The History of Aubrac Cattle.
Aubrac cattle come from Massif, in France.
They are a very old French Breed. The
French Herd Book was set up in 1893 by an
order of French monks. At this time there
was around 300,000 Aubracs. Today there
are around 3,000 Cows inscribed in the
French Stud Book, but in total there are
10,000 cows. There are Cows in Germany.
Half of them are inscribed in The Stud Book.
In France 60% of the cows are crossed with
Culard Charolais Bulls and now 2,500
The Aubrac Breed!
The "Aubrac" Breed is know for it's toughness,
its high resistance against disease, lovgevity
and easy calving. It is very normal to see a 20
Year Old Aubrac Cow in France still producing
a calf.
The French aim for their Aubrac Cows is to
produce one calf per cow per year.
