Message
In behalf of the Board of Regents of the Philippine College of Surgeons, I cordially invite all
PCS Fellows, surgical residents-in-training, students of surgery and guests to our 70 th
Annual Clinical Congress which will be held at the EDSA Shangrila Hotel in Mandaluyong
City from November 30 to December 3, 2014.
The theme for this year’s convention, “Technology and the Changing Practice of
Surgery” reflects the PCS pursuit of objectives and initiatives set to achieve international
and global relevance. The PCS seeks to achieve this through meaningful discussions of
the latest technological advances in surgery and how these innovations influence the
practice of surgery in this part of the world.
I congratulate the Committees on Conventions and Continuing Professional Development
(CPD) for doing a splendid job in crafting a comprehensive, holistic, balanced and
pragmatic program of activities consonant with the annual theme. The PCS is proud of its
bench of expert surgeons who have developed skills beyond the discipline and who have
demonstrated capabilities that mirror their multi-layered and multi-faceted nature.
Indeed, the future is bright for the next generation of Filipino surgeons who must face the
modern day demands of ethics and excellence in the surgical profession.
The PCS likewise warmly welcomes our distinguished foreign speakers, most especially the
Presidents and/or representatives from ASEAN partners, the Royal College of Surgeons of
Edinburgh and the American College of Surgeons. Undoubtedly, the presence and
participation of these acknowledged global experts and respected authorities in surgery
and their respective disciplines add solid credibility and international dimension to our
convention.
One of the most awaited parts of our yearly gathering, which our participants and partners
must not miss is the Fellowship Night on the first day of the congress which features
wholesome performances from seasoned entertainers and talented PCS Fellows from our
different Chapters. This is one rare opportunity for everybody to forget for a while
problems we encounter in the workplace and simply enjoy this evening in the company of
peers and friends.
Mabuhay ang PCS!

Message
In behalf of the Board of Regents of the Philippine College of Surgeons I am privileged to invite
all Fellows, Residents, Foreign Surgeons and Guests in our forthcoming 70th Annual Congress
with the theme "Technology and the Changing Practice of Surgery".
This year's Congress will highlight the rapidly progressing developments and advances in
technology, the use of new techniques in the diagnosis and management of common and
complex surgical conditions and its impact in the evolving practice of surgery.
This year's Congress will once more provide all participants with a variety of interesting and
academically rewarding sessions which will meet the high quality of learning that each one
would expect from our well known speakers and experts both local and international. The
Committee on Continuing Professional Development has lined up diverse and carefully selected
topics that are relevant in our day to day practice, covering general and specialty fields of
interests presented in a variety of engaging formats, ranging from lectures, panel discussions,
debates, master class, and the more intimate meet the experts sessions and complemented with
research paper contest, video presentations and workshops, aimed at skills acquisition through
focused and applied learning. The PSGS, PALES, and other Surgical Subspecialty Societies will
likewise hold simultaneous Postgraduate courses and Symposia, highlighting various
technological advances and current developments in the practice of surgery.
In addition to these enticing and enriching educational sessions, various non-surgical topics such
as medico-legal concerns, electronic records, group practice and life beyond the operating
room sessions - highlighting various interesting hobbies of surgeons, will be presented.
In fine, as has always been expected, our annual congress will surely provide a uniquely
rewarding educational experience in keeping with our mission of providing the highest quality of
surgical care and maintaining professionalism among surgeons. The outstanding program will
be spiced by the alumni homecoming and the much anticipated Fellowship night which will show
case the talents of the Filipino performers, that will indeed be another entertaining affair to
remember.
Once again, in behalf of the BOR, I welcome one and all as I look forward to seeing you in our
Annual Clinical Congress.

CHARMS OF OLD MANILA (approximately 4 hours)
Minimum 2 persons – PhP2,660.00 per person
Take a step back in time as you discover the
“Charms of Old Manila”. The tour starts with
a visit to historic Rizal Park, where the remains
of our country’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, lie
within the cornerstone of Rizal Monument. Tour
heads on to the old walled city of Intramuros
built during the Spanish colonial period. The first
stop is Fort Santiago which served as
headquarters of the military might of the
Spanish, American and Japanese colonizers until
its destruction in 1945. Tour then proceeds past
the San Agustin Church, the oldest structure in
the country which dates back to 1571. The next
stop is Casa Manila, a reconstructed 19th
century mansion replete with 16th to 19th century
furniture and furnishings. The last stop is
Baluarte de San Diego, the only battery
directly facing the sea.
NEW MANILA TOUR (approximately 4 hours)
Minimum 2 persons – PhP2,660.00 per person
The other half of Manila is a modern metropolis
which is gaining more importance as a major
artery in the financial life stream of the country.
The first stop is the Cultural Center of the
Philippines Complex, a reclaimed land situated
along Roxas Boulevard, reminiscent of the glorious
years of the Marcoses. The drive through the
complex starts with a glance of the fountainadorned Cultural Center of the Philippines,
the country’s seat of cultural awareness. Then
move on to the Philippine International
Convention Center and Folk Arts Theater
which are favorite venues for both local and
international events, concerts and performances.
Adjacent to the structures are the Coconut
Palace, a building made mostly of coconut
materials and Westin Philippine Plaza, a deluxe
hotel which gives a magnificent view of the Manila
Bay. Tour then proceeds to the financial and
commercial center of Makati, passing through the
plush residential village of Forbes Park dubbed as
“Millionaire’s Row”. The last stop is the
American Memorial Cemetery, the largest and
most beautiful outside continental U.S.
TOURS
CORREGIDOR ISLAND TOUR (approximately 8 hours)
Minimum 2 persons – PhP3,375.00 per person
Corregidor, the island-fortress, is a 1-hour
ferryboat ride. Located 26 miles west of
Manila, “The Rock” as it became known
during World War II, was the last FilipinoAmerican bastion to fall to the Japanese. Tour
includes a guided visit to the island’s many
“silent guns” and historical landmarks. The
stirring Light and Sound Show inside the
cavernous Malinta Tunnel which served as
General Douglas McArthur’s headquarters
during the siege should not be missed. Return
to Manila after lunch.
INVIGORATING TAGAYTAY (approximately 8 hours)
Minimum 2 persons – PhP7,000.00 per person
A leisurely 1-hour and 30-minute drive though
the countryside passing through coastal villages,
ricefields, fruit orchards and coconut plantations
shall take you to the cool clime of Tagaytay.
Nestled in a secluded corner of Tagaytay Ridge
about 2,250 feet above sea level is Tagaytay
Highlands which offers a panoramic view of one
of the rarest known sights in the world – the
smallest Taal Volcano. Spend the rest of the
day enjoying Tagaytay’s natural attractions: its
beautiful views, dramatic terrain and cool
mountain climate.
ALL PRE- AND POST- CONFERENCE TOURS MAY BE AVAILED OF BY
ACCOMPANYING PERSONS.
