ValPAC Endorses Business Growth
Advocates for City Council
T
he Vallejo Chamber of
Commerce Political Action
Committee (ValPAC) today
announced its endorsements for
the 2007 Vallejo Mayoral and City
Council Election that will take
place on November 6th. After interviews with the four candidates
who are running for mayor and
the seven candidates vying for the
three open council seats, ValPAC
has endorsed the following: Erin
Hannigan and Michael Wilson for
City Council.
“ValPAC is most interested in
ensuring that our future council
members are experienced community members who are committed
to responsible business growth and
development,” explained Richard
Hassel, ValPAC Board Chairman.
“ValPAC has endorsed Erin Hannigan and Michael Wilson because
they are committed to the retention
and expansion of businesses in
Vallejo, and facilitating major developments and job creation. They
will prioritize economic activity as
a solution to the city’s financial issues and have a clear understanding of the impacts of health care,
crime and state/federal issues on
the local business community. We
feel they are the two most qualified candidates to ensure increased
economic prosperity and a higher
quality of life for Vallejo, and that
is why we are marshalling all of

Day in and day out, folks
complain about the government
that they have elected. Every
couple years, citizens get a
chance to change their minds.
One of the greatest freedoms and
privileges that we enjoy here in
America is the right to vote.
As November draws near,
the election here in Vallejo
looms large. At the deadline for
filing there were seven candidates for city council and four
candidates for mayor. Three of the
council seats are up for election
as well as the mayor. Considering
there are seven votes on any given
issue, this is a big deal.
The chamber has been working
diligently through ValPAC (The
Vallejo Chamber of Commerce
Political Action Committee) to
interview all the candidates and
endorse those candidates that they
feel will best support the economic development of our city.
ValPAC will endorse candidates that support the retention
and expansion of businesses in
Vallejo; support major develop-

issues on the local business community.
As you may now be aware,
ValPAC has voted to endorse Erin
Hannigan and Michael Wilson.
These candidate endorsements
were announced at the Chamber
mixer on Aug. 23rd.
Our goal at the Chamber is to
keep you informed as to where
each of these candidates stands on
issues that will affect the business
community and further economic
development of Vallejo. To this
end, the Chamber co-sponsored a

Grand Opening Set for Solano
College’s New Vallejo Center
F
or Vallejo residents, the long
anticipated opening of the
Vallejo Center of Solano
Community College (SCC) is
here. The Governing Board of the
Solano Community College District invites the public to celebrate
the grand opening of SCC’s stateof-the-art Vallejo Center at 545
Columbus Parkway on Saturday,
September 15th from 10 a.m. to 1
p.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony
and dedication of the Bill Thurston
Building, named for the long-time
SCC educator and board member,
is set for 11 a.m.
“With the opening of the
Vallejo Center, Solano Community College is coming home to
its Vallejo roots. The new Center
provides improved opportunities
for community access to the College. It’s a place for people living
in Vallejo and Benicia to attend
classes in their neighborhood, and
provides improved opportunity
for community identity and access
to education,” stated Pam Keith,
President, SCC District Governing
Board.
Funded by Measure G Bond
dollars, the $22.3 million Vallejo
Center includes a 40,000 square
foot two-story facility on 10 acres
which can accommodate 3,000
students. The Center includes fifteen classrooms with two science
laboratories, two computer labs,
learning labs, an art classroom, a
multi-use room for PE, dance
and theater programs as well as a
lecture hall. Classroom spaces are
designed with integrated technology systems. Student services,
counseling, financial aid, administrative services and faculty offices
are also located at the Center.
October 15th is the official start
date for late start classes.
About Bill Thurston
Bill Thurston served Solano Community College for 32 years. Bill
began his SCC teaching career in
1972 and taught for 20 years. He
was instrumental in establishing
the Ethnic Studies Department
and funded a scholarship which
is annually awarded to students
majoring in ethnic studies. After
retiring from teaching, Bill was
elected to the SCC Governing
Board in 1992. During his tenure,
he worked tirelessly to pass
measure G, which established the
permanent center in Vallejo, one
of his dreams. The SCC Governing Board passed a resolution
in October of 2004 to name the
administration building at the new
Vallejo Center after Bill to
recognize and honor his efforts
on behalf of the College and the
Vallejo Center. 

2008 Full Metal Attraction
at Harley-Davidson of Vallejo
O
nce again, Harley-Davidson/
Buell of Vallejo is creating
a mega-party scene at their
dealership on Saturday, September
8th. This is the biggest party that
H-D of Vallejo has hosted in five
years.
The September 8th affair is
the traditional Harley-Davidson®
New Model motorcycle Launch
Party for the 2008 season. The
dealership offers a variety of
entertainment while the new 2008
models are available for viewing
and demo test riding. This year,
as in past seasons, the HarleyDavidson of Vallejo customers
will enjoy the dramatic, colorful,
drool-inducing
Ride-In Bike
Show as well.
But this year,
the New Model
“Full Metal Attraction” Open house is on steroids!
On September 8th, the “ThreeCorner Circus” will pay special
tribute to the 105th Anniversary
of Harley-Davidson® American
motorcycle manufacturing. Every
five-year milestone offers the
opportunity for Harley-Davidson
to honor their customers with
historically numbered Anniversary
models and special accessories. It
also serves as an excellent opportunity for the Vallejo dealership to
throw a free party for all motorcycle enthusiasts and the entire
community.
The celebration day will
feature the D. J. music entertainment of Platinum Vibration at
the popular Ride-In Bike Show
in the dealership courtyard, with
Judged as well as Peoples’ Choice
Awards. And, new this year, there
will be additional entertainment
on our Second Corner — the
privately reserved Municipal Parking Lot across the street from the
dealership. The Raymond Victor
Band will perform. A coalition of
Vallejo Tattoo Parlors will partner
with H-D Vallejo to host a Tattoo
Contest and Tattoo Parade. There
will be comfortable seating available for all the stage shows. Also,
various non-Harley-Davidson
Bike vendors will have product
and information booths on this lot.
The spirit and
openhearted
generosity of
Harley riders
has often been
supported and
facilitated through the Harley-Davidson of Vallejo dealership. This
year is no exception. H-D Vallejo
will partner with its long time
friend, the Christian Help Center
of Vallejo, to raise money to support their efforts to provide shelter
and services for the homeless and
disenfranchised.
And, not to be missed, is the
popular Roast Pig platter lunch.
This year, guests will be served at
the USA Classics Museum, which
offers an interesting assortment
of relics and prized heirlooms on
display. The $5.00 lunch donation
goes entirely to the Christian Help
Center. For more information, call
643-1413. 
