In the early 1950’s as a young student, Henri Mastey began experimenting with new ideas
and products in his father’s lab in Paris. While isolating certain ingredients in aluminum foil,

Teinture's Controlled Oxidation System (COS)
Unlike hair dyes that require ammonia, Teinture with AMINORGANIC when mixed with variable volumes
of Mastey Crème Developer provide a Controlled Oxidation System (COS) that gives the stylist total
control over hair color results, while leaving hair looking exceptionally healthy and shiny.
The Teinture controlled oxidation system allows the stylist the ability to use peroxide levels as high as 60
volume to achieve maximum lift when needed without the damage of using a bleach or ammonia based
hair color.
Anti-Oxidants
The antioxidant grapeseed extract, and vitamins in the Teinture formula help you achieve longer lasting
and beautiful looking haircolor.
Why can I use 50 and 60 volume
peroxide with Mastey Teinture?
Because there is no Ammonia! Hair dressers are told that you cannot use peroxide over 30 or 40 volume because
it can irritate the scalp. When you look at the reason for this irritation you realize, it
is really because of how the Peroxide will react with the ammonia that is in the hair
color.
Since there is ZERO AMMONIA in Mastey Teinture, you can use 50 and 60 volume
without fear of scalp irritation or hair damage.
When would I use 50 and 60 Volume peroxide?
You would use 50 and 60 volume peroxide when you are doing high lift color
techniques, or highlighting with high lift colors on natural hair color level 7 and up.
You can also use 50 and 60 volume to lift color without using bleach, or when doing
advanced Mastey Teinture multidimensional color techniques.
A great technique is to use our 11.2 with 60 volume to create multi-dimensional
blonde highlights without using bleach. 11.2 with 60 volume will give you a more
natural looking blonde highlight as opposed to a vivid white bleach highlight.

The Universal Numbering System
Teinture is based on the International color numbering standard. All shades are numbered with a Level and
Primary Tone, and if applicable a Secondary Tone. The Levels and tones are separated by the use of a period (.)

Remaining Pigment is the key that
leads to your desired color outcome
When lightening hair with permanent hair color or lighteners, the first primary color to be removed is blue, this
exposes the red and yellow (warmer) tones. This remaining warm pigment is crucial to hair color because it
determines your color selection when coloring or lifting. The remaining warm pigment changes from level to
level, varying shades of red/brown are seen when lifting from darker levels.

Working with the color wheel you may choose to either
neutralize or enhance the remaining pigment.
To enhance remaining pigment, choose a color by working
around the wheel.
To neutralize the remaining pigment, choose it’s complementary (opposite) color.
Always remember that the remaining pigment has the ability
to override artificial pigmentation.
Example:
If you are lifting a client from a Level 4 to a Level 7, the remaining pigment from lifting will be Orange.
To counteract that orange, you can use a shade that will
have ASH (.1) (BLUE Base).
To enhance that orange, you can use tones that are near orange on the color wheel. You can enhance the Yellow by
using a GOLD (.3) (YELLOW Base) or enhance the RED by
using a RED (.6) (RED Base).

100% Gray Coverage with Mastey Teinture
Black, Brown, Red, and Blonde hair leave remaining pigment when you lift them to higher levels. This remaining
pigment as you learned earlier is very important, when selecting shades to use in your color process. Since
there is no remaining pigment in gray white hair, it is necessary for the colorist to add warmth to the color
mixture by including a percentage of a gold (.3) shade in their color formula. This addition of warmth compensates for the lack of remaining pigment in gray white hair.
First determine the percentage of gray in your clients hair. Less than 50% or More than 50%.

You can extend development time by 10 to 15 minutes without any adverse effects.
Adding Heat:
You may put clients under the dryer with low heat after application for 15+ minutes, then let them cool down
for the rest of the prescribed development time.

Select a shade darker than your target level.
Double the Pigment:
You can add Color Instantané to your color mix to increase the amount of pigment. See Color Instantané

The Patch Test
Under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act,
preliminary skin testing is required before all
applications of oxidizing hair color. It is an
established fact that some people are allergic to
certain foods, drugs, or cosmetics, including haircolor, especially if a person is currently
experiencing some form of skin or scalp disorder.
To ascertain whether a person is sensitive to haircolor, a standard patch test is required prior to
each application of hair color.
With bland soap and water wash an area about
the size of a quarter on the inner fold of the
elbow, or behind either ear, extending partly into
the hair line. Dry by blotting with absorbent
cotton.
Mix 1 capful of Teinture with 1 capful of 20
volume Mastey Crème Developer and blend well.
Use an absorbent cotton tip applicator to apply
the test solution on the previously cleaned area.
Allow test area to dry. Leave uncovered and
undisturbed for 24 hours.
The Strand Test
To ensure correct color selection results, a strand
test is necessary before proceeding with entire
application.
Mix 1 capful of Teinture desired shade with
1 capful of 20 volume peroxide and blend well.
Apply to a few selected strands
Leave on for 40 to 45 minutes
Rinse and towel dry and check color selection.
Note timing and condition of hair after test.
Taking results of strand test into consideration,
proceed with selection and application.
Test area should be examined in 24 hours. If
found negative, then the shade used in the patch
test can be applied immediately.
If at anytime during the test period, any burning,
itching, swelling, irritability or abnormal reaction
is experienced in or around the test area, this
person is considered to be sensitive, and the
preparation should not be applied. If the scalp or
adjacent area shows evidence of any abrasion,
eruption, or if any other abnormal condition
arises, the application should be avoided.
