● By using in‐network providers, in event of a member’s death, his/her family is eligible for 5 years of continued TeamCare coverage at no cost
Major improvement from the current UPS benefit plan of 6 months of paid family coverage followed by 30 months of COBRA payments
● With family coverage for comparable benefits costing between $20,000 to $25,000 a year in the open market, the estimated value to families
over 5 years is more than $100,000 in savings

Don Mitchell and the 5‐Year Family Protection Plan
• UPS employee and Kansas City Teamster with health benefits through TeamCare. Started out part‐time and became full‐time in early 2006. Married with two young children.
• September 2012: Don diagnosed with Leukemia • Medical bills totaled more than $2 million dollars,
including charges for a Stem Cell Transplant
• Don passed away in January 2013
• With the TeamCare Family Protection, Don’s wife and
children have 5 years of free coverage at the same
level of benefits they had while he was working.
