Mission Statement
St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church is a parish in the Diocese of
Scranton serving the greater Stroudsburg area by bringing
Christ, in Word and Sacrament, to a diverse community, while
inviting and drawing all into the unity of Christ.
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS His Word Today by Rev. William J. Reilly
Sixth Sunday of Easter
May 1, 2016
“Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever loves me
will keep my word, and my Father will love him,
and we will come to him and make our dwelling
with him.’ And now I have told you this before it
happens, so that when it happens you may believe.”
Following the resurrection, Jesus spent time preparing
His disciples for His taking leave of them. They were
to be pleased that He would go, and then would receive a special gift, the Advocate, the Paraclete. The
Spirit would come to teach and remind.
Jesus’ leaving would not be an absence, but lead to a
greater presence. His disciples, and we as missionary
disciples, would become dwelling places of God’s
Spirit. His gift is ours, provided we love Him.
May the departure of Jesus, the ascension, prepare
us for the special moment and allow us to be truly
dwelling places for the Lord. He comes to reside with
me. He is present in me and in others. I ask the gift of
discernment to discover His abiding presence with me
today.
May is the month of Mary
Let us come together and pray the Rosary every Wednesday @ 6:00 PM in the Church.
Ascension Thursday Mass Schedule
Holy day of Obligation
Wednesday, May 4th Vigil @ 7:00 PM
Thursday, May 5th Holy Day 7:30 AM & 12:00 Noon
THE HOLY SPIRIT NOVENA
We once again join in commemoration of God’s “Spirit”
among us with the observation of the “Novena” in its
honor. It is the oldest of all Novenas in the church and
takes its origin from the words of the Lord Himself. For
He told his disciples to “go back to Jerusalem and await
the Holy Spirit.” This celebration counts those days.
Beginning on May 6th and concluding on May 14th
Thank you to all our volunteers who help make lunches
for our Community Lunch Bag Project. We appreciate all
that you do and your dedication. This would not be possible without all your help.

THE FEAST OF THE ASCENSION
is one of the very special days
known as “The Holy Days of Obligation.” These days are established
throughout the world and indeed
there are some locations that have
more observations than others. Such days
call us to reflect and remember many special
events in our Faith History. Most of us recall
Christmas with ease, but perhaps less so the
Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. Yet, we
are each called to “rise” with the Lord on that
last day and celebrate God’s gift of Eternal
life. It is celebrated 40 days after Easter and
has been held since the 5th Century, in a formal manner, in the Church.
