This year all government and private offices as well as in schools raise flag to commemorate the 2013 Indonesia’s 68th year of Independence. SIS Cilegon family celebrated this day with a program which started at 08.00 a.m. with a flag ceremony. It was attended by all students, teachers, parents, and nonteaching staff wearing Indonesia traditional costumes from different regions. The flag raising ceremony was done solemnly. After which, everyone went to the back yard for the presentations. This year’s theme was “Preserve Indonesian Culture through the spirit of Independence”. The opening salvo was the traditional singing of “Hari Merdeka” by all SIS students in which they sang while waving their Indonesian flag enthusiastically. The program was a showcased of different traditional songs and dances. The Preschoolers did very well the “Si Patokaan” and “Tokecang” dance, which made their parents jump off their feet and for sure very proud of them. The Primary students show off their dance skills in their respective dance presentation; P1 and P2 did a unique dance of “Ampar – Ampar Pisang” with their bamboo stick; P3 and P4 did a nice interpretation of “Sinanggar Tulo” and finally the program was highlighted with the famous traditional dance from West Sumatra “Din Din Ba Dindin” performed gracefully by our P5 and P6. It was amazing! In between each dance presentation, from Preschool up to Primary children proudly show off their colourful costume in a fashion show. The program ended with a song “Sayonara”. The celebration was graced with the presence of Mr. Oliver Anderson, COO of SIS Group of Schools. We were so happy having somebody to represent the BOG and BOD of our organization. After the spectacular show, the children took 15 minutes to change into their red and white costume. It was time for the games! All were so excited to play and take pride of the Indonesian culture and traditions through the different games prepared for everybody. The first game which was participated by children as well as parents was the “eating kerupuk”. It was indeed a wonderful day seeing the children played along with their parents and teachers. Of course the day will not end without eating together traditional Indonesian food. Everyone went home with smiles on their faces. See you next year’s Indonesian Day. School Camp The annual SIS Cilegon School Camp was held on 8-9 November 2013. This year, SIS Cilegon collaborated with EviaLand School in Serang. There were 21 campers from SIS Cilegon while 40 from EvFiaLand. SIS campers graciously welcomed their new friends and camp-mates. After welcoming their new friends, camp expectations and the activities were presented. Campers were grouped and were assigned to a “troop”. The troop is a combination of students from both schools from different levels whom they will work with for two days. Each troop had to perform and complete set of tasks. Campers chose their “troop leaders” and planned their strategies in completing all the tasks assigned to them. They were reminded that “safety” of every camper is the priority in the camp and for every camper to watch another camper’s back. Teamwork, collaboration, cooperation, hardwork are but the few values displayed by these young campers during the event. Every task from tent pitching, fire building, relay games to “troop” presentation during camp-fire were “seriously” and “meticulously” planned, executed and completed by every troop. It was indeed an event where “serious learning is seriously fun”. I enjoyed the school camp with EvFia Land School; I met a lot of new friends. It was quite hard to teach them in cheers and yells, but with the help from our teachers and doing a lot of practises, we then did a great job as we came in first place in Cheers and Yells competition. Emilie, SIS-P6 Though it rained, we had our camp fire opening in the field and continued our presentations of songs, cheers and yells at the back foyer. After all the presentations, we had the most awaited part of the camping, “ barbeque party” with our parents, friends and some of the alumni who visited us during the camp fire. Keiji, SIS-P6 I was really happy because we had a chance to have a school camp with EvFia Land School kids. One of the activities which I learnt a lot is the “first aid workshop”. Jeong Won, SIS-P3 One of the activities I enjoyed most was the obstacle game in the swimming pool; we have to ride the big floater from one side of the pool and paddle using our hands to go to the other side. In this activity, I learnt that teamwork is important to achieve something. Raga SIS-P5 This was my first time being a troop leader. It was really hard since I had to control all the fourteen kids, mostly upper primary pupils and I am only Primary 4. I had to constantly remind them during “Amazing Race” that we need to work as a team and their co-operation is very important. However, I really had a lot of fun during the school camp and I can’t wait to join another school camp next year with other school. Trisha, SIS-P4 I enjoyed the “Amazing Race”. The pit stops were quite easy if we work together as a group. Evann, SIS-P3 I like the school camp with SIS-Cilegon because the students always speak English well they are very polite and friendly, Diaz (EvFia Land student) I learned teamwork and being independent from the camp we had with SIS Cilegon. Joshua (EvFia Land student) I learned that in order to accomplish our goal we need to work as a team. If given another chance to join next year’s school camp with SIS Cilegon, I like to do more pool games and the amazing race. Phorus (EvFia Land student) 23– 26 September SIS CILEGON Health Week “YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT” This is a saying people often believes in and yes it’s true. Our health depends primarily on the foods we take in. The “Daily Meal for a Healthy Body”, spearheaded the Health Week activity. This is the daily food theme which the pupils will follow and they will be monitored. The start of the week was fun when pre-school pupils did a guessing game. They were blind-folded and ask to guess the food that they have eaten. On the other hand, primary pupils enjoyed much the trivia game on health and arts. We ended the first day eating nutritious food. “The Pledge of Healthy Living” was done by the pupils to campaign the importance of keeping our body healthy. It was simple but significant. To showcase the power of the hands, both teachers and pupils worked together to prepare foods assigned to them. Preschool pupils were too excited while preparing their octopus sandwiches. Lower primary pupils also were careful while slicing different fruits for their fruit salad. On the other hand the Upper Primary pupils helped Mr. Sam prepare and cook shrimp soup. After all the preparations, it was time for sharing and eating. All tummies were satisfied. Health week ended with a sumptuous food to share and a simple program to emphasize the importance of eating varieties of food. It is not how expensive a meal one person has to eat but how nutritious it is for the body. Ritchie tasting food for Primary pupils pay attention to the questions given. At the end, Keiji ( P6 ) won the Trivial Game. Program Highlights: Preschool pupils with their Fruit Modeling & Primary pupils singing and dancing to the song “ Fruits and Vegetables”. Eating Contest ntes I Know my Kid Co Torch Relay t On Friday of 25 October, the school celebrated the Family Day. In spite of the hot weather, this did not stop everyone to enjoy the said event. The event kicked off with the House Parade. Torch Lighting followed right after and the challenging games. Giant IDP’s were also displayed as a part of the exhibit. It was truly a great week for the students to showcase their talents in drawing, painting, clay modeling and colouring. Many thanks to all teachers, staff and parents for your unending support. And most of all to the students without whose enthusiasm and spirit none of this would have been a success. SIS Cilegon is a school that I can never forget. The teachers, staff and students have a very strong bond with one another. It is like a big family made up of a myriad of people of different languages, races and religion. However, we were able to communicate effectively with English as our lingua franca. I have learnt a lot in my years in SIS Cilegon. Not only in terms of education but also life. The students were not cramped in the classrooms all day. When possible, the students would go outside of the classrooms yet they were still able to study. This is what makes SIS Cilegon unique from the other schools that I have been to. The memories I made during my years in SIS Cilegon will never be forgotten. Christabel Putri Widjaya Singapore It’s almost 7 years that I left SIS Cilegon, the school which I consider my one big family. I miss the school where we were really close to all the people around. One thing I treasure most is the lessons in life SIS has taught me and has been with me ever since I graduated and left the portals of SIS Cilegon. It might sound generic, but the school has taught me lessons like to be responsible in anything I do, to be confident of myself and be kind to others. With all those life lessons that I was taught, my life since SIS has been great. I may have not accomplished that much yet as a person, but I achieved some great accomplishments. I am now studying in Saint Francis Methodist School in Singapore, and during my time here, I have achieved the Student of the Month award, not much, but I'll take it. I was also named the Head of Events in the Student Council. I being a councilor was probably inspired by the time I was a prefect in SIS. . It's always important to help others around, since what goes around, comes all the way back around, and you can affect other people's lives by doing so. It's the little things sometimes that can change how the world thinks of you, so always do good when you can. I haven't accomplished that much yet, so far, but hopefully, later on in life, I could accomplish many more and make the people Vito Tupado Garcia Lumbantobing I studied at SIS Cilegon from Primary 3 to Primary 6. Throughout the years, I have learnt a lot. I’m thankful for SIS CIlegon, because I believe during my stay in school I have improved my English speaking skills. The teachers are generous and they always guide me when I have difficulties. They made the learning environment fun and interesting. They treated us as a young adult and taught us to always be responsible, friendly and punctual, which was very helpful for me now that I am in my junior and senior high school. Evelyn Valletta School: Tunas Muda International School, Jakarta (S4) I had great time with friends, teachers and parents during my Primary years in SIS Cilegon. I had a lot of experiences there that help me cope up with my secondary years. I learnt the values that mold me into a responsible, independent and confident young adult. The exposure SIS Cilegon gave to us especially during events boost my confidence to handle difficult times in my secondary studies now. Being one of the school leaders in SIS Cilegon, I learn how to be a responsible and efficient leader. I now realized the most important thing that SIS Cilegon gave to me is my English speaking; writing skills and grammar were all good. This has a great impact on me now that I am in my new school. I also enjoyed being with my teachers. I will always remember how kind, cheerful, and motherly-like they are. They gave me encouragement along the way, and I always feel I have a second mom in school. So I left SIS Cilegon with good memories and a happy one indeed. Faylien Imelda School: Tunas Muda International School, Jakarta (S3) Being a student in SIS Cilegon was a wonderful experience. I met amazing friends and teachers. My teachers were always there to teach and guide me. They were a role model to all of us. In school, I would always have a buddy to share stories with and make precious memories together. For me, SIS Cilegon is no ordinary school. It feels like a home, where you feel comfortable and warm. Nevertheless, students focused on their studies too. We always listen to our teachers’ instructions attentively. SIS had taught me many different values, so thanks to SIS, I became the person I am now. Agatha Putri Widjaya School: Pei Tong Primary School, Singapore (P6 I learned a lot from SIS Cilegon. The first time I entered the school, I couldn’t speak anything in English and even didn’t know the alphabet well. But thanks to my friends’ and teachers’ kindness and effort, now I can communicate with them and I always got high score in English examination here in Korea. I’m still very surprised about my improvement. And this I owe to SIS. I also discover my interests by joining various CCA offered in SIS. I learned friendship and how to cooperate with my friends by playing and performing group project. Because of various events like Indonesian Independent day or Chinese New Year, I learned many things about other country’s culture. Events such as Family day, I spent precious time being with my family and made beautiful memories. One of my best experiences from SIS was the SIS Olympics. It gave me a chance to discover that I got a talent in swimming and it was amazing to me. Now I’m studying in Gwang Mun high school in Korea. I’m going to graduate high school on 2014 February and till then, I will study English hard especially and become an English teacher in high school in the future. Yi Je Hwang Each academic year is a chance for our young aspiring leaders to become Prefects, a school base student group who will the lead of SIS Cilegon studentry. This opportunity is open to our P3 to P6, however to become one they need to apply and undergo leadership training. All of our P3 to P6 express their desire to become Prefects. Before everyone sets for a one week Lebaran holiday, our excited aspiring leaders went through training. Though the training was simple and it was a fun – filled learning where each game played was an experience that may help them become good leaders of the school. The games taught them different lessons such as; how to follow instructions from their leaders; teamwork must be established among them; being in a group, cooperation must be strong to enable them to achieve what they aim to achieve as a group. This is the 2nd time that the decision of choosing our student leaders comes not only from the teachers but from the students as well. On 15 August, the Primary pupils together with all teachers and staff cast their votes on who will be the Prefects for this Academic Year. That was fun – learned experience to all our pupils. Right after the election we counted the votes which all of us witness. The excitement and the giggling of each one can be seen every time we call out the names of the Prefects they have voted. At last the last ballot was read which ends the election proper. In front of everybody we rank the 6 highest votes and finally we had our list of Prefects for AY 2013 – 2014, Emilie (P6) as our Head Prefect, Trisha (P4) as the assistant, the members are Keiji (P6), Raga (P5), Marvin (P4) and Jeong Won (P3). Monday, 19 August, the Prefects proudly accept the Key of Responsibility during their Investiture. This was witnessed by their friends and parents as they made their oath to do what is expected of them as leaders. Parents with their smiles went up the stage one by one to put on the Prefect tie to their kids. These showed how proud they are that their kids were now called responsible leaders of their school. Emilie as the Head Prefects deliver her speech on behalf of the team. So Prefects…we believe in you!
