To be execulcd the next day, a man by the llHrne of Jose Rizal stands at lhe precipice of death and history. He contenlplates on several decisions that he made in his life, l:hief of which. is his writing of the books Noli Me Tangen~ and El Fitibusterismol the very books that sealed llis conviction for inciting rebellion against the Spanish colonizers. But is he innocent of tilis charge, and in writing his books~ is it true that all he ever really wanted is reform? Or is he a .I.llan who has had enough, who saw a country suffering from hundreds of years rule by QJrJ'upl foreigners hent on perpetuating a culture of ~lbusc, and who decided lo prod his people into fighting for their freedom" This is the central question that ha~ plagued the national hero's legacy until now. PAHlMAKAS; Huling Snndali ng Isang Bayani tries Lo answer this by looking at what RizaJ wrote and how he interacted with some of the last people to sec him alive. In a series of conversations with a newspaper man, priests who . were former mentors, a young boy at the prison cell, several members of his family, and a host of fictional chllracters that he himself created, Rizal comes to terms with his revolutionary destiny, and the historic events that his life and works arc about to set in motion. Emilio Aguinaldo condemned Supremo Andres Bonifacio to die by firing sql:md in the streets of Cavite. Faced with an ignominio1Js end, he recollected the events that have led to his execution. He remembered the day the Katipuneros in Cavite cordially welcomed him. Con~equent events however revealed the feud between the Magdiwang cmd Magdalo fa.ctions. The Magdalos. questioning the Supremo's leadership qualitieg prop()sed to establish a new revolutionary governmcnl that win effectively defeat the enem.ies. But the Magdiwang staunchly defended the supremacy of Bonifacio in Lhe Naie Convention. The political plot of people like Daniel Tirona and Mariano Tdas, nevertheless ensures Bonifacio's defeat in the elections at Tejeros. As expected Emilio Aguinaldo was elected pre::>ldent of the new revolutionary government. Bonifacio was nominated as Director of the Interior> but Daniel Tirana questioned his ability to hold the job by not being a lawjer. Bonifado took this a.s an insult... As a result he declared the election null and void and worsened the animosity between the Magdiwang and· Magdalofactions. Aguinaldo on the other hand, offered c1. position in the new government to Magdiwang lcadE...'t'::> which fmally convinced lhem to abandon the Supremo. BO~1ifacio rctaHated by arresting a h~ttalion of Magdala soldiers. Surprisingly, the new president foiled Bonifado':s attempt to regain power and made his escape to Silang. There. townsfolk upon orders from above refused to feed his army and their families. This inflamed Bonira.cio and ordered the town to be burned. Aguinaldo then arrested him and fonned the triblUlal which found him glJilly of treason. He recalled'the past upon the exhortation of "Death" who has come to help him give signiflcance to this othenvise absurd end.
