ValPAC Endorses Business Growth Advocates for City Council T he Vallejo Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (ValPAC) today announced its endorsements for the 2007 Vallejo Mayoral and City Council Election that will take place on November 6th. After interviews with the four candidates who are running for mayor and the seven candidates vying for the three open council seats, ValPAC has endorsed the following: Erin Hannigan and Michael Wilson for City Council. “ValPAC is most interested in ensuring that our future council members are experienced community members who are committed to responsible business growth and development,” explained Richard Hassel, ValPAC Board Chairman. “ValPAC has endorsed Erin Hannigan and Michael Wilson because they are committed to the retention and expansion of businesses in Vallejo, and facilitating major developments and job creation. They will prioritize economic activity as a solution to the city’s financial issues and have a clear understanding of the impacts of health care, crime and state/federal issues on the local business community. We feel they are the two most qualified candidates to ensure increased economic prosperity and a higher quality of life for Vallejo, and that is why we are marshalling all of (cont. on page 6) Inside: Chairman’s Report (page 2) CEO Report (page 3) Spotlight (page 4) Member News (pages 5- 6) New Members (page 6) Upcoming Events (page 7) 2007 Vallejo Chamber of Commerce Officers Richard (Dick) Hassel Touro University - California Freda Dill US Bank Chairman Chairman Elect John Feldman Treasurer Nationwide Floor & Window Coverings Past Chairmen Verna Mustico Mustico Realty Director Michael Wilson ARC Inc. There’s no accounting for anyone’s taste. Every time we see a bridegroom we wonder why she ever picked him, and it’s the same with public officials.” Will Rogers Day in and day out, folks complain about the government that they have elected. Every couple years, citizens get a chance to change their minds. One of the greatest freedoms and privileges that we enjoy here in America is the right to vote. As November draws near, the election here in Vallejo looms large. At the deadline for filing there were seven candidates for city council and four candidates for mayor. Three of the council seats are up for election as well as the mayor. Considering there are seven votes on any given issue, this is a big deal. The chamber has been working diligently through ValPAC (The Vallejo Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee) to interview all the candidates and endorse those candidates that they feel will best support the economic development of our city. ValPAC will endorse candidates that support the retention and expansion of businesses in Vallejo; support major develop- Rich Geist health care, crime and state/federal issues on the local business community. As you may now be aware, ValPAC has voted to endorse Erin Hannigan and Michael Wilson. These candidate endorsements were announced at the Chamber mixer on Aug. 23rd. Our goal at the Chamber is to keep you informed as to where each of these candidates stands on issues that will affect the business community and further economic development of Vallejo. To this end, the Chamber co-sponsored a candidates forum on August 22nd of Solano Community College to Celebrate the Opening of the new Vallejo Center President and CEO Sponsorship and Public Relations Jenny Klimisch Constance Howard Cristin O’Keefe Graphic Design Community Promotion Admin. With over 400 people attending, and more who listened to the radio broadcast and who will view the re-broadcast on community television, we can safely say that we accomplished our goal. Your participation in this process is crucial. First, make sure you are registered to vote. Second, familiarize yourself with the issues and the candidates. Third, plan on voting for the candidates who will work towards the economic vitality of our community. This is a privilege and an expectation. Exercise your right to vote. As Will Rogers said, “Be thankful we’re not getting all the government we’re paying for.” Don’t forget to vote on Tuesday, November 6th. You are invited by the Governing Board Chamber Management & Staff T.F. “Rick” Wells ments and job creation; support education improvement through business sponsored initiatives; understand the relationship between the educational and business communities; prioritize economic activity as a solution to the city’s financial issues; and demonstrate an understanding of the impacts of Support SCC by buying a brick with your name on it for the Vallejo Center Flag Plaza. This is the biggest party that H-D of Vallejo has hosted in five years. The September 8th affair is the traditional Harley-Davidson® New Model motorcycle Launch Party for the 2008 season. The dealership offers a variety of entertainment while the new 2008 models are available for viewing and demo test riding. This year, as in past seasons, the HarleyDavidson of Vallejo customers will enjoy the dramatic, colorful, drool-inducing Ride-In Bike Show as well. But this year, the New Model “Full Metal Attraction” Open house is on steroids! On September 8th, the “ThreeCorner Circus” will pay special tribute to the 105th Anniversary of Harley-Davidson® American motorcycle manufacturing. Every five-year milestone offers the opportunity for Harley-Davidson to honor their customers with historically numbered Anniversary models and special accessories. It also serves as an excellent opportunity for the Vallejo dealership to throw a free party for all motorcycle enthusiasts and the entire community. The celebration day will feature the D. J. music entertainment of Platinum Vibration at the popular Ride-In Bike Show in the dealership courtyard, with Judged as well as Peoples’ Choice Awards. And, new this year, there will be additional entertainment on our Second Corner — the privately reserved Municipal Parking Lot across the street from the dealership. The Raymond Victor Band will perform. A coalition of Vallejo Tattoo Parlors will partner with H-D Vallejo to host a Tattoo Contest and Tattoo Parade. There will be comfortable seating available for all the stage shows. Also, various non-Harley-Davidson Bike vendors will have product and information booths on this lot. The spirit and openhearted generosity of Harley riders has often been supported and facilitated through the Harley-Davidson of Vallejo dealership. This year is no exception. H-D Vallejo will partner with its long time friend, the Christian Help Center of Vallejo, to raise money to support their efforts to provide shelter and services for the homeless and disenfranchised. And, not to be missed, is the popular Roast Pig platter lunch. This year, guests will be served at the USA Classics Museum, which offers an interesting assortment of relics and prized heirlooms on display. The $5.00 lunch donation goes entirely to the Christian Help Center. For more information, call 643-1413. WELCOME NEW MEMBERS Non-Profit Org.
