Sponsorship - Royal Canadian Yacht Club
The Royal Canadian Yacht Club
141 St. George Street, Toronto, Ontario M5R 2L8
Dear RCYC Member,
We would like to extend an invitation to you to join the Canada’s Cup Club to support the
Canada’s Cup Defence in 2016.
The reputation of the RCYC as one of the premier yacht clubs in the world rests largely on the
prestige and legacy of the Canada’s Cup, a nation-to-nation competition (Canada and United
States) organized and run by the RCYC, since 1896, to determine yacht racing excellence and
camaraderie on the Great Lakes. The Canada’s Cup event is yacht racing at the highest level. The
best boats and the best teams in head to head competition.
As an RCYC member with a passion for sailing and yacht racing or as a member who supports
our Club’s yachting values and traditions, we hope that you will already be interested in learning
how to contribute with your enthusiastic support. By joining the Canada’s Cup Club, you will be
showing your interest in contributing to not only the larger success of the events, but also for
the needed support for our teams.
This is the 120th Anniversary of Canada’s Cup competition and the 24th Championship. It will be
contested by modern International 8 Metre yachts. The 8 Metre Class has a long standing
connection to the RCYC and the Canada’s Cup extending back to the 1930’s. The 8 Metre yachts
on the Great Lakes have been preserved through their RCYC owners both as an historical legacy
and as a development class. The growing number of modern 8 Metres and their viability as an
on-going racing fleet means the restoration of their right to race for the Canada’s Cup was
earned not given. It’s a great story. See more on it at www.rcyc.ca.
There are three RCYC syndicates challenging for the right to represent RCYC and Canada: Team
Gefion, Defender of Record, led by Richard Self and Mark DeCelles; Team Lafayette led by Terry
McLaughlin; and Team Hollandia led by Bryan Gooderham. Following the Trials in July the
winner will face the United States challenger to be chosen in the United States Trials held by
Sodus Bay Yacht Club, the Challenger of Record.
Donation rewards commence at $100. More details are attached and also on display at our City
and Island Clubs. A minimum donation of $1000 grants membership in the Canada’s Cup Club
and additional Merchandise Rewards. Greater donations provide more notable rewards and
recognition in further appreciation. For more particulars on the Canada’s Cup Club, go to
www.rcyc.ca. Our Canada’s Cup website, www.canadascup.org, may also be available by the
time you receive this invitation.

1) By completing the attached Sponsorship Form and delivering it or sending it to our Club

The site also provides instructions if you wish to contribute by cheque.
For both options tax receipts will be provided by Wind Athletes Canada as prescribed by the
Canada Revenue Authority.
In order to optimally support the teams and the Defence, 50% of donations committed before
the conclusion of our Defence Trials shall be equally allotted to our yacht syndicates competing
in our Defence Trials and 50% to the winner of the Trials. Donations committed thereafter will
be provided to the winner.
We encourage you to be part of this great yacht racing tradition and heritage at the RCYC by
generously joining with your fellow members in the Canada’s Cup Club.
With Appreciation,
