Asweallknow,standardizedtreatmentprotocolsandclinicalguidelinesaresorely lackingforpediatricskindisorders,includingsomeconditionsthataretrulylife threatening.Yetrecruitingchildrenforstudiesischallengingandprojectsareoften underpowered,especiallywithrarediseases. Withthisreality,pediatricdermatologyleadersrecognizedthatinvestigationscannot beconductedwithoutcollaborativeefforts.ThusPeDRAwasconceivedasaresearch networkin2012andwehaven’tlookedbacksince.Nowwithnearly230investigators partneringtoconduct57studiesspanningseveraldiseaseareas,PeDRAisbeginning topositivelyimpactthelivesofchildrenwholivewithdifficultandlife-altering dermatologicdiseasesandconditions. Thisconferenceistheonlymeetingvenuethatspecificallyaimstofostermulticenter studiesinallmajorareasofpediatricdermatology.Themeetingprovidesthe opportunitytolearnaboutandjoinqualitystudiesandprotocolsdevelopedby experiencedinvestigators.Thesepartnershipshelpindividualresearchers“gaintheir footing”andenablepatientstoaccessstudiesthatotherwisewouldbedifficult.
