ATTENTION ALL BOATERS:
WARNING AT THE SPILLWAY
The mouth of the spillway is very large. When boating in
the area of the new spillway be aware of the warning
buoys and do not go past them. You cannot see from
your craft, but there are large rocks at the entrance to the
spillway. Entering this area is hazardous and is prohibited

The Papoose
Paddle
There has been an
increase in paddle sports
craft on the Lake.
PADDLERS HAVE
TO KNOW THE RULES
OF THE ROAD FOR
BOATING SAFETY.
The number one rule is that a PFD/Lifejacket is required to be readily accessible,
this means that if you are not wearing the
lifejacket it must be within arm’s reach. It is
best to wear the lifejacket, especially during busy days, inclement weather and
night time. Consider it like wearing a bicycle helmet or wearing a seat belt in a car.
Kayaks, canoes and other paddlers should
never assume that powerboats can see
you on the water.
Always watch out for Power Boats.
Keep a sound signaling device such as a
whistle handy in order to attract attention
if needed.
At night a white light must be shown
toward oncoming boat traffic. Paddlers
may carry either a flashlight or lighted
lantern that can show a white light in sufficient time to prevent a collision. This is
both a federal and state regulation.
Always make sure that you tell someone
where and when you are paddling, also
weather changes quickly so get to shore
as quickly as possible.
Paddle together, it is sometimes more fun
and enjoyable when paddling alongside
someone or in a group.
• Wear your lifejacket
• Watch out for Power Boats
• Watch the weather
• Have a whistle or
sound signal handy
• Always have a light
at night or dusk
All Power Boats Must Have
Lights On At Night

Lake Mohawk
Dear Club Member,
As we plan our gardens, polish our boats,
store the snow throwers and sharpen our lawn mowers, we once again look forward
eagerly to the wonderful activities of summer at Lake Mohawk. Now is the time your
Club begins to plan its annual, much anticipated and enjoyed Fourth of July fireworks
display. This annual patriotic event, which has been held at Lake Mohawk since its
inception, has long enhanced the prestige of Lake Mohawk in the wider community
and, indeed, the State.
We are all aware of the national economic downturn that has, in one way or another,
affected all of us. Though impacted as well, Lake Mohawk, as a result of good leadership and management, is in sound fiscal state. At the same time, good management
practice dictates careful oversight of ancillary activities and expenditures. You would
expect no less of us.
Accordingly, we are asking you to consider being an active participant in this year's July 4th fireworks display by making a personal donation
to this patriotic and entertaining activity. Our goal this year is $10,000.
Yes…
Thank you and Happy Spring!
Jay Dunn, Trustee; Chairman, House Committee

Beaches
Toboggan Park Beach
As you all can see the conditions are
finally improving at our little Beach.
Many thanks to Mark Musilli, our
new General Manager and the Board
for listening and acting. I am hopeful
we can now rebuild our membership
and volunteer base to keep the area
clean and safe.
Safety and security patrols have
been implemented. Lifeguards from
other beach areas are kayaking over
to check beach tags and the Lake
Patrol Officers are coming in by boat
throughout the day and night to
check on things as well. Thanks to
Rich Carlson for spearheading this
very important effort.
With Upper Lake Beach closed this
season we are seeing more visitors
and with that comes more
maintenance and trash. We could
really use your help in cleaning up,
mowing the grass and general
repairs. Please contact myself or Jeff
Tensen our Dock Chairman if you
can help out.
We continue to have a serious
problem with dogs being allowed to
run loose on the Toboggan Park
Beach property. Aside from the
animal waste that is often left
behind, it can be frightening to
people to have barking dogs come
running up to members and their

complaints about this and it needs to
be addressed. If you must take your

Beach 4
Looking back on the beginning of
2014 it seemed like summer would
never come. But it has definitely
arrived, at last, and Beach 4 has been
the place to be! We would like to send
out another “thank you” to everyone
that helped out with our Ice Cream
Social and the South of the Border
party. Both events were a lot of fun
for our members and guests. Thanks
for making them a success.
We will be hosting another event on
July 26th, which will be our Southern
Chicken and Ribs Party. Come join
us for a night of southern fried chicken
and barbeque ribs to celebrate the
summer. Check your emails, Facebook
and next month’s article, for
information about this and other
upcoming beach events. Please
remember that any private parties
this year must be arranged with our
beach president, Kathy, in advance.
There is a calendar posted on our
beach bulletin board if you want to
see what days are booked.
We ask again that you please take
any trash and recycling home with
you this summer. Please come
prepared with trash bags, as we are
not able to keep up with the entire
beach goer’s trash and recycling.
Also, we appreciate donations of
napkins, plates, cutlery, charcoal and
propane to keep up with what
everyone is using in the kitchen. If
you find yourself using a lot and
frequently, please replace it!
Remember to check your email or
join our Facebook group for info on
events and important dates. If
anyone is interested in participating
in one of our events, has an idea for a
summer event they would like to see
at the beach, or to be added to our

Sleepy Lagoon
Summer is here. Thank you to all of
the families who have gone above
and beyond in time, muscle and
brainpower to help with the recent
improvements. President Mike says,
“So many came and went to help, about
two dozen souls participated that
weekend, plus Victoria Yuskaitis and
Emily Vreeland who did a great job of
‘Jeremy proofing’ the spikes.” Some
even hauled sand in the pouring
rain. The project would not have
been possible without the generous
time and resources from Glenn
Heathcote and the entire Gorvan
family. How can we thank you?
If you did not receive your
newsletter with details, and want to
be a SLB member, please email us at
[email protected]. We will send
you our donation form and add you
to our growing community. Thank
you to those who have paid dues and
more as of June 1, Roessler, Zanetakos,
Figiel, Dennehy, Gerdes, Sweet, Puglio,
Brown, Maldonado, Tybur, Stark,
Gorvan, Hotchkiss, Stephens and the
Ciaburri’s, the latest addition to our
Sleepy Lagoon Family. Welcome to the
‘hood. Our treasurer, Mike Dennehy,
70 Whipporwill collects the dues and
all amounts help.
The May and June events were a
success. Ice Cream Sale at Sparta Day
cleared $460. Thank you Mike, Mark
and Dan for hauling down the
freezer, Pam Vreeland for getting the
‘scream, and Wendy and Julia Miller,
Sleepy Lagoon Pie Bakers with their Creations at the Memorial Day Picnic
Claire, Erin and Emily Vreeland,
Natasha, Nick and Skylar Gialanella
and Reece and Zoe Abrams for doing
a stellar job selling it.
More thank you’s to the Tybur
family for making the Memorial Day
Picnic extra fun. Nick and Skylar
Gialanella took first place in the pie
making contest with an oh so sweet
and delicious peach pie. First salsa,
now pie. Either these kids are from
the south or I see culinary school in
their future. Runner up was Emma
Rennie with a dreamy Lemon Meringue.
Greg Yuskaitis took third with not
one, but two, beautiful apple pies.
Unsure who had more fun at the
watermelon eating contest, the kids
chowing down or the adults on the
sidelines. Nicholas Figiel beat out his
brother and friends in the older kid
category, Skylar scored a prize again
in the younger kid category and
Michaela Dennehy won the wee one.
Thank you to all who participated!
Results of June’s Fishing Derby will
be in the next issue.
This month SLB members will be
informally picnicking down at the
lagoon to Celebrate the Fourth.
Please remember to have your LMCC
ID tags with you. As you use the
beach this season, please take your
trash with you. The bears, deer and
now add in a neighborhood fox, love
making a mess.
On Sunday, July 13th Greg is
rallying the troops for the Annual
Canoeing/Rafting Down the Delaware.
This seven mile ride is a ton of fun.
Meet at the beach at 7am and return
5ish. See your email for more details.
The cost includes a canoe or raft, life
jackets, plus a BBQ lunch that you
will stop for about half-way down.

TRACKER
Attention All
Boaters
Boating on Lake Mohawk is a great experience,
whether cruising, fishing, sailing or waterskiing.
There is a lot of lake to share and if everyone
makes an effort to be more aware and respectful of others we are all going to be safer.
Be aware of the damage an unnecessarily large
wake could be doing to docks, boats and other
property. Look behind you, how big is your wake?
Be respectful of fishermen who enjoy quietly fishing in undisturbed peace. Please do
your best to keep wakes to a minimum for
those skiers who cherish that rare early morning flat water.
Lastly, be very aware of traffic and skiers near
the Boardwalk during the Ski Hawk practices on
Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:30 pm until
sundown, and Saturday and Sunday mornings
9 am until noon. It is best for boats to travel
slowly along the East Shore/Plaza end of the
Boardwalk when entering and exiting the area.
Keep in mind that non-powered vessels have
the right of way over powerboats.
The most important thing on the water is safety. Awareness, consideration and courtesy will
ensure we all have a safe Lake for our families,
our fellow boaters, and ourselves.

Lake Mohawk Ski Hawks
What a way to start the season!
Blessed with great weather, great
water conditions and a great crowd,
the Ski Hawks opened our 2014 Show
Ski Season with a bang. With only
one cold day of practice, and a few
new skiers, everyone one who skied,
drove, announced or helped out in
any way deserves congratulations for
a job well done. I think everyone who
came down to the Boardwalk on a
splendid Monday morning should
be proud of this team. Now we set
our sights on the Fourth of July and a
really fun show.
On a more serious note, the Lake
Mohawk Ski Hawks would like to share
the greatest “secret” to a wonderful
water skiing experience. Trust us folks;
we have learned a few things water
skiing over fifty years on Lake Mohawk!
Being on the water to enjoy boating
is fun and fun is what skiing is about
to our young and not-so-young
skiers. Start the day right, before you
get to the dock, by preparing for a
safe day on the lake. Nothing ends a
day on the water more quickly than
an injury; safety is the real secret to a
great day on the lake.
As boaters and skiers we have a
responsibility to be safe for those on
our boat, others on the lake, and the
entire Lake Mohawk community.
Everything we do as Ski Hawks is
built on habits of safety. Ski Hawks
understand how much fun it is to
show off for your friends and family,
nothing is more satisfying to us
than to see huge crowds at our
shows. Yet, every part of our show is
built on a foundation of safety and
consideration for our fellow skiers.
Many of the stunts we perform
require special equipment and
training; our shows include a “do not
try this at home” announcement for
this reason. Only registered and
insured Ski Hawk members have the
privilege to use the jump ramp for
any purpose. We understand that
trying a new skill or trick is exciting,
but not at the cost of an easily
preventable injury. Please speak to

us after the show or at one of our
practices if you want to try something
new or want advice, so we can get
you safely on the right track.
We also want to take a moment to
remind our fellow boaters that safety
is everyone’s responsibility. While we
welcome everyone to come to the
Boardwalk area to watch us ski, we
ask you do so safely, especially if you
are arriving by boat. Please be aware
of our boats and skiers during
practices on Tuesday and Thursday
evenings 6:00 p.m. until sundown and
Saturday and Sunday mornings 9 a.m.
until noon. It is best for boats to
travel along the East Shore/Plaza end
of the Boardwalk when entering and
exiting the area. We encourage every

and aware every time you are on the
lake, no matter where you are.
Operating your boat in a courteous
and considerate manner increases
everyone’s safety and enjoyment. We
ask you to be especially alert when
approaching the north end of the
lake during the time of a Ski Hawks’
practice.
Back to the fun part of Ski Hawks;
at the end of July we are off to
Massachusetts and the Eastern Region
Show Ski Tournament. This last
weekend in July, we take our show on
the road to Holyoke, Massachusetts.
We hope to have a few skiers
competing individually, some for the
first time. Best of luck to all of you!
Keep in mind August is a great time
to work on new skills. Please contact
J Todd Muth with any of your
membership questions or visit us on
the web:

See you on the water!

Inflatable Red Bouys are Important in the Lake
The inflatable red bouys in the Lake mark the diffusers that pump
Alum into the water thus preventing Algae from growing.
Please keep away from the red bouys at high speeds.
If you feel an unusual tug it may not be your skier or tube,
it may be the Alum lines. If for some reason you caught a line
please dislodge your boat from the line.

Although the winter ice really took
its toll on our docks, we finally were
able to have our first races on June 8.
Rich and Gail Miner were our race
officials for two races. In the first
Lightning race, Perry Anderson and
crew Margaret Anderson and Shirley
Miller took an early lead but Chuck
Chute and crew Haley Chute overtook
Perry and led for five legs. But, Perry
was able to win in a tacking duel on
the last leg. In the second Lightning
race Perry Anderson won the start
and led all the way.
In the Snipe fleet’s first race the
Mackey brothers, Michael and
Christopher, won the start but the
team of Constance Gill and Angela
Hopkins was able to slide through
the Mackey’s lee and lead for most of
the race. In the final beat the
Mackey’s out tacked the Gill boat and
won the race. The Mackeys also won
the start in the second race. The Gill
boat then lifted over the Mackey boat
and led for five legs until the
Mackey’s caught and passed them at
the second leeward mark and went
on to win again.
The following is a schedule of events
