conference at the Residenza La Rocca ,
Valmadrera (LC). Among the key speakers
was Mrs. Hind Ali Bin Ali, Partner and
Member of the Board, Ali Bin Ali Group of
Qatar. The conference, held under the
theme of “Doing Business In Qatar:
Opportunities And Prospects Not To Be
Missed,” was especially designed for
entrepreneurs and professional business
people, who are interested in pursuing
successful business ventures between
Qatar and Italy.
Having Mrs. Hind Ali Bin Ali on board as

one of the speakers greatly enhanced the
conference, since she personally
represented one of Qatar’s oldest and bestknown conglomerates, the Ali Bin Ali
Group. Hailing as a member of the Ali Bin
Ali Group’s founding family and as one of
Qatar’s successful woman entrepreneurs
Mrs. Ali Bin Ali brought a wealth of
experience to the table. In her presentation
she shared an overview of Qatar as well as
the Ali Bin Ali Group, while touching on the
phenomenal growth that has taken place
in the country and the business landscape
in recent years upon which Qatar has
continued to strengthen its economic
power and its investment capacity with
outstanding results in different sectors. Mrs.
Ali Bin Ali was joined by Mr. Nabil Chamas,
Vice President and General Counsel, Ali Bin
Ali Group, who made a separate
presentation focused on the transformation
between Qatar’s past and present;
juxtaposing it with the parallel growth and
expansion of the Ali Bin Ali Group.
Among the other distinguished speakers
were Giacomo Corno, Chairman of CIS, who
offered a glimpse of Qatar National Vision
2012-2030 and Vittorio Molteni, an Italian
Architect and Project Manager who shared
his experience of doing Business in Qatar.
The conference was attended by close to
100 Business Women and Men from Italy
and allowed for an interactive question and
answer session where participants had the
opportunity to clarify matters related to
future openings.
As such the “Doing Business In Qatar” business conference was as timely as it
was filled with enormous potential and

On the 12th July 2012 Ali Bin Ali Medical Division’s
Finance team met at the Qatar Bowling Center. The
occasion was an opportunity to welcome on board
three new staff members and cement the bonds
within the team. The bowling evening went on from
6.30-8.00 pm and was followed by dinner.
Among those present were John Cyriac, Farook
Sanoordeen, Shaleh MD. Mridha, Manij Lakhey,
Mohamed Sajath, Gourav Poudyal & Ganesh P.K. Two
teams were formed for the evening and enjoyed stiff
competition. Shaleh was a discovery, showing signs of
brilliance in his hooks, curves and straight hits getting
the 10 pins down on several occasions. The clear
winner of the evening wasn’t a team but the spirit of
bonding that prevailed.

TOURNAMENT 2012

On the 3rd of November 2012 at 7 p.m. the Qatar Bowling Centre came
alive with the Ali Bin Ali Bowling Tournament. This year the Consumer
Agencies Team emerged as Bowling Champions and carried off honours.
The 6th ABA Group Tournament 2012 was made up of various teams who
contested keenly. Each Team earned points on their strategies with a
points system based on elimination rounds. The teams were cut down
from 40 to the Top 20 teams and once again to the Top 5 teams until two
teams remained and were declared as the Champion and 1st place team
of the Bowling Season 6th Tournament 2012. The Champion team
comprised of Joel Faustorilla, Rasheed Hassan Mohideen, Richard Oraña,
Ibrahim Khalil and Michael De Leon. The 1st place was won by Srikanthan
Praveen, Ms. Arcely Faustorilla, Dadimuni De Silva, Sharl Dinesh Fernando
and Hassan Riyas.
Ali Bin Ali Group congratulates all participants for their commitment, team
work and good sporting spirit. The event was attended by Mr. Mohammed

blood donation campaign
Ali Bin Ali's FMCG Division held a community
initiative as part of its “People for Tomorrow“
Programme. On the 18th of November 2012 over
150 employees of Ali Bin Ali's FMCG came together
representing Ai Bin Ali and Partners, International
Agencies, Logistics and PCP joining hands for a
valuable blood donation drive.
The day that was set apart was divided into 3
organized time slots giving staff of the above
mentioned units an opportunity to show a spirit of
community and come together to donate much
needed blood to support the national blood
campaign. We applaud the enthusiasm of those
who came together to give willingly to this valued
cause. The FMCG Division's Blood Donation
Campaign was organized by the Ali Bin Ali FMCG
social Activity Club. The club has confirmed that
they plan to organize a number of family cantered
events in near future.

Division launches a “Monthly
Breakfast Meeting”

The Dot is happy to report that on the 17th of January 2013 the
training room of International Agencies transformed into a hive
of activity. International agencies MARS division took the
initiative to conduct a monthly breakfast meeting, which brings
together its entire sales & merchandising team for a channel
performance review & for sharing objectives. The event was set
up to be an encouraging & motivating gathering for the
employees of the division. At the gathering an “Employee of
the Month” recognition scheme was also launched, wherein
the salesman & merchandisers who have demonstrated
outstanding performance in selected core areas are rewarded
on a monthly basis. These breakfast meeting are set to
continue since the forum provides an opportunity for all the
employees to network & communicate & also acts as a platform
for the division to introduce the new comers & bid farewells.
The entire team comprising the Division Manager Mr. Issam
Assi, Channel Managers and the sales team including the
merchandisers were present at the inaugural meeting. Mr. Viji

Ali Bin Ali 6th Olympic Day
A Grand Success!
Ali Bin Ali Group held its 6th Annual Olympic
day on the 12th February 2013. The activities
began at Al Arabi Stadium Doha, which came
alive with multiple festivities. The event began
at 2.00 p.m and lasted through to 9.00 at night.
The gathering, planned in conjunction with
Qatar’s National Sports Day, reaffirmed the Ali
Bin Ali Group’s commitment to uphold sports as
an integral part of healthy living, for all its
employees.

In addition to the above a raffle draw was held

The afternoon’s proceedings were launched by
Mr. Iftekhar Ahmed – ABA Group CFO who

Ali who encouraged those present by
commenting that the Group is very pleased to
celebrate the spirit of Qatar’s National Sports
Day by hosting our own Group Olympic Day. He
also congratulated the staff for their
participation and encouraged them to integrate

the Olympic Day included staff from all
divisions along with the management.
The proceedings began on a happy and
rewarding note. While Early Bird prizes were
available to those who arrived first, the
successfully planned event included marathon
running, track and field events, community
games and many other interactive games,
which drew wide participation from a crowd of
over 1500 people. A special fancy dress
contest was also held, much to the delight of
the children gathered. The winners of the fancy

Doha Exhibition Center from the 25th of
February until the 3rd of March 2013 with

This year's event was attended by over
60,000 local, regional and international
visitors. The seven day exhibition has now
become a much looked forward to event
on the luxury calendar of Qatar. Organized
by Qatar Tourism Authority, the exhibition

Cricket Tournament. An all day

teams. Those at the venue enjoyed

in Arab Water Day
As a responsible consumer and a
supporter of earth's resources Digitek
was happy to join Kahramaa and
support its Tarsheed campaign.
Tarsheed is a national campaign
launched by Kahramaa for
conservation and efficient use of
water and electricity. The campaign
runs under the banner to "Keep Qatar
Pulsing. Consume Wisely." As part of
the activities of Tarsheed, Arab water
day was held on 3rd March 2013 and
our Digitek participated in the

On the 8th March 2013 Sealine Beach Resort
was transformed into a hive of activity with the
entire Ali Bin Ali Finance Community gathering
at the location from 7.30am to 5pm to
celebrate their Annual Get together. With over
300 employees and their families gathering for
the occasion the day was planned
with the idea of giving them
maximum opportunity to interact and
enjoy a fun filled day.
With work taking priority for most of
the year the families of the Finance
team really enjoyed the opportunity
given to spend time with each other.
The event included games, activities,
fun challenges with lot of
entertainment thrown in for all
members of the family.
The interaction times were enhanced by some
engaging, creatively organized team building
exercises. The 2013 ABA Finance & Audit
Awards were officially launched by the Group
CFO with related teams being introduced. The
day ended on a highly positive note with the
CFO affirming the experience.

been continuing over the recent
months. We are herewith

Mourad to share an afternoon of
fellowship and a healthy
exchange of ideas.

On the 23rd March 2013, 6:00-11:00 PM the
Qatar National Convention Centre was all
abuzz with Ali Bin Ali Group’s FMCG Division
holding its Annual Employee Gathering. With
our FMCG Division encompassing more than a
few individual companies, the gathering saw
staff and families from ABAP, LOGISTICS, IA,
PCP, and QQP all come together as one. This
Get Together marked the 2nd such event for
the FMCG team, with the first gathering
having taken place in 2010. The gathering
exceeded 900 people. Senior level
representatives from the Head Office were
among those who were
present along with FMCG
Employees and their
families.
The event was very well
organised and most of the
action took place in 2 halls
namely Main hall and
Kids Zone. The evening’s
programme was dotted by
cultural events and other
forms of entertainment.
Different members of staff
also participated in various
cultural events, which formed part of the talent show
scheduled for the night. The show covered Solo
Singing, Skits, Hip Hop Dance routines etc, all done by
the employees.
In a special segment of the proceedings the launching
of a program “People for tomorrow” took place and it
was handled by Mr. Nabil Mourad. The People for
Tomorrow project is a unique FMCG initiative focused on
People Development, Motivation, Retention of
employees thereby building future leaders who are
ready to keep up with the fast paced changes that will
come in the near future. In another segment
employees who completed more than 15 years in Ali
Bin Ali Group were honoured by a bestowing of awards.
Attending employees received souvenirs as mementos.
The program wrapped up with a grand raffle draw
which gave winners a chance to walk away with X Box,
Play Station, Home Center Vouchers, Portable DVD
Players, Kitchen Appliances and many other gifts.

So we are talking about a
development objective that
spreads through 10 different
layers. In FMCG we are talking
about 15 job categories.
How many people will be
reached by the programme?
The total staff of the FMCG is 800
people. This number grows around
10% every year and I can say
without hesitation the program
will reach every single one of
them.

and reach everyone in the
organization. In addition to that
we are going to develop a set of
tools to be able to evaluate people
properly and have feedback on
how people are progressing. Step
number four is which will run in
parallel to all steps is the right
compensation, benefits,
motivation, people retention

people with different needs. We
will have dedicated training
programs for every job category.
So can we can tell every
single FMCG employee that
their turn will come?
Yes we can do that 100%. Its not
like any project that is merely on
paper. The entire senior
management team of FMCG is all
involved in this programme. We
have a responsibility because we know this will be rolled out to
the rest of the Group. So as
pioneers we have to make sure
that it works effectively.
Why now?
Tell us about FMCG's latest
initiative the "People For
Tomorrow" Programme. How
was it born?
At FMCG when we say tomorrow,
we are looking into the future. We
consider tomorrow as 10 years
from now. Like say 2022. So we
brain stormed at an offsite
meeting held at The Torch hotel 50 FMCG managers were there. At
that gathering we were all in
agreement that - business
environment will change in 10
years. We will be called to do
business differently with our
clients and principals - the trade,
support functions with internal
operations will change. In fact
even our customers will change.
Technology will be different. So in
this new environment, we faced
the fact that we will need people
with a different set of skills and
competencies. We accepted and
admitted that the people of today
will likely be unable to cope. That
was our starting point. We had a
strong desire that said "If the
environment changes, let's make
sure the people we have will also
be able to adapt, and become
effective in handling that new
environment. We want to make
sure that our people are ready for
tomorrow" That's how our People
for Tomorrow program was born.
What are the objectives
behind it?
The beauty of the objectives lies in
the fact that this program is not
about a new structure or about
new policies or procedures. This
program is about our people. Our
objective is developing our people.
Making them equipped, capable
and ready for tomorrow. Investing
in our people - without borders,
"Business environment will change in
10 years... We will need people with a
different set of skills & competencies...
We want to make sure that our people
are ready for tomorrow"
The process will start with an
assessment. That's a step where
our people's current competencies
and capabilities will be assessed.
That step is already in progress.
We have assigned one GM to
handle each step of our four step
process. We have developed the
tools to assess every employee by
job category. So every job has its
own set of skills and
competencies. At this stage we
will also assess the needs our
employees have. Simultaneously
we will develop a picture where
each employee will be placed on a
sort of a format that will show
where our 800 people are. At
what level are they performing?
This placement will easily show us
the top performers and poor
performers. And all the people in
between.
Second step is identifying
training needs. These training
needs will have one goal: to equip
the employee to advance. The top
performers will also be given more
of a chance to progress. It’s a
process of placing the right people
at the right position and highlight
the extremely poor performers. So
that's step two. Once we have
done that we go into learning
and development which is a
mega project. This is to train and
develop the 800. The training can
and talent acquisition. At the
highest we have a program called
the Star programme which
identifies the stars on board who
will truly become the leaders of
tomorrow.
Is there any time limit for
this program?
There are certain parts of the
project which are now in progress
like the people assessments.
Certain parts will finish in 2013.
But as is to be expected some
programs will be ongoing. Like the
training and development aspect.
We cannot say we have trained
and developed all our people. So
training and development is on
going. It is worth mentioning that
the Operating Board has decided
to pilot this programme in FMCG
and after that roll it out to the rest
of the Ali Bin Ali Group.
Will it reach all the
employees?
Yes. I will give an example. Let's
start with an example of junior
people. We have at least 150
merchandisers in FMCG and we
have another 150 van salesmen.
We have special programs for
merchandisers, for training and
development and special programs
for van salesman. We will not put
all the trainees in one room and in

needed certain ground realities to
be in place. Even to start an effort
like this you need the retention of
the right people. We had to be in a

though my idea was there for a
couple of years I had to wait.
What is the message you
would like to give the whole
Group?

very important. We are not there
yet but we want all our employees

Christ the Redeemer Statue

Towering over Rio de Janeiro, atop
the Corcovado mountain, the Christ
Redeemer statue is 125 feet (38 m)
tall, including the pedestal. The
pedestal contains a chapel large
enough for 150 worshipers. The
Christ Redeemer statue was
designed by Heitor da Silva Costa
and carved by French sculptor Paul
Landowski. The Christ Redeemer
statue took five years to construct
and was inaugurated on October 12,
1931. In 2007, the Christ Redeemer

Martin, Bossetti, and Bernabe
Mendez. The falls are part of a
singular practically virgin jungle
ecosystem protected by Argentine

The Amazon Rainforest
The Amazon Rainforest is one of the
most spectacular places on earth and
covers an incredible six million

exotic
animals,
insects and
birds. There is an overwhelming 2.5
million different insect species within
the Amazon jungle, and in one tree
alone, there was recorded to have 50
different species of ant. Butterflies
can be seen flying throughout the
Amazon rain forest, and there are
7500 different species.
Chapada Diamantina
National Park
Known as Chapada Diamantina, this
scenery mountain range runs north
and south through the state of
Bahia,) offers some of the most
amazing landscapes you can find in
the country. Most of the attractions
at the Chapada are the trails to
caves, hills and waterfalls that have
as departure point the city of
Lençóis. Everything in the Chapada
is wonderful, but the waterfalls
deserve special attention. The most
famous is the Cachoeira da Fumaça,
the highest fall in the country,
where the water does not have
sufficient volume to overcome the
drop of 380 meters and the force of
the wind cooperates in transforming
the water into vapour - a real
spectacle
Aquario Natural
The crystalline waters of the
Aquário Natural are the main
attraction of the Bonita Bay
Ecological Reserve. The
diversity of the river´s fauna
and flora makes the tourist
feel literally within an
aquarium. The ideal is to
snorkel down the river, but
there is also the option to
accompany the group on a
support boat. The pool of
the main house is also used to
educate visitors about the use of
mask and snorkel. Besides the
aquarium, the Trail of animals is
another unforgettable attraction of
the reserve, through which animals,
like rheas, alligators, deer, wolves
and anacondas, can be seen.
Equally clear and colorful is a drift
along the nearby Rio Sucuri
(reached by a one-hour hike) where
it’s hard to decide whether to look
down through the blue-green
waters or up at the lush pink and
purple stands of orchids lining the
riverbank.
