Election results An election was held on Thursday 2 May for all seats on Hertfordshire County Council and for the Watling ward of Dacorum Borough Council. You can find the results of these elections at www.dacorum.gov.uk/elections Sale of Civic Centre site triggers the town centre of the future Hemel Hempstead has come a step closer to getting a brand new, state-ofthe-art college campus as our plans to help kick-start regeneration in the town continue to move forward. We have now signed a legal agreement to sell the land that Hemel Hempstead Civic Centre sits on, to West Herts College. The sale will mean that Morrisons will be able to move forward with their plans to build both a new supermarket and the new college. And they are now ready to share their detailed plans for the £50m development. The new facilities will mean that West Herts College can continue to offer popular courses for people of all ages, as well as providing more focused courses to meet the essential skills for the jobs of the future and help ensure that the local economy is competitive. Artist’s impression of new college The development is part of plans to build a new public service hub that will bring together a new library, a community meeting space, the Council’s headquarters and offices for a number of local voluntary organisations. We can lend you, Please don’t feed the ducks If you are visiting Hemel Hempstead’s Water Gardens then please don’t feed the ducks and geese. Feeding the birds can cause all sorts of problems for the birds, other wildlife and for the Water Gardens’ surroundings: Poor nutrition Overcrowding Ducks and geese usually eat water plants and natural grains. Bread isn’t a very good alternative to these foods: eating it makes them slow and poorly nourished, and may make them easy targets for predators. Throwing bread attracts more birds, leading to overcrowding. This can make the birds more aggressive, as well as causing damage to the grass on the riverbanks, and potentially spreading disease. Leftover bread may also attract pests, like rats and foxes. Pollution The combination of rotting bread and extra bird mess can cause a build-up of algae in the water, which causes it to smell bad and can be harmful to the fish. www.dacorum.gov.uk/ducks or call 01442 228000 and ask for Clean, Safe and Green.
