KnowInG Final Congress is the closure of the European Project “Knowledge Intelligence and Innovation for a
sustainable Growth - KnowInG”. The
Congress aims to boost creativity and
innovation as drivers of the “Knowledge
Economy”.
“System of Excellence” aims at
showing, through the communication
and information activities of KnowInG
project, the presence at Mediterranean
level of artists of craft which can join
the Mediterranean traditions with the
creativity and the technological innovation.
The event consists in the participation
of enterprises of project partners’ region selected focused on interior design and fashion gift design, creative,
innovative and artistic craft products
(textile and goldsmith products, ceramic, fashion accessories, ect.).
Nobody doubts the economic importance of design for
the benefit of corporate strategies based on product value, marketing, differentiation, and brand value, where
design has played an essential role improving the communication abilities of businesses and institutions.
There have been endless emotional barriers and few
investment opportunities in design. Those impediments
can be overcome with an open discussion, sustainable
work groups (for example, sharing business), and developing economies where the design indicator takes
place as a source of innovation, ahead of more complex and economically harsh systems, like Big Business
does.
The EU (European Union) needs to develop innovation policies, and more to the point, their weaker economies. Investments don’t need to be immense, like in
some leves of I+D, because we now know that innovation does not necessarily mean technology. We must
stand by design as a foundation for innovation, as it
has been proven before.
There are no formulas to free design from its chains, to
identify its opportunities within a business. It is the objectives, their values and the associated criteria of the
brand, its products and services the ones that determine the right opportunities, and the design resources to
achieve them.

Raul Lauri is the creator of “decafé”, a new patented material,
obtained from the rests of used coffee.
¿Why coffee?
Raul Lauri thinks about the daily waste and seeks new ways
of reutilizing it. In this case, he has chosen coffee because it is
a close, known and widely consumed product, it is the second
most traded commodity in the world. Moreover, coffee is the
bearer of experiences, every day thousands of stories happen
around a cup of coffee, so why throw away such a precious product if we can still use its emotional values?
¿How can we do that?
This new material was obtained after a long experimental process, patience and enthusiasm, “faith in what you do gives you
the necessary strength to achieve your goals” - says Raul.
We have developed this material experimenting with some
traditional culinary techniques. The process is simple, take
advantage of the coffee left over by adding natural agglutinant,
pressure and temperature to obtain the necessary consistency
for numerous application. Today “decafé” is patented and the
“recipe” is a secret, but come and discover yourself the sensations of “decafé”
