The meeting was called to order by President Yvonne Samuelson 4:15 pm (approx.). We had the following guests: • • • • Rick Hanan Kathryn Horton Sharon Ledford Shirley and Victor Nikolashin Minutes of Previous Meeting: No changes. President’s Report: Thanks to everyone who helped put the Specialty together, especially Halina Christie (Show Secretary), Kathy Rosdail and Trudy Kerr (for setting up the tables, etc. on Friday), Kristal Brown and Johanna Primeaux (ring stewards), Sharon Sampson (ribbons), and Cindy Frusetta (awards). Correspondence: No report. October Specialty: Halina thanked Pat O’Connor for being the Rally Chair and thanked Marianne Dub and Nia Surber for handling Obedience. February Specialty: Halina said that everything has been taken care of. Linda Churchill has agreed to be our Juniors Judge. She suggested that we make sure that all of our future Specialty judges can also judge Juniors. Halina said that she would prefer not to be Show Chair for the February Specialty and would like to see someone else take over the job (she will continue to be Show Secretary). The job isn’t that difficult and the Show Chair can show their dogs. Sharon suggested putting together a job description and sending it out to the membership. Halina said that she has a list of Show Chair duties. She will include it in the Bulletin. Kathy said that Obedience has been moved to Fiesta Hall. We need to figure out how to get water and coffee to the Obedience Judge and Stewards. Trophies: Cindy had some suggestions for our next Specialty: a grooming table for Best of Breed (she’s already got it – it was donated by UC Davis); and a soft-sided crate for High in Trial. She would appreciate some ideas for 1st place obedience trophies. At the February Specialty, the Obedience starts at 8 am, so we need to get the trophies to the Obedience ring early. It was suggested that the trophies could be handed off the night before. Special Awards: Johanna said that she is still on the lookout for new challenge trophies. Let her know if you would like to donate one. Sharon has donated a new trophy for the AOC Dog who has the most pointed offspring during the year. The deadline to apply for a challenge trophy is December 1, 2012. The deadline to submit a request for an awards plaque is November 1, 2012. You can send the request to Johanna via either regular mail or email. If you send the request via email, make sure that Johanna confirms receipt—if she didn’t send a confirmation, she didn’t get your email. Also, please print clearly. She can’t always read the handwriting on the submissions. Patricia Rozenoff suggested that Trudy send out the plaque request form to the membership. It’s too late to include the form with the next Bulletin. The form should also be posted on the website. Old Business: • Christmas Party: Kathleen McKnight will do the Christmas Party flyer. New Business: • Selection of Conformation / Sweeps Judges for October 2013 and February 2014 Specialties: Sharon presented the slate of conformation and sweeps judges nominated for the October 2013 and February 2014 Specialties. The membership voted as follows: Conformation: #1 #2 #3 Katie Gammill Sandy McCambridge Bob Piccirillo Sweeps: #1 #2 • Kathy Coon Mark Hersman Rally Awards: We offered a High in Combined rosette for Rally for the first time at the October Specialty. Next time, should we offer a prize, too, or is the rosette enough? Next Meeting: To be announced. Good of the Order: No report. Adjourned: 5:00 pm Submitted by: Rebecca Logsdon, SSCNC Secretary Shetland Sheepdog Club of Northern California Rescue Report The Pleasanton Sheltie Specialty Raffle on October 20th was a wonderful success for NorCal Sheltie Rescue's Veterinary Fund. Our volunteers were impressed by the wonderful prizes donated by SSCNC members and by the high ticket sales. Your generosity helps to make this our most important raffle of the year. We had over 20 adopters participate in the parade with their beloved rescue shelties, many for the first time. Our heartfelt thanks to the club's members for their continued support. Year-to-date we have taken in 34 shelties and adopted out 27. Some of these carried over from 2011. This year the average age at intake has been 5.2 years with 61% surrendered by their owners for a myriad of reasons.
