Minnie
Water
The delightfully named Minnie Water is a
small coastal village completely surrounded by
Yuraygir National Park. The village is a picture
when the Christmas Bells or the Flannel
Flowers bloom in the surrounding parklands.
Over 120 species of wildflower have been
identified around Minnie Water.
Similarly enclosed smaller villages lie either
side of Minnie Water. The beach is the main
road to Sandon to the north. Diggers Camp
to the south, has a dirt road access from the
Wooli Road. Excellent walking tracks and
camping, secluded beaches and abundant
wildlife are attractions drawing visitors who

Natural charm
There are few places in the World that have
the natural charm of Minnie Water.
Solitary Islands Marine Park
This is one of the first marine national parks in
NSW. It protects the islands, ocean, beaches,
headlands and estuaries in a region where the
warm ocean currents from the tropical north
merge with colder currents from the south.
There is an amazing diversity of marine life,
including hard and soft corals. There are a
variety of zonings to protect the park but all
the popular visitor activities can continue by
having regard for some sensible safeguards.
These tall trees combined with low heath
shrubs provide a habitat for many animals.
Bush walkers may glimpse a brush-tailed
possum, sugar glider, bush rat, red-necked
wallaby or the startling bearded dragons which
abound here. The flowering trees and shrubs
attract a variety of honey and insect eating
birds.
2. Rocky Point Walk
The Rocky Point Walk is a return walk of two
kilometres which crosses a small sand ridge
lying across the headland then winds back
along the foreshore. Behind the point, the
track passes through a community of coastal
banksia. Rocky Point is a low, sand covered
headland fringed by intertidal rock platforms.
It affords excellent views of the surrounding
coastline north to Sandon Beach and Clarence
Peak and south to Minnie Water & Tree Point.
A variety of seabirds may be seen on the
return walk along the foreshore including gulls,
terns, cormorants, oystercatchers and sea
eagles.
Rock platforms
The rock platforms extending seawards to
Rocky Point offer hours of entertainment for
those who enjoy examining the microcosm
of marine life in tidal pools and rock crevices.
Sea urchins, star fish, cunjevoi, coral and a
variety of sponges and shells may be found in
this area.
A brochure on Yuraygir National Park with
maps and visitor information is available
from the National Parks Service or the Visitor
Information Centres in Grafton and Maclean.
