Northlink College, Tygerberg Campus is situated
15 minutes from Cape Town’s city centre in the Northern
Suburbs.
Northlink College has an established track record of
educational excellence. The College is state-aided and
offers a number of full-time and part-time courses which
you can enrol for once you have completed one of the
language courses at an Upper-Intermediate level.

The Language School offers group and
individual classes in:
• General English (all levels from Beginner to Advanced),
• Examination Preparation (for examinations such as IELTS),
• Specialised English courses in Business, Information Technology
( IT ) the Hospitality Industry, Tourism and Engineering.
Our courses are taught by qualified, mother-tongue English
teachers
Lessons are tailor-made for the student. Whether you can speak
no English, or need to improve on your current language abilities,
our Language School has a course to suit your needs.

Courses available
• General English:
Enrolment takes place every Monday
These courses range from 3 months to a year and cover all 5
levels needed to be proficient in English. (Study visa required)
• Conversational and Enrichment Courses:
(Starting dates as advertised in the local press)
Northlink College offers these courses for the person who needs
to improve their English, in general, whilst in South Africa.
(No study visa required)
• English and Golf Training:
(Two intakes per annum - January and July)
This unique course has been designed to allow students to learn
the game of golf while learning English at the same time. Log on
to the website for further details (Study visa required)
• English and Hospitality:
The course has been designed to allow students to learn English
and afterwards continue with an international qualification in
Hotel Management, Assistant Chef or Professional Cookery. These
are accredited by City and Guilds of London. (Study visa required)
• IELTS Preparation:
(International English Language Testing System)
You will be prepared to sit your IELTS examination at the British
Council once you have completed level 5 or 6 (Advanced English).
(Study visa required)
• TEFL:
(Teach English as Foreign Language)
This course will prepare you to teach English – especially in the
Eastern countries and to private students.

Course Duration
Group classes are from Mondays – Fridays (minimum 3 hour
sessions per level per day).
The Language School is open from 09h30 – 17h00 and classes are
scheduled accordingly.
Choose the time-span you would like to stay for:
• 12 weeks
• 18 weeks
• 36 weeks
Private, one-on-one classes are also available on request.

Course Content
When you enrol, you will write a placement test. Your listening,
grammar and spelling abilities will be assessed.
After completion of the assessment, you will be placed in the
most suitable level.
Our experienced teachers will help you improve your English by
focusing on basic skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Lessons are based on material published by Cambridge and Oxford
University Presses.
Study material is free of charge for new students, but on
continuation you will have to purchase them at a
reasonable price.
Level testing is done on a regular
basis which determines whether
you can progress to the next
level.

Seasons
The academic year starts in January and ends in
December. Northlink College is a multi-cultural society;
therefore public and religious holidays are celebrated.
The College has four terms:
1st term: January – March
2nd term: April - June
3rd term: July – September
4th term: October - December
Seasons:
Summer: December - February
Autumn: March- May
Winter: June - August
Spring: September – November
Summers are hot and dry and winters are wet, windy
and cold.
• Currency:
In South-Africa the South African Rand (ZAR) is used.
There are many foreign exchange kiosks, but it is
recommended that you change your money on arrival at
Cape Town International Airport.
