©Doll Tag Clothing – Sew Basic Play Skirt – 13 – 14 inch dolls 1 ©Doll Tag Clothing – Sew Basic Play Skirt – 13 – 14 inch dolls 2 GETTING STARTED Doll Model Size This tutorial is designed for 12 – 14 inch dolls like: Heart 4 Heart Girls Corolle les Cheries Mine to Love by Melissa and Doug Today’s Girl by Peterkin Disney Toddler (12 - 14 inch)(Not Animator Dolls) Betsy McCall by Tonner Little Sister Doll by Argo’s Designa Friend (UK) Paolo Reina - 12.5” by Paolo Reina Groovy Girls by Manhattan Toy Company (Soft body) Hearts for Hearts Les Cheries Mine to Love Todays’ Girl by Peterkin Disney’s Toddler Princess - 14” Disney’s First Princess – 12” Fabric Guide Light to medium weight woven fabric – Quilters Cotton, Cotton, polycotton or Linen You will need Fabric – Remnants – 4” x 12” or half a Fat Quarter Matching Thread Narrow 1/4” wide elastic – 5 – 6” long Cut the fabric From your fabric cut 1 rectangle measuring – 4” x 12”. You can use a quilter’s ruler to help you with this. Measure and draw the shape on your fabric and cut out. ©Doll Tag Clothing – Sew Basic Play Skirt – 13 – 14 inch dolls 3 SEWING INSTRUCTIONS Seam allowance - Sew a ¼” seam unless otherwise stated. “Finish off the seam” – This is to prevent fraying. If you do not have a serger, then use an overlock or zigzag stitch on your machine. Fray check can also be used. A nice zigzag to use on your machine: Set stitch length 2 and stitch width 2. “Finish off the seam” for 2 layers - Trim the seam slightly and zigzag. START SEWING 1. Finish off both long edges with a serger or zigzag stitch. 2. Hem the skirt - Fold the bottom edge of the skirt over 1/4" (7mm). Sew on the edge. 3. Sew the elastic casing - Fold over the top edge to the inside 1/2” (12mm). Sew on the edge. ©Doll Tag Clothing – Sew Basic Play Skirt – 13 – 14 inch dolls 4 4. Cut a length of elastic 5.5” long. Insert the elastic and pin into position at both openings. Let the elastic stick out slightly so that you can see and can easily sew it down with a zigzag stitch. 5. With right sides together sew the back seam of the skirt. Finish off the seam with a zigzag stitch or serger. 6. Turn the skirt right side out. Yippee! Your skirt is now complete!
