Seventh Sunday of Easter - Jesus is the perfect steward — watching carefully over all who have been entrusted to Him by the Father and then sending them all out into the world in service. May I similarly protect and wisely use the gifts entrusted to me! Dear Parishioners, On this Solemn Feast of the Ascension, we continue the Spirit of Joy in celebrating where Christ our Lord has gone, we hope to follow! We especially want to congratulate all our high school youth who were confirmed by Bishop Salazar this past Saturday. All of you make us very proud, and we pray that the Spirit of the Lord continues to work in you and through you. A special Thanks to Gabriel Reyes and to all the members of the Confirmation Team for all their efforts. Next Sunday, Pentecost!! Come Holy Spirit! To celebrate the feast lots of people wear the color red! Come ready to celebrate the fire of God’s love among us. Devotedly Yours In Christ, Fr. This Week: Saturday, May 16th/Sunday, May 17th The Solemn Feast of the Ascension of the Lord Reflections on Today’s Readings: FOCUS: We are joined with the Apostles when we give witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As the Risen Lord is about to Ascend to His Father, He gives His disciples the mission of preaching the Gospel to the whole world. He also promises them the gift of the Holy Spirit to help them carry out the mission. By virtue of our Baptism, we are given a share in this mission to give witness to the Gospel by all we say and do in our daily lives. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, the writer of the Acts of the Apostles recounts the details of the Ascension of Jesus Christ into Heaven. Saint Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians begins with an invocation that the Ephesians may be blessed with wisdom, bringing them knowledge to God. The Gospel gives an account of the Ascension and prepares a setting for Pentecost and the mission of the Apostles. The reading makes clear that the mission of the Apostles was to proclaim the Gospel to every creature. Registration form is available at: http://www.st-anastasia.org/sacraments/religious-education/2015vbsregistrationform/ Kids need to know how to protect themselves at home We consider our homes to be safe places for our children. But being home alone can pose risks for children. Here are a few tips to teach kids that will help keep them safe when you are not with them at home: 1. Never answer the door if alone. 2. Do not invite anyone in the house without the permission of a parent or babysitter. 3. Write important phone numbers on a list in case of an emergency. For more tips visit: http://www.ncpc.org/topics/violent- crime-and-personal-safety/copy_of_home-alone FACT OF LIFE A CULTURE OF LIFE BELIEVES… • Every person ever created has infinite dignity from the moment of conception through death because each person is created in the image and likeness of God. This dignity cannot be taken away or diminished regardless of disability, infirmity or illness. • A person, no matter how great his or her need, is never a burden. It is our obligation, as members of the human community, to care for those most in need. We take on this obligation willingly, understanding that what we do for the least person we do for Christ. “ The quality of a society … is judged by how it treats elderly people and by the place it gives them in community life.” - Pope Francis • Providing care for someone at the end of life is a requirement of human dignity. Care includes nutrition and hydration (food and water, even when provided through feeding tubes or other medical assistance, unless it becomes burdensome), cleanliness, warmth, and prevention of complications from confinement to bed. TAKE ACTION NOW! New Eucharistic Ministers Needed - From a current Eucharistic Minister: “Being an Eucharistic Minister makes me feel more like a part of the St. A's community. It is a great way to get to know the priests and other people in the Church that you might not meet otherwise. It also gives me even more appreciation for the Eucharist and what it means in my life, a stronger connection with Jesus.” If you are interested in finding a satisfying ministry that allows you to serve the Lord and your fellow parishioners, consider becoming an Eucharistic Minister. There will be a training class for new Eucharistic Ministers on Thursday, May 21st at 7:30 P.M. in the Church. Please contact Jan & Herb Masi at 310.641.2819 or [email protected] . Mark 16:19 When I was little, I pictured Jesus lifted up to heaven like a rocket, in a cloud of smoke. Of course, it probably didn’t happen that way—it was much more awesome! For one thing, Jesus Ascended through the power of God. That’s mightier than any rocket. And unlike a rocket that takes off and leaves the earth, Jesus went to His Father in Heaven, but He’s still with us, even today. Hard to believe? Remember that with God, everything is possible. Risen Jesus, I know that no matter what happens, you’re always at my side. St. Anastasia Catholic Church 7390 W.
