INTRODUCING
An Innovative Leader in the Private Security Industry
rd
Corporate Offices - 1617 3 Avenue North - Birmingham, Alabama - 35203
SECURITY ENGINEERS, INC.
Philosophy
In 1992 a group of businessmen determined that the Birmingham area lacked a quality
security firm with the advantages of strong, local management. Those investors organized in
1993 with the sole commitment to form a company that would establish a new level of
professional leadership in the private security industry.
Strongly committed to the advantages of local management, Security Engineers’ is
dedicated to providing an unparalleled quality of security service by developing strategic
operation centers with professional management teams who possess a broad array of
experience from law enforcement, military and the private security industry; uniting the public
and private sector in uniquely innovative ways –
Ø
Accept responsibility for our decisions and our employees
Ø
Aspire to the highest level of excellence in our industry
Ø
Set goals which will ensure positive growth
Ø
Develop new areas of service to meet the challenges faced by our clients
Ø
Keep our promise to clients through a commitment to our employees
Ø
Build key relationships within our communities by donating time, money and
resources to public and private organizations
Our progressive standards are detailed and structured, applying equally to each operation
center within our footprint – currently nine offices throughout eleven Southeastern
states. Every individual client is assured their needs will be met in the most efficient, costeffective manner available without cutting corners or jeopardizing safety or quality of service.
As an industry leader, Security Engineers understands true leadership can not be limited to
our own industry. It is our belief that a safer, more secure world benefits all businesses as
well as individuals. Therefore, we actively participate in community service activities and
support a wide range of cultural and human service needs in every community we serve.
Security Engineers remains deeply committed to its roots within the Birmingham community
where the company was founded and is deeply involved on a Corporate level in many areas
of civic life such as the Chamber of Commerce, City Action Partnership of Birmingham
(CAPS), Metro Criminal Justice Executives Association (MCJEA), American Society for
Industrial Security (ASIS) and various government and private boards and counsels.

Company History
Security Engineers, Inc. was originally established in Birmingham, Alabama in March 1961
and quickly developed a reputation for providing quality security services. Then after more
than 20 years of successful business partnerships, the company was purchased by a
diversified national corporation and the name Security Engineers was retired as of 1989.
Then in January 1994, under the management of Donald L. Bottom as President/CEO, a
new organization was incorporated and re-acquired the name Security Engineers. The
company underwent dynamic change as Don Bottom strived to build a unique management
team to meet the goals of the investors.
The results of this committed effort is evidenced by Security Engineers’ steady growth from
an annual revenue of $500,000 in 1994 to over $30,000,000 in annual revenue in 2007 with
a substantial client base and over 1500 employees. Through the strength and experience of
this unique, local management team, Security Engineers has established a reputation of
excellent service and accomplished tremendous growth in a relatively short time.
In 2001, with more than 60% of the security market share in the Birmingham area, Security
Engineers took the next step toward establishing the company as a true leader in the private
security industry as a whole with strategic plans to:
1) Expand our leadership by bringing professional management teams
into new geographic markets; and
2) Meet the challenges of our clients by expanding the services we offer
through our existing management teams.
EXPANSION AND ADDITIONAL SERVICES
As the needs of our clients have grown, so have the services we provide. As a part of our
routine service, Managers now conduct surveys and risk assessments for clients, assessing
problem areas and developing programs and procedures to reduce and/or eliminate their
risks. In conducting such assessments, we would often find issues resulting from improper
or poor background screening and verification of personnel.
To meet this increasing need, Security Engineers established a subsidiary specially staffed
and equipped to manage background screening and verification. Investigations
Corporation of Alabama developed a worldwide network for conducting criminal searches
and various other applicant screening techniques then expanded to include other
professional services such as undercover operations and surveillance, electronic sweeps,
financial due diligence investigations and insurance fraud.
With this resource quickly developing, Security Engineers saw yet another avenue to meet
recurring needs of clients and expand the utilization of an existing resource. Security
Engineers Parking Division, although a relatively new endeavor, has proved to be a natural
integration into our service package. As a routine process, Security Engineers designs and

develops operating procedures, screens and trains personnel, and provides professional
management. A perfect combination for Parking Management!
With these newfound resources, Security Engineers, Inc. committed resources toward
geographic growth. With ‘Quality First’ becoming our company motto, growth has been kept
to a level that would not jeopardize but enhance the original goals. Since inception, it has
been the firm belief that only through a local, experienced management can consistent,
high-quality services be attained. Therefore, to ensure consistent, high-quality service to
every client, expansion is always spearheaded by the establishment of a strong, local
operation team.

SPECIALIZED SERVICES
One of the main reasons Security Engineers, Inc. is recognized as one of the strongest
security providers in the Southeast is our ability to understand and meet the needs of our
clients in a very specialized way. We work individually with our clients to determine what
needs to be accomplished at their site and then customize design a security program
specifically for them. There is no ‘one service fits all’ in our business. Security is a people
business and there are no two alike!
Just one example of this specialized service is the CAP program which was designed for the
City of Birmingham in 1995. Operation New Birmingham and the Downtown Partnership for
Growth had a goal “to stimulate public and private efforts to achieve a safe, attractive and
revitalized City Center”.
The CAP program was designed to provide a visible security
presence with a friendly “customer service” attitude to assist stranded motorist, offer escorts,
discourage pan-handlers and deter theft and vandalism throughout an 80 block district in the
heart of downtown Birmingham.
We designed a program with emphasis on visibility which includes unique uniforms, walking
patrols, bike patrols, and highly visible vehicles and vans. The downtown area now has a
very visible presence of security called – “City Guides”. They interact with Law Enforcement
on a daily basis and have earned the respect of downtown patrons and business.
Reported by The Birmingham News on March 6, 1999, two years after inception:

CLIENT SERVICES
UNIFORMED SECURITY OFFICERS
Security Engineers’ service centers on professional security officers. They are our primary
commodity and the foundation of our extended services. Therefore, we concentrate on
hiring and training the best and most qualified personnel to wear our uniform.
To find qualified applicants, Security Engineers recruits from a diverse applicant pool in the
specific geographic location of the job. All hiring processes are centralized at the Corporate
Headquarters to ensure consistency throughout the company. To ensure all information
submitted during the application process is accurate, a complete 5-year pre-employment
screening is conducted along with a state criminal record search and drug screen.
Then before being offered an assignment at any client facility, every candidate must
complete our highly acclaimed training program and verify by written exam a thorough
knowledge of security principles and measures. An understanding of their assigned location
must also be verified before they staff a post unsupervised.
Security Engineers’ Officers are fully qualified to assist with many physical security
protocols;
• access control (both pedestrian and vehicle);
• vehicular and walking patrols of property and buildings;
• courtesy assistance for customers, visitors and employees;
• critical systems checks and monitoring;
• alarm responses;
• emergency response
• incident tracking and reporting
All services provided are documented and reported utilizing company report forms and
various patrol recording devices where desired and appropriate.
At Security Engineers, we believe our service plays a vital role in the community. We focus
our efforts on supporting our officers in the field with the goal of creating an environment
where officers ‘feel connected’ both to their assignment and the community.
We
encourage personal growth in our officers and help them achieve their goals in developing
career opportunities.
As an integral part of our service, Security Engineers staffs and maintains a 24-hour
Operation Center. Trained Dispatchers, on-duty 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week, ensure
posts are staffed with adequately trained officers 365 days-a-year. This Operation Center
also serves as a call-center for officers when they need to arrange ‘time-off’ for personal
leave, report a ‘late-arrival’ and/or request assistance for flat tires, gasoline, etc. Dispatchers
have access to schedules and site training requirements through specialized software –
WinTeam - which quickly provides a list of qualified replacement personnel available for
assignment. By providing a means for officers to notify us of problems, we practically
eliminate call-offs and no-shows at customer’s sites

Our Operation Center guarantees a ‘one-call’ response for customers to:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Request additional coverage for special events, etc.
Reports problems, concerns or emergency situations
Ask general security questions
Request risk analysis and consultations
Request replacement of an officer
Request Specialty and/or Awareness Training for their own employees
The Operation Center can quickly notify Account Managers and dispatch Field Supervisors
to a site with “one-call” from a Client.
FIELD SUPERVISION AND ADDITIONAL SECURITY PATROLS
As a part of our “value-added” service, Security Engineers, Inc. provides periodic security
patrols of Client’s property when specific needs warrant. During these patrols, Field Officers
in marked security vehicles randomly patrol specified areas of client’s premises to verify the
general physical security of property, buildings, vehicles, equipment and supplies. They
check for critical equipment failures; verify alarm status; provide supervisory support during
emergencies and incidents or when personnel searches are being conducted and generally
provide additional visibility when needed.
ALARM RESPONSE SERVICE
To assist with the recent trend of charges and/or fines for false burglary/fire alarms, Security
Engineers, Inc. can also provide alarm response service to clients. Rather than call a law
enforcement agency when an alarm activates, a Client’s monitoring service can call Security
Engineers’ Dispatch to report the alarm. When our 24-hour dispatch office receives the
alarm notification, an armed Security Engineers Field Officer is dispatched to the Client
premises. The Field Officer thoroughly checks the property and building(s), taking
appropriate action based upon the conditions discovered.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE
Emergencies are never convenient so advance notice isn’t always possible. A big
advantage of being a client of Security Engineers is the immediate response you’ll receive
from our highly trained and experienced Special Response Team (SRT).
Receive priority attention for unplanned security needs such as:
• labor unrest,
• employee terminations,
• natural disasters, etc.
Special discounted rates apply for Security Engineers’ clients but even more important is the
PRIORITY our clients receive during wide-spread disasters when service is at a premium.
With over 1400 officers, we stand ready to meet even short-notice requests – BUT when we
have to choose – our customers come FIRST!

CONSULTATIONS & RISK ASSESSMENTS
With the unique mix of experience and associations of the Security Engineers management
staff, Clients receive viable, cost-effective solutions to security problems and objective, “realworld” evaluations of their security risks.
As another “value-added” service, Managers routinely conduct physical security surveys of
client facilities. During such surveys, areas such as perimeter and building access control,
employee identification systems, fencing, lighting, CCTV systems and general security
related procedures involving loss prevention are reviewed.
Recommendations and
suggestions are then provided to ensure clients are kept abreast of the latest security
issues, products and countermeasures available.
AWARENESS AND SPECIALITY TRAINING FOR CLIENTS
And one more “value added” service Security Engineers’ provides is site-specific specialty
training for clients’ employees. Our Quality Assurance Team is skilled and qualified in

TEAM EFFORT
The organization chart on the previous page details our support team and how it all works
together to provide a solid foundation.
Tim Halfman and Tom Greene, officers of the company, serve as Account Managers for
Clients in the Birmingham area and provide support to Regional Offices to ensure continuity
across all operation centers. Currently serving just over 160 client locations, every client
receives Customer Service visits at least once a month. Customer Service visits are
conducted by Account Managers; Operations Managers and Client Relations Managers to
ensure every issue is handled before it becomes a problem for the client.
Project Managers and Site Supervisors work at Client’ facilities and report directly to the
Account Manager in charge of that account.
The Account Manager supervises all aspects
of the account and works closely with Operations Managers and Client Relation Managers
as well as Director of Quality Assurance to ensure all aspects of contract obligations and
officer selection continually meet client expectations.
To coordinate operations and concentrate on client’s ‘hot spots’, the Senior Managers meet
first thing every morning to review, discuss and pinpoint priority concerns from each area of
service. Through this communication every department can focus on their respective part of
the solution which ensures clients receive a consistent service with problems and trouble
spots receiving the highest priority possible.
