WINGS FOR LIFE CHARITY AUCTION @ EBAY
List of Articles
Article1: A replica of David Coulthard’s Original Formula 1 Race Car from the GP of
England 2007
Details: A piece of racing history created for the activity
of “Faces for Charity”: A replica of David Coulthard’s
Formula 1 race car from Silverstone (GP Britain 2007).
Both Red Bull Racing cars (Mark Webber and David
Coulthard) were involved in this initiative. The design of
one car features about 21.000 small pictures that people
were able to upload for £ 10. A total of one million dollars
was collected through this charity activity donated to
Wings for Life.
The buyer can choose the design of the replica racing car –
delivered without engine: Red Bull Racing or Faces for
Charity
About the athlete: In terms of race wins, ‘DC’ is the
second most successful driver on the grid this year (2008) and the second most experienced in
terms of race starts. This is David’s 15th Formula One season and it’s a sign of his worth that
Red Bull Racing is only his third home in all that time. He spent his first two years with
Williams, following that with a loyal nine years’ service for McLaren. In terms of points
scored, he is the leading British driver in the history of the sport.
The past 14 years have also produced some big numbers: 228 race starts, making him the
fourth most experienced racer of all time, and 527 points scored, a total beaten only by
Schumacher, Prost and Senna. His 13 wins to date put Coulthard 18th in the all-time winners
list. Oh, and he has also produced one autobiography (It Is What It Is, available from all good
bookshops) which shows remarkable restraint compared with other athletes who write their
life story just a year or so after leaving school.
The 2008 season is Coulthard’s fourth with Red Bull Racing and, having been here since Day
One, David is now very much part of its fabric, with a contribution that goes beyond mere
cockpit time. All Coulthard’s F1 wins have come in cars designed by Adrian Newey and
getting to drive another Newey-penned car in 2007 was something David had looked forward
to for some time. Towards the end of the year, there were signs that improved reliability
would allow the car’s performance potential to shine through in 2008.
Coulthard has won the ‘classic’ Grands Prix in Monaco, Britain, Belgium and Italy, but he
singles out his French GP victory in 2000 as his most satisfying, as it was a really hard-fought
win from third on the grid. Words such as ‘veteran’ and ‘elder statesman’ are the lazy
shorthand used to describe David. However, listen to the air turn blue on the car-to-pit radio
or watch the mechanics run for cover as he comes back to the pits when things don’t go to
plan and it’s clear that the fire still burns brightly.
Article 2: KTM Dakar Winner Bike 2007 & Pilot’s equipment
Details: Since 2001 it has always been a KTM bike to win the world’s most notorious rally.
The Austrian factory has dominated the desert race since then. If rally is the essence of
adventure and endurance for both man and machine, the Dakar is the one that sorts the men
from the boys. The classic event began in Lisbon, Portugal on January 6 and finished 15 days
later in Dakar. It was Frenchman Cyril Despres who decided the rally in his favour, the
second time after 2005 and after a hard but fair fight with colleague Marc Coma (ESP).
About the athlete:
Growing up in a family
working in the restaurant
business, it was 13 years old
Cyril to catch the train to
Paris and buy his first
motorbike.
Until the age of 22 he
competed in trials, while
following the Rally Dakar
closely on TV.
He finished his first Dakar on 16th position in 2000, won his first stage in 2001, followed by a
second place and the rally world championship in 2003, and another podium (3rd) in 2004. He
won the famous desert race in 2005 for the first time and after his victory in 2007 is still the
current Dakar winner on a motorbike.
Does Cyril Despres have any personal (friends, …) experiences with spinal cord injury?
Cyril Despres: Sadly yes. Two good friends of mine, Esteve Isidre and Chris Blais suffered
spinal cord injury last year. They are both fighters and have responded incredibly to their
injuries and continue to lead busy and active lives. But that said I am sure they would like the
chance to get out of their wheel chairs and walk again one day.

About the athlete: Every sport has its heroes, those who dominate a certain time period. But
in some cases, there is one name that transcends every era, every discipline, every detail. In
windsurfing, that name is Robby Naish. Not only is Naish the best-known name in
windsurfing – he was also a pioneer of kite boarding and continues to be a leading innovator,
having set a world speed record in 2003.

sports in the process.
Article 5: Red Bull Air Race Package for 2 People in the U.S. incl. Meet & Greet with
World Champion 2007 Mike Mangold (USA)
Details: The Red Bull Air Race World
Series is one of the most exciting
competitions in which the world’s
most talented pilots are up against each
other in a race based on speed,
precision and skill.
What makes the Red Bull Air Race so
exciting and interesting for spectators
is the proximity of the contest to the crowd. Low level flying on a relatively compact course
means that people can really experience all the action close-up. In 2007 there were ten
beautiful locations of the Red Bull Air Race – in 2008 it will be again ten cities and regions –
some of them for the 1st time – to host this spectacular race.
The Red Bull Air Race Package includes
Æ a visit to either San Diego (May 03/04) or Detroit (May 31/June 01) in the US in 2008 for
2 days and 2 people (qualifying and race day)
Æ Accommodation in a 4 star Hotel for two days and two people
Æ Entrance to the hospitality of Red Bull Guest onsite in the “High Flyers Lounge” (both
days for 2 people)
o
receiving the special opportunity to look behind the scenes of Red Bull Air Race
o

the former U.S. Air Force pilot with impeccable credentials. With a name that is recognised
around the world since he won the Red Bull Air Race World Series championship in 2005;
Mike Mangold has been chasing the same goal for the last 51 years: winning.
Mike’s personal statement as Wings for Life ambassador:
Chances are you know someone experiencing paralysis from a spinal cord injury. There are
over 90.000 new survivors every year. Spinal cord injuries are not unique to extreme sports, it
can happen to anyone.
The Wings for Life Foundation is making a difference by providing a forum to share scientific
knowledge and research. Initial results are promising in regards to innovative therapeutic
solutions for central nervous system regeneration, but sustained funding is necessary for
continued progress.
The foundations dedication to achieve a cure is a vision. All successful teams start with a
vision: focus, determination, and financial resources make the vision reality.
Article 6: City-Roundtrip with the spectacular Douglas DC 6B for up to 32 People
Details: This airplane with its terrific history,
its unmistakable retro-design and luxurious
interior is beyond a doubt the crown jewel of
the collection in the Hangar-7 at the Salzburg
Airport. Because of its history, the plane is
known in aviator circles worldwide.
The DC-6B was built in 1958 and belonged to
the Ex-Yugoslavian head of state Marshal
Josip Broz Tito. Restoration of this luxury
plane of started in 2001 at a factory constructed in part for the DC-6. It left the factory in the
summer of 2004, three years and tens of thousand of hours later. The plane received a
completely new and luxurious interior – true to the overall historical concept as far as possible
– four new engines and modern flight electronics.
During the extremely complex restoration work, the airplane was completely dismantled into
individual components and then reassembled. This special airplane is today in better condition
than it ever could have been when new.
The Roundtrip flight in the Douglas DC 6B includes:
Æ take off from Salzburg Airport
Æ for a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 32 people
Æ Roundtrip to one of the following cities (return flight the same day):
o Florence
o Venice
o Zurich
o Berlin
o Verona
Æ Duration of stay in the city after individual arrangement between Flying Bulls and buyer
Article 7: City-Roundtrip with the Unique North American B-25J MITCHELL for 5
People
Details: With its cool retro look, the gleaming
silver Mitchell is a very special highlight, even in
the Flying Bulls valuable collection. Built in
Kansas City in 1945, it shared the good fortune of
the Corsair in never having to fly off to war.
In 1994 it was discovered and purchased by Sigi
Angerer, later to become the Flying Bulls’ chief
pilot. There was lots of work to be done, since the
Mitchell was not at all in good shape. First it got a
complete overhaul in the US: it was restored and converted into a civilian version with a
comfortable interior. By September 1997 the work had been completed to the point that the
Mitchell was ready to undertake the flight to Europe across the North Atlantic. At the
beginning of 2001, the aircraft was moved to Salzburg Airport.
Now the Mitchell cuts a good figure, whether serving as a photographic model at Hangar-7 or
taking part in one of the many great air shows in which it flies.
The Roundtrip flight in B 25 includes:
Æ take off from Salzburg Airport
Æ for a maximum of 5 people
Æ Roundtrip to one of the following cities (return flight the same day):
o Florence
o Venice
o Zurich
o Berlin

the Drachenwand in Mondsee, AUT. The picture shows the Austrian jumping off a certain
point of the 360 metres high rock, which has become a favourite training place.

About the athlete: Like a real-life James Bond, in the past seven years the 38-year old
Austrian has not only set milestones in skydiving, but more specifically in BASE jumping,
which is prohibited in most countries, but added cinematic dimensions to this extreme sport.
His biggest achievement came in 2003 when he soared across the English Channel with
carbon wings strapped to his back -- a device being tested by various military forces around
the world.
The world’s currently highest architectural building – the
Taipei 101 – was Felix Baumgartner’s latest conquest in
December 2007.
Felix’ personal statement as Wings for Life ambassador:
When my friend Heinz Kinigadner told me about Wings for
Life I knew straight away that I wanted to commit myself to
this foundation. I know that I can fully trust him, and this is
essential for me.
I am conscious that spinal cord injuries can affect anybody
without distinction of age, nationality or social condition – not
only extreme athletes. I felt that I had to put my fame at the
service of this project in order to increase its visibility and
popularity.
This will be one of my contributions to Wings for Life.

Gisela Pulido’s status as an exceptional sportsperson is now also officially recognized: On
November 8 the 13-year-old Spaniard, reigning PKRA World Champion, was honoured with
an entry in the Guinness Book of Records: The world’s youngest kite surfing champion; the

About the athlete: The all-around
adventurer Hannes Arch is not only a Red
Bull Air Race pilot but also a B.A.S.E
jumper, Mountaineer and Paragliding
pilot. Hannes Arch’s
motto is: “Respect, accept, and always
stay grounded.” But
staying grounded is easier said than done considering the Austrian-born athlete has made his
career by climbing the world’s highest mountains, jumping off the tallest buildings, and
performing gravity defying aerobatic manoeuvres hundreds of feet above ground.
Hannes Arch is not only an athlete but also has started his own production and stunt
coordination company, Airpro GmbH. Specializing in aerial film and TV production, the
company quickly attracted a roster of high profile clients, including renowned fashion
designer and filmmaker Willy Bogner. Hannes Arch also made his mark on the paragliding
scene by organizing a gruelling international competition, known as the Red Bull X-Alps. The
competition challenges the world’s most elite paragliding pilots to cross the Alps from Austria
to Monaco entirely by air or foot in a race against the clock. The event quickly gained the
reputation as one of the world’s toughest adventure races.
Hannes Arch’s personal statement as Wings for Life ambassador:
As an extreme athlete I recognize a lot of analogies between my work ethic and those of
Wings for Life. Based on an ambitious dream one wants to reach a great goal through hard
work and a lot of dedication.
When I was a kid, I was full of dreams. Still today I am full of dreams and I am thankful for
making my wishes come true. I have been fortunate that I’ve never had a serious accident up
to now. But it could also happen to me that one day the bad luck catches up.
Dreams are important to everybody and by the support of Wings for Life I would like to offer
people with spinal cord injuries the chance to dream of a future without a wheelchair.
In order that research can move fast forward and the wish of a life without a wheelchair can
become reality, private initiatives are required. As an ambassador of Wings for Life I want to
address the importance for action to every single person.

On a family holiday to Torquay, Polakow discovered surfing, and eventually windsurfing. He
gravitated toward the freestyle aspects of waveriding, and naturally, he dominated. At 12, he
was the Junior Wavesailing State Champ. At 15, he was on the cover of the February issue of
Sailboard Magazine. At 18, he became the top Australian Wavesailer, and headed off to the

Why does Jason Polakow think people should spend money at the Wings for Life

It’s for a great cause that can help many people to achieve their dream of being able to
someday walk again. Research has come such a long way since the “ Wings for Life “
foundation was established and now finding a cure is closer than ever before. I personally met
one of the doctors leading this research, and he was just so passionate about what he does, you
know that sometime soon he and his team will have a cure. I have no doubt of that after
meeting him! Imagine telling someone that tomorrow you can start learning how to walk

About the athlete: Marc Coma,
motorbike rider
from his youngest years, had racing
background at
home. Both his father and his uncle were big fans and it finally went over to little Marc. The
first bike he rode was a Montesa Cota 348 under the guidance of his uncle and at the age of
eight. In 1995, Coma became Spanish Junior Champion in the Over 175cc class on a 250cc
KTM. After that title, Marc joined the National Enduro Team and got the silver medal at the
Enduro World Championship of the following year. That result was followed by several other
brilliant results in the years to come.
At the young age of 28 years, the Spaniard became a reference rider in raids. The experience
and maturity he has gathered helped him to face his main target with guarantees: the 2006
Dakar Rally, where arrived in top personal and physical shape. He did not take any stage win,
but his masterly, and at the same time safe and weighed-up riding style, took him finally to
become the winner of the Dakar Rally in its 28th edition, thus making one of his biggest
dreams come true. Coma is the second Spanish rider to make it, after Nani Roma, his teammate at that time, who made it in 2004.

Motocross. He boasts three years competing in the World MX1 Championship where his

clothing for the
Dakar rally in
2007.
Size: XL
About the athlete: The passion
for competition and an almost
indestructible will mark the
character of a singular rider.
Joan Roma, Nani for his friends,
was born in Vic on February 17, 1972 and after a short visit on soccer grounds, where an
impressive goalkeeper was lost, he discovered his love for motorbikes. He entered his first
race forging a friend’s license. He won that race and since then he has recorded impressive
results, although there was something missing on that list: the jewel of the crown, winning the
Dakar, what he finally managed to do in 2004. Roma has taken a place in the heart of many
fans. He took over from Jordi Arcarons and the Dakar wouldn’t be the same without him.
With the passage of years, dash gives way to experience and after participating in seven
editions of the Dakar in the motorbike class, Roma faced a new challenge taking part in the
2005 edition in the car class at the wheel of a Mitsubishi.
Maybe we will be able to watch him again at the Dakar Series 2008, coming up this April.

Liuzzi during the last season. It is personalized and signed.
About the athlete: During 2002 Tonio contested the
German Formula 3 Championship and established his
reputation as one of the quickest drivers in the
Championship. Three pole positions, three podiums and a
dominant pole to flag victory in the San Marino
International Formula 3 race at Imola, displayed his true
potential. Even so 2002 did not meet expectation as
friction within the team was a new problem for Tonio to
deal with. In 2003 Tonio contested the FIA F3000
International Championship with Coloni Motorsport,
emerging as the top rookie. He took pole in Hungary after
only nine laps on the circuit, with a margin of 0.471 over
the second qualifier, but victory eluded him with a pit stop
problem when a wheel nut jammed. He finished fourth in the championship. His 2003
performances earned him the lead drive with 2003 F3000 Champion team Arden
International. The 2004 F3000 International Championship proved Tonio’s potential. Taking
seven wins from a total of ten starts, including nine pole positions, Tonio stormed to the
championship. The Italian holds the joint all-time record for F3000 wins along with Juan
Pablo Montoya and Nick Heidfeld.
The successful F3000 seasons allowed him to enter the most desired Formula, the Formula
One. After three years at the Scuderia Toro Rosso, Tonio Liuzzi is test driver at Force India in
the 2008 season.

talent Chris Moeckli has become European Champion in motocross twice despite broken
bones. He is the embodiment of toughness and always stays on the fast lane. His competitors
are used to queue behind his back wheel.
Currently, Chris is preparing himself for the upcoming season. When the 30-year-old is not
riding his bike or recovering from his meanwhile habitual falls which are inevitable in this
sport, he likes to eat pasta and to give himself wings by drinking Red Bull.
Article 28: Helmet from Evelyne Leu
(2006 Olympic Winner - Freestyle Skiing)
Details: The reigning Olympic Champion in freestyle skiing,
Evelyne Leu from Switzerland, wore this helmet in various
competitions.
About the athlete: “Go big or go
home”, is Evelyne’s philosophy of
life. The young Swiss lady takes
people’s breath away when she
performs. The 31 year-old ski
acrobat is not only ambitious, but
also very successful. Being first
place at every
world cup since 2005, she holds several champion titles and is almost at every race at the
podium – be it the European championships, the world championships or the overall world
cup. Evelyne was winner of the Olympic Games in 2006 in Torino. She is in the national team
Swiss ski squad. Evelyne has remained a calm character – despite her glory - who enjoys most
being together with her family and friends. Her greatest motivation are competitions. These
challenges propel her most.
Article 29: Ice Axe & Helmet from Urs Odermatt
Details: The ice axes as well as the helmet have been used
for some of Urs’ breathtaking adventure tours on icy
underground and have saved his live. Tested and signed by
the Swiss expert.
What does this item
mean to Urs Odermatt
personally?
I have a strong relation
especially to the helmet.
It saved my life during an
incredible fall. I have
thought about it a long
time before I decided to
donate it for Wings for
Life.
About the athlete: The
primary
chemical laboratory
worker from
Switzerland has never really worked in his profession – his passions are the mountains. And
by fully dedicating himself to his life’s dream, he self-actualizes himself in ice-climbing. Urs
loves his dangerous sports, and proves his talent at many climbing competitions. His one and
only target is to win. But Urs is aware that he is jeopardized when climbing in the mountains:
In March 2005, he tumbled down a strut of 30 meters height – and as if by a miracle he
survived almost unhurt.
Article 30: Moto GP Helmet from Dani Pedrosa
Details: The helmet from Dani Pedrosa, runner up in
the Moto GP world championship of the 2007 season.
Tested and signed by the Spaniard.
About the athlete: The first time Daniel Pedrosa got
on a motorbike was at the age of four and his machine,
motocross Italjet 50, had side-wheels. At the age of six,
Dani began racing on minibikes. His first pocket bike
was a miniature copy of a street Kawasaki. Other bikes
followed; circuits and races with friends, always for fun and not even imagining what was yet
to come.
Dani Pedrosa is now residing in London. Among his hobbies are bicycle riding, something he
still enjoys a lot, as well as supermotard, motocross or trial. Outside the world of sports he
enjoys going to the movies or spending time with friends. Sometimes he joins them at the
disco, but he prefers to amuse himself playing computer games, because, as Dani says those
with motorbikes and cars are very realistic, the behaviour of the bike is very similar to that of
a real one. A curious fact: Dani learned the circuits on which he races now by heart watching
videotapes of 500cc races with Rainey or Lawson. However, his favourite rider has always
been Mick Doohan.

About the athlete: Take the boy out of
Owensboro and he misses his mother’s cooking.
But, take the boy to the racetrack and he doesn’t
miss a thing. If there’s anything that Nicky
Hayden, “The Kentucky Kid,” pines for more
than American comfort food, it’s success in
motorcycle racing – and he’s happily sacrificing
his taste buds in the name of world dominance.

Martin Tomczyk’s personal statement as Wings for Life ambassador:
Do you know how much it would mean to a paralyzed person to be able to move the foot, the
arm or just the forefinger?!
Therefore, being an ambassador of the Wings for Life foundation is something really special
to me: to find future ways and means to make the greatest wish of every paralyzed person
come true – to stand on one’s own feet again, to regain some the body functions or to move
freely.
Wings for Life is a private initiative and therefore dependent on your donation. All the
donations go directly into research in order to make one day the most natural thing possible to
approximately 2.7 million people!
As an athlete I am very often confronted with the consequences of spinal cord injuries, even
though only 2% of all paraplegias come from professional-/ extreme sports. More than half of
the spinal cord injuries follow from accidents which happened in the road traffic or even from
falls – areas which affect each of us.
Think about it…

of the audience at the Classic Car Expo in
Salzburg 2007.
Theme: 60th birthday of Ferrari.

Article 36: Original, Signed Pair of HEAD Race Skis from Hermann Maier
Details: “SG Racing Ski - SG 210 w plate
Racing” – this pair of skis helped Wings for
Life ambassador Hermann Maier to conquer
the podium again finishing 2nd in the Super G
at the Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel 2008.
About the athlete: Hermann Maier (born
December 7, 1972, Altenmarkt) is an Austrian
skier who has won four overall World Cup
titles (1998, 2000, 2001, 2004), two Olympic gold medals (both in 1998), three World
Championship titles (1999: 2, 2005: 1) and 53 races in the World Cup. He ranks among the
likes of Jean-Claude Killy, Ingemar Stenmark, Toni Sailer, Alberto Tomba, Kjetil André
Aamodt and Franz Klammer as one of the best exponents of the sport.
Maier did not initially enjoy much success in skiing. As a 15-year old at the Schladming ski
academy, he was sent home after being told he wouldn't make it because of his slight build
caused by growth impairments. He returned home to his father's ski school in Flachau, which
is still Maier's hometown. He took up work as a bricklayer in the summer and a ski instructor
in the winter.
Article 37: Axel Naglich’s FISCHER Skis from the Expedition to Mt. St. Elias 2007
Details: This pair of skis has been tested on the world’s longest ski descent – from the top of
5.490m high Mt. St. Elias in Alaska down to sea level. A 35 kilometres long descent, only
possible on this single
mountain and
done by some of the world’s
best and
bravest ski alpinists; lead by
the Austrian
Axel Naglich.
Model: FISCHER Watea 101
Length: 192cm
About the athlete: Maybe it
was growing up next to the
Streif, Austria’s infamous
world cup ski run, that
impaired Axel Naglich’s judgment for adversity. On
skis by age 2, hang-gliding at 16 and today racing
Ironman as a hobby, in his spare time Naglich
scouts the world’s highest and most daunting peaks
for potential ski lines.
Unbeknownst to his disapproving parents, Naglich
started ski racing at 16 in order to gain enough
experience to forerun World Cup races in
Kitzbühel. He went on to race the gruelling 24
Hours of Aspen five times, winning in 1993, 1996
and 1997.
Naglich competed in the Red Bull Snowthrill in Chamonix, France, then the biggest freeski
event in Europe, in 1998. The following year, he won the biggest air category, but was
disqualified for losing a ski mid-flight and continuing on a single ski. He competed twice in
the X-Games, both races resulting in serious crashes, before turning his attention to loftier
goals in the pursuit of pushing free skiing’s limits.
Article 38: Helmet from Ski Jumper Adam
Malysz (POL)
Details: Manifold world champion in ski jumping
and national hero Adam Malysz from Poland wore
this helmet in this season’s world cups, signed it and will hand it over personally.
Size: XS
About the athlete: At the age of 15, Adam (born on December 3, 1977 in Wisla/Poland)
started his international ski-jump career – and after his unexpected successes in 2001 he
became a folk hero in Poland. The meanwhile 31-year-old has promoted to the sports-elite by
holding 4 single-world champion titles and 4 world cup overall winner titles.
Thank goodness the most successful polish winter sportsman in history doesn’t feel like ever
reverting to his original profession – because there are not as many great ski-jumpers as
roofers…
Article 39: Helmet from Ski Jumper Thomas Morgenstern (AUT)
Details: This helmet has been worn and signed by double Olympic Champion & world cup
overall winner 2008 Thomas Morgenstern from Austria.
About the athlete: Thomas Morgenstern was born
on October 30th, 1986, in Carinthia (AUT). When
he was ten years old the young Austrian made his
first experience with ski jumping. Soon his „sense
of flight“ was obvious, so the goal of becoming a
great ski jumper grew in Morgi’s mind. With 15 he
spent nearly all of his spare time with training. The
result was amazing: After having dominated the
junior class for years, he won his first world cup in
Liberec with 16 years. The greatest success in his
young career was his double-victory (single and
team) during the Olympic Winter Games in Turin
2006. What will follow is not a continuation: Those
who know Morgi can tell that he is always reaching
for the brightest light – which is, in the current
season, the first place in the final world cup ranking.
Article 40: X Games 2008 Helmet from Shaun White (USA)
Details: Shaun’s helmet with which he won his
latest X-Games gold medal in the super pipe
event.

every kid can only
dream of becoming one of the best pro
snowboarders in the
world and one of the talented vert skaters in recent memory.
He gained a multitude of titles, amongst others the Olympic champion title in halfpipe in
2006. Shaun is the first man who won the Slopestyle competition 4 times at the X Games and
the first athlete to compete in the Winter and Summer X Games in 2 different sports, namely
in skateboarding and snowboarding.
Shaun’s nicknames are “Future Boy”, “The Flying Tomato” and “The Egg” and he is not only
an outstanding sportsman, but also an average teenager who loves to ride, skate, surf and hang
out.
Article 41: Freeride Helmet from Free Skier Chris Davenport (USA) & his Book “Ski
the 14ers”
Details: This GIRO helmet has been worn by Chris Davenport during one of his exceptional
free ride adventure tours through the Rocky Mountains. The book “Ski the 14ers” has been
signed by Chris and shows his exceptional talent on skies in pictures.
About the athlete: Chris Davenport of Aspen/Colorado is
considered one of the world’s most accomplished big
mountain skiers. A former alpine downhill racer, Chris made
his mark in the freeskiing community when he won the 1996
World Extreme Skiing Championships in Alaska.
In 2000, he landed on the podium in each Freeskiing World
Tour event he participated in.
He had featured articles and photographs in several
publications such as the renowned Sports Illustrated.
Chris is known globally as one of the icons of the sport of
skiing.
Article 42 & 48: Skateboard Deck from Ryan Sheckler (USA)
Details: Personalized skateboard deck signed by
the US American exceptional skater Ryan Sheckler.
When he visited the Red Bull headquarters in
Fuschl, he personally handed the board over to
Wings for Life ambassador Tarek Rasouli.
About the athlete: Ryan was born in California in
1989 and discovered his passion for skateboarding
quite early: At the age of 18 months (!), he found
his dad’s old school skateboard and taught himself
to push it around by using one knee, and eventually stood up on the skateboard.
Since the age of 6, he spent up to 22 hours a week practicing tricks in his backyard, developed
even his own trick called the “Sheck-lair”, an indy kickflip flyout.
After winning the X Games, Gravity Games, Slam City Jam and Vans Triple Crown, he
turned professional in 2003.
His other passion is cars, but Ryan also enjoys surfing, wakeboarding, snowboarding and
swimming. Ryan is the star of the MTV reality show “Life of Ryan”.
Article 43: Surfboard Sofia Mulanovich (PER)
Details: Approved and signed surfboard from the Peruvian world class surfer Sofia
Mulanovich.
The board:

Design: flyer f
Brand /Fabric: all merrick
What does the exhibit mean to Sofia
personally?
It is a good board and one of those I have
used in the World Championship Tour and it
will help healing spinal cord injury!
About the athlete: Sofia is an attraction wherever she goes. She is often chased by
journalists’ cameras from all over the world, just like a Hollywood star. But of course, this
girl has become an icon in the world’s surfing scene, making this sport famous in many
places. She started like any other daughter born in a surfer’s family, but Sofia’s talent and
perseverance have made her a recognized champion in the world and, of course, by the
Peruvian people.

adding a small motorcycle engine.
After 17 years of Forumla 1 racing, Schumacher holds
many records in Formula One, including most drivers'

Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Doornbos' first sport was tennis, and he competed at semiprofessional national level in the Netherlands. His interest in motor sport grew after he was
invited to the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix as a guest of WilliamsF1.
Why does Robert Doornbos think people should spend money at the Wings for Life
Charity Auction?
It’s an exclusive opportunity for anyone to get their hands on some truly extraordinary
exhibits, but most important of course, to support the Wings for Life Foundation and raise the
hope of many people suffering from spinal cord injuries!
Record of achievements:

Article 47: Race Suit & Helmet from VW Team Pilot Carlos Sainz
Details: The world champion helmet of
Carlos Sainz and his race suit are both
personalized and signed.
What does this item mean to Carlos
personally?
Both, the helmet and the overall are two very
important personal things for a rally driver.
Of course it means a lot for any driver; in this
case, with this helmet and overall I have won
the World Championship for Cross Country.
About the athlete: Sainz, known as "El Matador” by his fans, looks back on a peerless career
in the World Rally Championship: He led the all-time WRC winners list with 26 victories till
the middle of 2006, finished the World Championship eleven times in the top-three, two
World Championship titles distinguish his career. The Spaniard took a cockpit in cross
country rallying afterwards. In his first "Dakar” in 2006 he took four stage victories, and in
2007 he led the rally for four days. He finally made the break through in off-road sport by
winning the 2007 FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup. In Michel Périn, the most successful
navigator in cross country rallying, Sainz found the ideal co-driver. "He stays cool even in
difficult situations, and works precisely and highly concentrated,” says the co-driver of his
driver’s character.
Carlos Sainz has had a soft spot for every type of sport since his early teens: He was Spanish
Squash Champion at 16 years of age and played football successfully before electing to
concentrate on motorsport. In his hometown Madrid, where he lives with his wife Reyes and
children Carlos, Blanca and Anna, he is involved with the Real Madrid football club, plays
tennis in his free time and likes to go hunting. His interests have recently been captured by the
young carting career of son Carlos. Sainz also runs a kart centre in the Spanish capital.

dates back to 2002, when Speed won the Red Bull Driver Search, a program aimed at putting
an American talent into Formula One. With Red Bull backing, Speed raced his way through
the European ranks and into a full-time seat in 2006 at Red Bull Racing’s sister team,

ready to wear.
About the Athlete: “To become a
professional racing
driver was the best decision of my life. I
just should have
made it earlier,” explains Mark Miller. In
his youth he
actually sacrificed a promising career in

now traces the path
in reverse: The investment manager
withdrew from the
business to concentrate solely on his
motorsport
activities. Miller’s strength: He is onehundred per cent
committed; for example he undertakes an
intensive fitness
programme. His mental strength helps
him to concentrate
but stay relaxed at the same time: "One of
my plus points is
that I don’t target any unrealistic goals
and in doing so
don’t put myself unnecessarily under
pressure.”
Miller, who is one of the few US Americans to start the Dakar Rally, is regarded as a multitalent. In 1979, he competed in the SCORE Off-road Challenge for the first time on a

Open Division and winning Rookie of the Year. In 2004, Millen
partnered with Pontiac to enter the first US Drift series, Formula Drift. He won the Formula

What does this item mean to Rhys Millen personally?
With respect to my recent injury I have had the chance to reflect on what “Wings For life”
truly is about. Knowing how close I came to having paralysis, waking up every morning
wiggling my fingers and toes, places you in a position to respect your body and how lucky
you are to have full use of it. Your body and mind are the greatest gifts of all, respect them,
do not be afraid to use them to there full potential.
Article 53: Original KTM Supermoto Team Shirt from Bernd Hiemer
Details: Bernd Hiemer’s official team shirt in
KTM colours. The supermoto world champion
from 2006 signed this shirt.
About the athlete: Winning eight heats and five
Grand Prix, Bernd Hiemer dominated the S1 class
of the FIM Supermoto World Championship in
the year 2006. It was a successful year for the 25
year old German from Leutkirch, and the many
battles with the Husqvarna and Aprilia rivals
gave further importance to Asphalt Surfer’s
achievements. Successful does not mean easy, and it was surely not easy for Hiemer. With
VDB moving to the S2 class, the German’s plan of beating the Supermoto Champion changed
into beating three top riders: defending Champion Gerald Delepine and his team mate Ivan
Lazzarini, and Aprilia’s Christian Iddon. Finishing 4th in the last season, 2008 shall again
become a year of triumph and success.
For Bernd the Supermoto season starts March 29 with the first race of the Italian
Championship.
Article 54: Race Suit from VW Team Driver Giniel de Villiers
Details: The official VW team race suit was made for the South
African Giniel de Villiers personally. It is signed and ready to
wear.
About the Athlete: "I’ve loved motorsport ever since I was a
small child. I had my own kart when I was four years old. Racing
is in my blood,” believes Giniel de Villiers. The South African
was a successful touring car driver before starting his career in
cross country rallying. After winning five touring car titles in his
homeland – four of them in succession – he took up an entirely
new challenge: For the 2000 season he jumped from the level
tarmac of circuit racing to the rough tracks of cross country.
Brilliantly: Only one year later he won his first national title in
off-road racing.
de Villiers celebrated the greatest result to date for the
Volkswagen Race Touareg 2 after finishing second in the 2006
Dakar Rally. He recorded four stage victories during the 2007 "Dakar”. "In desert rallies you
have to overcome new challenges on a daily basis, be very flexible and stay concentrated to
the very last metre – and this is what I love.”
"Ginny” is permanently on the move in his free time: "I’m an outdoor person. I like to spend
my time kite surfing, playing golf or riding my motorbike.” A further interest is the property
business: de Villiers occasionally works in the family business in the Winelands close to Cape
Town.
