Thank you to Deputy Chairman of Governors Mrs Kate Osborne, for arranging bouquets of flowers for Valentine’s Day in aid of our charity of the year, Transform. We hope many of you are lucky enough to receive these beautiful arrangements! We were recently pleased to receive the photograph above from the Fossati family in Italy. Everything is going well for them after their relocation and they write as follows: “We definitely miss you, the fantastic staff and the unique Rydes Hill atmosphere. The kids sometimes ask ‘Why did Week beginning 25th February Tues 26th Swimming Gala at St Teresa’s (F1, HP & MP)—4.15pm Weds 27th Lower & Middle Prep class outing to Alice Holt Outdoor Centre Fri 1st Mar Sat 2nd Mar we leave England? After the dreadful weather at the beginning of term which resulted in two matches and our U10 tournament being cancelled, we finally swung into action with U11 and U10 Netball matches against St Catherine's on the 29th January at Rydes Hill. The U11's were playing fast and skilful opponents and are to be commended for maintaining their determined effort right to the end. The lack of practice due to both the weather and entrance exams contributed to the U11's not getting into their stride quickly enough. By the final quarter, the U11's had narrowed the scoring gap but overall lost 5-16. The U10's played good steady Netball and had bursts of outstanding downcourt passing which resulted in goals. They are all to be commended for their team commitment in both attack and defence and for carrying on despite falls and injuries! They thoroughly deserved their winning result of 10-6. Very well played girls! Thank you to all the parents who provided the team teas and grateful thanks to Mrs Chapman who set up the teas so beautifully in the Hall and then to the spectating parents who had to move it all down to the dining room! Thank you as well to Mr Rob for setting up and taking down the floodlights. Thrinethra performing at the Bhavan Thrinethra took part last weekend in the Founder’s Day performance at Bhavan London, the largest institute for Indian art and culture outside India itself. There she danced with a group of adults in an intricately choreographed, five-minute display of traditional dance technique, in what was a stunning performance. If we are lucky she may be dancing her part again for us at an assembly in the near future, but in the meantime enjoy these stills from the video of the show! Well done, Thrinethra! — Mrs Bell — Mrs V Henry Page 3 Merit Assembly Achievements Congratulations to the following girls on their achievements in Speech & Drama, Ballet, Swimming, Singing and Music: Georgia C Ella C Lottie B Lauren S Scarlet Lucy P Leila M Georgia S Well done also to Isla M for gaining a Distinction in her Grade Two Modern Dance exam! With eight enthusiastic and excited runners, we set off to run on Whitmore Common. Mr Sutcliff headed off with the top group running at a very good pace and Mrs Chapman took the middle group close behind, while Mrs Morris and her group paced themselves. After meeting with the first muddy patch all caution was lost and the girls laughed and squealed their way round the course. I apologise to all parents if they could not recognise their muddy daughters at the end, but we did have so much fun. Hopefully at this rate we will all be fit and ready to run at our next cross-country meet! If you have not signed up for cross-country and would like to give it a try, please fill out the necessary form and come join us on a Friday afternoon from 3:40- 4:45pm. Well done to all the brave girls, you were champions. — Mrs D Morris Page 8 Silver Book House Points 25th January 2013 Week ending 25th January 2013 Excellent Work Sophia S Priya T Josephine T Leonie Anastasia P Zara Sophie C Excellent Conduct Shakthi Gloria Amelia H Maddie M Lola Julia B Anjali T French Girdle Chloe R for excellent spoken and written French Music Award Serra for wonderful work in music lessons Physical Education Award Dixie for excellent gymnastics this week Science Award Thrinethra for excellent research skills Special Girdle Attaining scholarships for senior schools: Abby H, Eve C, Sofia F and Josie M CHILDREN’S SECTION CAMPION 95 GERALD 106 PATRICIA 97 PETER 102 Winner — GERALD 18th January 2013 HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES TO: February CAMPION 174 GERALD 129 PATRICIA 132 PETER 98 2nd Fatoumatta 5th Grace 6th Duha ********* Week ending 18th January 2013 Excellent Work Jackson Rose M Francesca H Lilly D Maria-Luisa Evie C Excellent Conduct Temisha Ellie C Lily S Serra Virginia Thrinethra French Girdle Hajin for super listening and participation Physical Education Award Jackson for excellent overarm throwing in PE Science Award Zara for her wonderful model description of solids, liquids and gases Special Girdle Maddie H for bravery Aurora 7th Priya Winner — CAMPION 14th Lauren K 11th January 2013 CAMPION 80 GERALD 95 16th Francesca H 21st Georgia S 22nd Sophie D PATRICIA 116 PETER 86 23rd Dido 26th Anjali B ********* Week ending 11th January 2013 Excellent Work Lilian Amelia G Daniela Lottie B Olivia H-M Blair Sofia F Excellent Conduct Jiha Abigail L Maude Maisy Andrea Olivia S Lauren K French Girdle Abby H for super oral French and correct use of masculine and feminine Music Award Josephine T for excellent piano practice during the Christmas holidays Physical Education Award Jessica T for beautiful gymnastics skills this week Science Award Olivia H-M for spotting springs! Give us each day a sense of how You would like us to be; so that we may use our lives in a way that pleases You. 27th Lilia
