fall Carnival on Saturday,
October 27 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. We will
have numerous games, inflatables, face
painting, a Sweet Treat Stop, a door prize
drawing, and much more. While there is
no admission fee, there are charges for
the games and activities. If you didn’t
get your Carnival T-shirt order in, then
don’t worry! We will also be selling $15
wristbands the day of the Carnival for
anyone who wants unlimited access to all
the games and activities. Door prize and
concession tickets will be on sale soon.
eBriefs are back
The first eBrief of the year was sent out
on Thursday, September 28. Don’t miss out
on any important information! If you did
not receive an emailed eBrief on Thursday,
you can easily sign up at www.ACSGators.org using the “E-Brief Sign Up” form
located on the home page.

Meet Gary the Gator
Our adorable friend, Gary, has made his
home on the newly improved AC Steere
PTA website, which launched in September.
If you haven’t already stopped by to meet
him, you really should. Our website will
now be very frequently updated with all
of the latest news and information parents
need to know. We encourage you to use it
as a reference tool and hope that a streamlined and easy-to-follow website will make
it easier than ever for every parent to be as
involved as they would like.
Heritage Foundation to
provide big-ticket items
your donation in the school office. While
this is a completely separate organization,
the PTA is excited to have the Heritage
Foundation available as another option for
parents to make donations directly to the
school. The foundation’s non-profit status
has been applied for, and donations should
be considered tax-deductible as soon as that
becomes official.
Spirit Day Winners
Winners for the September Spirit Day
are Mrs. Thomas & Mrs. Robinson, Mrs.
Sample, and Mrs. Montgomery. Congratulations to those wonderful classes and good
luck everyone for the upcoming Spirit Day
on Friday, October 5.
A.C. Steere benefits from two
PTA checks
On September 27 the PTA wrote out
two checks to AC Steere. One was in
the amount of $3600 to go directly to the
teachers to reimburse them for classroom
supplies previously purchased out of pocket.
The other was for $2000, and was given to
the school to go towards the purchase of
textbooks. Thanks to all of the parents and
volunteers who work so hard to raise funds
for our awesome school!

Small contributions can add
up to big money
Our goal for Box Tops for Education this
year is $2900! The first round of Box Tops
are due by October 25. If you need another
collection sheet, please let your teacher
know.
Starting next month we will also start collecting Tyson Project A+ labels. The school
earns 24 cents per label! More information
will be going home over the next few weeks.
In addition to collecting labels, we are
also collecting used ink cartridges and old
cell phones to recycle. Starting October 15
www.acsgators.org
there will be a collection box at the school
for drop offs.
Thanks to everyone for your participation!
When we all contribute A.C. Steere really
benefits. For more information on any of
our passive fundraising efforts, contact Cat
Owens at [email protected].
Fall fundraising efforts were
outstanding
Our first fundraiser was a huge success
with $6,000 raised! Top sellers were William Spell-5th, Emma Robinson Pre-K,
Addison Morvent 1st, Makia Moore 2nd,
Amelia Clark 3rd, and Casten Calk K. Each
student sold more than 20 items! Orders
will be delivered on Thursday, October 11.
Parents will need to arrange for pick-up of
large orders after school. If not items will be
sent home with the student.
Spirit shirt sales were so successful, that
we are completely sold out of most sizes,
and have placed a re-order to fill all outstanding shirt sales.
Our next fundraiser, titled “Entertain
your Heart and Home” will begin November 14. Items include cookies, candies, soup
and dip mixes, spices, summer sausage and
cheese spreads. All are perfect gift ideas for
Christmas.
Be on the lookout later in October for a
preview of our Winter Gator Gear items.
These will be pre-sold only and include long
sleeve tee-shirts, sweatshirts, and zippered
hoodies.
A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL
Kim Derrick
School is off to
a great start. I can’t
believe that we are
more than half way
into the first nine
weeks. I want to
thank the PTA for all
their hard work this
year. Through their
Derrick
efforts and money
the school was able to purchase nine
desktop computers and two laptops for
teacher and student use. I also would like
to thank Eagle Scout Fuhrman for the
additional benches at the school. A BIG
congratulation goes out to Sarah Ezell,
5th grade teacher. Her grant “Tech Savvy
Please” was funded by Sonic’s Limeade
for Learning in the amount of $1,047.00.
I have just a few reminders for parents.
School starts at 7:55 am this year. If your
child is not here by that time they are
missing valuable instruction! Remember,
anytime you are on campus, please check
in at the office first. Children should not
be on campus before 7:40 am and they
must be picked up by 3:00 pm each day.
If students arrive after 8:05 am parents
need to come to the office and sign
them in.
I am looking forward to another great
year!
