The Music in a Great Space concert series kicks off its
22nd season by welcoming Philadelphia-based Lyric Fest to
Pittsburgh for an afternoon of Italian arias and art songs,
performed by soprano Jen Aylmer, mezzo-soprano Suzanne
DuPlantis, tenor Eric Rieger, bass Randall Scarlata, and pianist
Laura Ward.

Utilizing Shadyside’s two organs — a four-manual Reuter in the
chancel and a two-manual Moeller in the gallery — duo organists
John Cummins and Michael Messina will present an afternoon
of music written for two organs (Calvin Hampton’s Alexander
Variations and Stephen Paulus’ Paean), organ and piano (Leo
Sowerby’s Dialogue), and solo organ (George Frideric Handel
and Felix Mendelssohn).

A native of Puerto Rico, Jose Ramos Santana is one of the
most acclaimed pianists of his generation. He performs a
wide and diverse repertoire while being an acknowledged
master of Spanish music. Mr. Ramos Santana has appeared
as a guest soloist with such major orchestras as the
New York Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of
London, Detroit Symphony, Saint Louis Symphony, Baltimore
Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic,
92nd Street Y Orchestra, the New York Virtuosi, Casals Festival
Orchestra, Puerto Rico Symphony, and the orchestras of New
Mexico, Sioux City, Utah, and Syracuse, among many others.

Season Subscription Prices
The Symphony No. 3 in C minor, op. 78, was completed by Camille
Saint-Saëns in 1886 at what was probably the artistic zenith of
his career. Saint-Saëns inscribed it as: Symphonie No. 3 “avec
orgue” (with organ). The Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra
returns to Shadyside Presbyterian Church to perform this piece,
along with Death and Transfiguration, by Richard Strauss, under
the direction of conductor Lawrence Loh and accompanied by
organist Mark A. Anderson.

The members of Trio Nova Mundi span the Americas in their
musical training and heritage. The trio strives to embrace
this heritage by showcasing the music and composers of the
New World, in part by performing new or lesser-known works
alongside the classics. Comprised of violinist Maureen Conlon
Gutierrez, cellist Elisa Kohanski, and pianist Becky Billock, Trio
Nova Mundi has received
glowing reviews in BBC Music
Magazine and Fanfare. Since
its inception in 2001, the trio
has been heard in concert
and with regional orchestras
in the United States, Mexico,
Ecuador, and Africa.
