THE CONFERENCE
CONNECTOR
Enhancing Relationships Through Communication
From the desk of Bishop Jim Whitfield
Bishop Whitfield’s New E-mail Address: [email protected]
October 2013
In his book entitled, “God’s Time and Ours,” Leonard Griffith writes of an
event in the life of Saint Francis. It seems that Saint Francis was kneeling
in chapel in deep prayer and meditation over the church. He heard in his
soul the distinct and authentic voice of the Christ saying, “rise up and repair My church.” This is such a powerful word for us today as well. We
live in a church world where many of our churches need clergy and lay leaders to “rise up
and repair His church.” I urge all of us to be a part of repairing our outreach programs and
repairing our ministry programs to the little ones, the youth, parents and grandparents.
We know that when the church is healthy and focused on mission, it is greatly used by the
Holy Spirit to repair lives, repair marriages & repair families. Society as a whole
is influenced for the good. There are millions of souls who are up for eternal
grabs. There are some right around us that can be & are being reached by
churches that refuse to become a museum or a hospice house.
I want to thank all of you pastors who are praying over the materials that
were given out at the Leadership Summits. I pray you will be inspired as
was Saint Francis to “rise up & repair His church.”
Blessings and Favor,
Jim Whitfield

School of Ministry
October 4-5, 2013
This year, World Missions Ministries presents another
awesome opportunity for you to enhance your local
Missions ministry and carry your church to the next
level in Missions promotion and support.
These events will be used to educate, train and
equip Pastors, Local Missions Directors and indeed all
of our congregations on the fundamental of IPHC’s
World Missions Ministry. Whether you’ve been involved in Missions for years or you’re brand new to
the concept of Missions Ministry, these events will
benefit YOU!
The schedule for most of these events (held in each
district) is listed below (some will be scheduled in
the next few days, so watch your mail for those).
There is no registration fee, but your District Director will need to know how many are coming from
your church in order to plan for refreshments, materials, etc. Check the schedule and call, fax or e-mail
your attendance to the Conference office or to your
District Director ASAP! We look forward to seeing
YOU at this year’s Missions Workshops!

African American Ministries
And as they went through the cities, they delivered
them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained
of the apostles & elders which were at Jerusalem.
And so were the churches established in the faith, &
increased in number daily. (Acts 16:4-5)
Greetings brethren!
Experts have stated and proven that the most effective way to
evangelize a territory is to plant churches. I believe there is unreached territory in Eastern North Carolina, in which we as a
Conference have been graced with the opportunity to occupy.
We have several churches in our conference that may be
interested in mothering a church, churches that may be interested
in multi-sites, as well as churches that may have folk in your local
assembly that may feel the leading of the Holy Spirit to plant a
church in an area that needs the influence and blessing of the
kingdom of GOD. Many have asked about methods of desegregating their congregations, as well as how to reach out to
people of various ethnic groups, cultures, and generations. It is
my conviction that there are many potential church planters that
are in our midst. I have a conviction in my heart to reach the lost
& to plant as many healthy churches in our territory as the Holy
Spirit would permit. I ask that you make contact with me at your
convenience so we may discuss your interest in participating in our
efforts to occupy the untouched territory in the NC Conference.
Blessings,

CHANGING SEASONS: It's time to say goodbye to our summer
love. This year Archives was blessed with the presence of a gifted
16 year old student from Falcon Christian Academy by the name
of Lisa. Lisa came to us through the Workforce Development
program and my what an asset she was. With her help, we have
managed to get the majority of our Conference Minutes & Evangels
scanned into PDF documents. That was the first step we needed
to take in order to make our research process more updated and
our most regularly referenced materials more accessible. Also, it's
great that these sources are now preserved in digital format for
years to come. Lisa did a great job and not only helped our department but most of the other departments in the office as well.
She was a joy to work with & we missed her the very moment she
was gone. We wish her a great year at the academy.
OTHER NEWS:
 Have you checked out the IPHC website? There is an article up
about the Goshen P.H. Church. Goshen is located in Sampson
County and is one of our oldest churches dating back to at least
1896. But, it is also one of our most recently revitalized
churches in our conference.
 Lowland P.H. just celebrated their 75th year of ministry.
 Did you know one of our newest churches called "Living Word"
in the Wilmington area has been in a 60 + day revival?
 Faye Jones from Shiloh P.H. made the winning bid at Camp-
meeting on the beautiful buffet table that was given by the Rev.
Eddie & Daisy Morris family. It is now in the Shiloh P.H. Church
fellowship hall. Thanks for your support Mrs. Faye!
