THIS WEEK AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN Discovering Joy! Sync to calendar at: www.firstpresmhc.org A Sermon Study Series of Philippians If ever there is a roadmap for discovering joy in life, it is found in Paul’s letter to the Philippians! This short Biblical book offers grand instruction and encouragement as to how to rejoice in the Lord in every season and circumstance. This fall we will read through the entire epistle and focus on the path to Discovering Joy! Sermons include: October 23 Phil 3:12-16 October 30 Phil 3:17-4:1 November 6 Break November 13 Phil 4:2-9 November 20 Phil 4:10-23 F U Press on Toward the Goal Our Citizenship is in Heaven (Veteran’s Day Theme) Rejoice in the Lord Always! My God Will Supply our Needs S - 2016 The Finance Committee would like to keep you informed regarding the financial condition of your church. We lost some more ground in September as contributions were less than expenses by $14,173, which increased our deficit to $51,085. This is similar to our financial status at this time last year when our deficit was $55,881. This deficit isn’t comfortable, so we encourage you to review your personal giving and bring it up to date if possible. The approved budget reductions for 2016 result in our actual expenses being very close to the budgeted amount, so the deficit to the budgeted amount is much smaller than in previous years: $68,090 vs $94,889 last year at this time. We will continue to keep you informed as we move through the year. Thank you to those keeping current in your giving. 2015 Total Contributions thru Sept $373,200 Total Pledged Contributions thru Sept $305,255 Total Actual Expenses thru Sept $429,081 Total Budgeted Expenses thru Sept $468,089 2016 $376,589 $301,200 $427,673 $444,679 Sun Oct 16, 2016 8:30am Worship 9:30am Bridge Worship 9:40am Adult Sun School 10am Children's Sunday School 11am Worship 12:15pm Diaconate Meeting 5:30pm All Youth Event See Announcement Mon Oct 17, 2016 9:30am Prayer Group, Parlor 9:30am PW CT Meeting, MR 1pm Cards & Games, MR 6:30pm CES Rehearsal Tue Oct 18, 2016 9am Library Volunteers 12pm Men's Lunch, Ioanni’s 12pm Share & Care, Floyd’s 4:45pm TOPS Meeting, MR 5:30pm Girl Scouts, YR 6pm Tutor, Library 7pm AA, MR MR-Mtg. H First Presbyterian Church S H $ H Did you know that Pruitt Health utilizes volunteers to visit with their patients in a six-county region, which includes Carteret County? These patients may be at home or in a care facility, but they and/or their loved ones all need companionship during this end-of-life phase. While some simply need a friend to play cards with or talk to, others, maybe family sitters and caregivers, may need a period of respite - to get out and eat a meal or even attend a Bible study. If you have a little time to spare and are interested in becoming part of their team, contact Kasi Jones at 252-520-3032 or email her at [email protected]. Training is provided. It's a complicated world, especially for disciples striving to live as Jesus wants us to live. In reality, it was just as crazy in New Testament times. The apostle Paul addresses the issues facing the church and culture in First Corinthians, recognizing this truth: the heartbeat and lifeblood of the Christian life is grace. Come discover a compelling grace leading to compassionate ministry and influential witness. Change of Plans for Sunday!
