fence-enclosed backyard and pool, offering pretty views from almost every room.
A self-described “bargain hunter” Sandra, Retail Regional Vice-President for
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, makes
a point of never paying retail. She decorated her home’s interiors with a diverse
mix of décor items from Z-gallerie and
Horchow interspersed with treasured
antiques and collectibles. “I’m an artsy
craft person,” Sandra explains. She glams
up pretty lamps with eyelash trim and
uses websites such as mirrormate.com to
give plain bathroom mirrors a facelift.
“The kit comes in a box and it’s inexpensive,” Sandra says. The elegant mirrors are
created for a fraction of the cost of having
them custom finished. Two stained glass
windows that she designed offer burst
of color; a 150-year-old chair stylishly
upholstered in a black and white fabric in
Sandra’s office adds charm.

Sunlight drenches the one-story home
of Sandra and Tim Hayes, proving that
beauty and function can coexist perfectly. The couple moved to Frisco from
California 10 years ago and chose their
home not only for the convenience of two
nearby airports, but also for the flow of
the floor plan. Located in The Villas of
One issue of decorating that Sandra
turned over to an expert was painting
the walls. “When we moved in almost
every room in the house was white. Paint
scares me,” Sandra admits. Enter, Diana
Hudson, whom Sandra describes as an
artist. “Diana used a special roller to
make the paint look like it’s dripping,”
Sandra says of the striking walls in the
dining room. Interior arches became
dramatic when Diana created stucco
stencils in a fleur-de-lis pattern; she
painted the newly remodeled island
in the kitchen in a distressed black
providing a dramatic focal point.
A wide hallway Sandra jokingly calls “the
runway” spans the length of the house
from the front double doors to the master bedroom providing easy access to the
entire home. The media room has been
handsomely turned into a study for Tim,
the owner of The Dive Bar and Grill in
Frisco. A wall of bookshelves provides a
suitable space for photographs and special

unsightly printers and other electronics. A second adjacent office belongs
to Sandra and is decorated attractively
with a standing bust form she acquired
from Cracker Barrel, resplendent in one
of Sandra’s own dresses. In the master
bathroom, a jewelry armoire fronted by a
full length mirror by Hooker opens to a
myriad collection of necklaces, earrings
and lots of sparkly items.
Two guest bedrooms at the front of the
house accommodate three grown children
and 7 grandchildren when they visit from
Atlanta. “This house is very functional,”
Sandra says. “We love the openness. We
use every room in the house.”

Texas Dream Cruise
June 29th, FC Dallas Stadium
By Thomas Jones

Rick and Rob in front of FC Dallas Stadium
comes all classics, currents, coupes, convertibles and customs. If it has wheels,
it’s time to DUST IT OFF . . . and
SHOW IT OFF!!!
Members of the Texas Dream Cruise team
Starwood resident Rick Fletcher and
partner Rob Mashigian both have had
an affinity for cars from an early age.
Rob initially was inspired to organize a
large car show event in Frisco when he
saw how everyone’s heads would turn
whenever they’d see a classic or exotic
car on the road. The thought of organizing an event like Detroit’s Woodward
Dream Cruise or Reno’s Hot August
Nights became an obsession. Rick
and Rob started to plan the first Texas
Dream Cruise back in 2011. Within a
week of deciding to move forward with
the idea, they had a breakfast meeting
with Mayor Maso. A week later, they
went before the city’s event committee
and the Texas Dream Cruise became a
reality. Other Starwood residents serving on the Texas Dream cruise volunteer team include John Keating, Mike
Simpson, Denise and Dave Stana, Janey
Fletcher, Leslie Benware, Ashley Winkler and me, Thomas Jones.
The Texas Dream Cruise is gearing up to
become the largest one-day car show and
cruise event held annually in the southwest. Inspired by several of the larger
nonprofit car shows held in other states,
it debuts on Saturday June 29, 2013 with
its distinctive southwestern flair is being
held at FC Dallas Stadium along with a
marked cruise route through the nearby
streets of Frisco. It will showcase several
thousand cars and host tens of thousands
of interested spectators. This event wel-
This event is designed to meet the needs
of four groups of car enthusiasts: First,
it is an annual "meetup" for hundreds of
car clubs from Texas and the surrounding states. Second, it’s an opportunity for
the individual car enthusiast who may not
belong to a car club to display and drive
that unused car stored in the garage. Third,
it’s a free fun family event for car lovers
to "see and hear" these amazing cars. And
finally, it’s a charitable event to provide
needed funds for the Boys and Girls Club
and the North Texas Military Association.
This will truly be an inclusive event. You
are welcome whether you belong to a car
club or not – and regardless of whether
your car is a pristine beauty, a daily driver
showing some "wear and tear", or a work
in progress. Cars of all varieties will be
grouped by class in the many parking
lots surrounding FC Dallas Stadium.
(Or a car club may decide to reserve a
contiguous display area for their mixed
class members.) A $20 fee by April 30th
will ensure a reserved exhibitor's parking space plus an inaugural participant's
plaque. And the general public can park
for free and wander through our lots (no
admission fee), listen to our band "The
Rumble Kings," or sit in lawn chairs or
on blankets along the cruise route. It's
one thing to view a parked collector's car
– it's a whole other experience to "see and
hear" a cool car drive by!
Rick Fletcher has been an active volunteer in the community serving on many
charitable boards including serving as the
chair of the Frisco downtown advisory
board, the Frisco Planning and Zoning
commissioner, and as a Heritage board
member – where he is spearheading a
project to build a replica of the city's
1912 jail. With Rick actively involved in
organizing the Texas Dream Cruise and
David Stana of Silver Star Picture serving as its official photographer and image
partner, the event will be a success and
one not to miss. So mark June 29th on
your calendar! I’ll see you there.

to share, please contact Lisa Neubert for
a copy of the simple form to complete at

Please share your good news and give your
neighbors a chance to celebrate with you
when Milestones occur in your household. Be sure to plan ahead! To meet our
editorial deadline, each Milestone should
be submitted no later than the 25th of the
month two months before the announcement is to run (e.g. April 25 deadline for
the June magazine). Of course, good news
is still good news after a couple of months
– but the earlier you submit your Milestone, the sooner it can be celebrated!
Thanks for sharing!
Each month up to 30 residents are featured in the Starwood
Magazine. Yards, homes and pets are also highlighted. We are
frequently contacted by families wanting extra copies of their
special issue. We have installed a collection bin for the magazines near the reception desk in the Community Center. Please
bring your unwanted copies of past issues and we will get them
into the hands of those who want them.
Thanks for your help!

First, Logan interviewed Luke:
the laundry, walk my dog Bailey, and take out the trash.
What have you done that you are most proud about in your
live? I was very proud when I got fourth place in my age group
in a triathlon.
If you could do whatever you wanted today, what would you
do? I would go snow skiing!
If you grew up to become famous and successful, what would
you want it to be for? I would want to be a famous architect and
to have built a really cool mansion!
If you could have a magical power, what power would you
have? I would want to have super speed!
If you had the choice to stop going to school, would you? What
are your favorite and least favorite subjects? No. Even though
school can be boring, it helps me learn. I don’t really like social
studies, and my favorite subject is math!
If you could live in a boat or a tree house, what would you
choose? I would want to live in a tree house!
If you could invent a new holiday, what would it be called and
how would you celebrate it? I would make a holiday called the
Santa Games! People would dress up in Santa Claus costumes
and compete in events such as gift wrapping, chimney climbing,
and snowball fights!
Then Luke interviewed Logan:
If you could do whatever you wanted today, what would you
do? I would get an iPad, go to an amusement park, and then
have a sleepover with all of my friends!
You can have one food, and one food only, next week. What
food would you choose? Cookie cake covered in icing!
If you had the choice to stop going to school, would you? What
are your favorite and least favorite subjects? No. I see all of my
friends at school. I don’t like reading and writing, but I like science!
Luke & Logan
Has something ever happened to you while you were riding a
bike? If so, explain. I was standing on the back of a bike while
Luke, Logan and their dog, Bailey
my friend pedaled, and I fell off of it on a bump. I hit the concrete face first and got a black eye!
What are your favorite summer’s day activities? I love to
swim and go tubing on our boat!

Mother’s Day Peppered Eggs Benedict
Submitted by Tracy Rushwin
Photos by Tracy Rushwin and Lauren Douglas
Abbie, Gracie and Christopher smile at the camera after finishing breakfast for Mom.
Abbie prepares the toasted English muffin.
Ingredients:
Eggs Benedict
While Star Ridge resident Tracy Rushwin loves
to cook for her family, Mother’s Day is the
special day when the family cooks for her!
Husband, Chris, and children Grace, Abbie, and Christopher, make quite a team in the kitchen as they prepare Eggs
Benedict for Mom. But this isn’t your typical Eggs Benedict.
Crispy-edged fried eggs replace the old poached standby as
Chris uses good extra-virgin olive oil – just the way his mother
taught him! Canadian bacon is replaced by using thick-cut
peppered bacon, and freshly chopped tarragon is an addition
of a uniquely flavored herb that makes this Eggs Benedict
have a distinct finish!
“No words can describe the perfection of Dad’s Eggs Benedict,”
say the girls. But actions speak louder than words – especially
with plates that are perfectly polished clean, ready for round
two, and accompanied by four big grins that say, “I love you too!”
“Eggs Benedict is one of those dishes that is simply always a
favorite,” says Tracy. “With this recipe you make a little mess,
or should I say a BIG mess, but it’s all worth it when you
make the first cut into that runny egg yolk. Delish!” Here’s
wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day!
• 1 lb. thick cut peppered bacon (shop at
Central Market or use Boars Head)
• ½ cup sour cream
• ½ cup good mayonnaise (Hellmann’s)
• 1 tsp. yellow mustard
• 2 tsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice
• Pinch of garlic salt
• Dash of tarragon vinegar (optional)
and/or 1 tsp. freshly chopped tarragon
• 6 eggs
• 3 English Muffins (halved)
• 3 Tbsp. butter
• Sea salt/Pepper
• Good extra virgin olive oil
• Chopped chives
Directions:
1 TO MAKE THE BACON: Prepare
bacon to desired consistency using a cast
iron skillet. Place prepared bacon on
paper towel-lined plate and set aside.
2 TO MAKE THE HOLLANDAISE
SAUCE: Mix sour cream, mayonnaise,
yellow mustard, lemon juice, garlic
salt, and tarragon/tarragon vinegar
in a small saucepan on medium-low
heat. Make sure not to heat too high
because the sauce can separate. Once
warmed, turn off heat.
3 TO MAKE THE EGGS: Heat a
small frying pan with enough oil to
cover the bottom by rolling it around.
Be prepared to make a mess! (At least
that’s what Chris does). Fry two eggs
at a time side-by-side and generously
give them a sprinkling dose of fresh
ground sea salt and pepper. The eggs
will get nice and crispy on the edges
and the center will stay wiggly. If it is
too soft for you in the middle, throw a
lid on the pan for half a minute or so.
4 Meanwhile, toast the English muffins
and have them ready for the freshly
fried eggs. Assemble the English muffins with a spread of butter and layered
peppered bacon. Gently slide the egg
on top (try not to let the yolk break).
Gently spoon the hollandaise sauce
on top and sprinkle with the chopped
chives or tarragon.

with your Starwood neighbors? Then email Lauren
Douglas at: [email protected].
