Michael J. Szwed Legacy Fund
The Michael J. Szwed Legacy
Fund was established in January
2008 to celebrate the life of
Michael Joseph Szwed, known
to most as “Mikey.” The Fund
is held at the Community
Foundation of Collier County.
The goal of the Fund is to
provide Collier County’s youth
the opportunity to excel in both academics and
athletics.
Mikey was well known for his love of the game of
basketball, his passion for life, and his desire and
dedication for self-improvement. Though basketball
was his first love, he enjoyed all types of sports, and
followed them all closely. This Fund will not only be
sponsoring basketball players, but athletes from a
variety of sports as well.

This year, you’re invited to join us for our annual
Michael J. Szwed fundraising event. The event will be
filled with dinner, dancing and silent auction items. It is
a great opportunity to meet others in the community
who want to make a difference.
Your participation and support allows us to continue
our existing programs, explore new opportunities,
and advance the goals of the Michael J. Szwed Legacy
Fund. All proceeds from event and awards ceremony
will go directly towards the Fund and used to renovate
the Greater Naples YMCA Longhouse Cabin and
provide scholarships to St. John Neumann & St. Ann
Catholic schools.

In 2015, the Fund will sponsor a major renovation
for the Naples YMCA Longhouse Cabin that serves
as a staple for camps, school-programs and youth
development. The cabin is in disrepair and needs a
new roof, air conditioning and divided classroom and
storage space. When finished, the cabin will bear
Mikey’s name. The Fund will continue to support
the annual, renewable Michael J. Szwed Athletic
Scholarship at St. John Neumann High School and St.
Ann Catholic grade school for students who excel at
team leadership, academics, and exhibit the same
qualities and ideals Mikey lived by.

Our scholarship recipient for the 2015-2016 school
year at St. John Neumann is Kali Rose. Congratulations
to our 2015 recipient; as well as 2014 recipient
Sabrina Ficarra and 2013 recipient Colton Rose who
both renewed their scholarships for the 2015-2016
school year. We would also like to congratulate our
recent graduates Kenny Doerseln and Jacob Roman.

Legacy Fund has raised over $165,000, allowing us
to continue our existing programs while exploring
new opportunities to serve the youth of Naples and
advance the goals of the Michael J. Szwed Legacy
