REGISTRATION AND GENERAL INFORMATION ELIGIBILITY: Continuing Education programs are open to residents of Hicksville and neighboring communities. Registrants must be at least 18 years old. SENIOR CITIZENS: Hicksville senior citizens (age 60 or older) are eligible for free tuition for many courses. Some courses require a reduced fee. REGISTRATION: LOCATION: Please note that all room numbers are subject to change due to building events. Please check with the Continuing Education Office, Room 105, prior to the start of your class. Unless otherwise indicated, classes are held at Hicksville High School, 180 Division Avenue (off Old Country Road), Hicksville, NY 11801. You may register by mail immediately upon receipt of flyer. Send a separate registration form and check for each class or trip. You may attach a paper listing additional persons with name, address, phone and email information and a separate check. The phone number on the registration form is important so we can contact you if there is a cancellation. Trip registration is continuous. DIRECTIONS: Registrations will be accepted up to the first day of class Hicksville High School as long as there are openings in the class and it has not been cancelled due to low enrollment. Please do not call the school for directions Long Island Expressway to exit 41S or Northern State Parkway to Exit 35S – Route 107 (Broadway) to Old Country Road – Right 2 Lights to Division Avenue – Left 2 stop signs to High School. Walk in registration will be accepted from Tuesday, September 1 – Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Continuing Education Office located in the Hicksville High School, Room 105 Monday through Thursday from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. Please call 733-2240 Monday– Thursday from 3:30-7:30 for questions. Or Southern State Parkway to exit 27 N – Wantagh Parkway to Exit W2E – Old Country Road 1.3 mi (8 lights) to Division Avenue – Right 2 stops to High School. MINIMUM REGISTRATION: Adult programs must operate on a self-supporting basis, so a minimum number of students are required in order to conduct a course. If enrollment is inadequate, the class will be cancelled. PARKING You may park for classes on Division Avenue or behind the High School. You must enter the building through the main lobby. There is NO PARKING in handicapped parking spaces between blue lines or along red curbs. Cars will be ticketed by Nassau County Police. PAYMENT: CHECKS ONLY! Checks should be made out to Hicksville Public Schools. Join your local musicians in this enjoyable experience. 4 Physical Fitness, Health and Wellness BASKETBALL YOGA Mondays beginning September 28th 7:30-9:30 p.m. 8 weeks Instructor-Charles Healy Cost- $60 Room- Hicksville High School Girl’s Gym Tuesdays beginning September 29th 7:00-8:00 p.m. 6 weeks Instructor- Mary Saramack Cost:- $50 Room- Middle School Cafe B Stay in shape and practice your skills in this eight week basketball program. The class starts with gentle warm up stretches and continues with meditative techniques, breathing, and yoga postures. Please do not eat for at least 2 hours before class. Wear loose clothing and leave the perfume and jewelry at home. Students must bring an authentic yoga mat and a towel. Be prepared to lie on the floor, do rolls on your back and neck rolls. VOLLEYBALL ( INTERMEDIATE) Mondays beginning September 28th 7:30-9:30 p.m. 8 weeks Instructor- Ernie Papadoulias Cost- $60 Room- Middle School Gyms HULA HOOP WORKOUT Men and women of all ages are welcome to this popular recreational class. The focus will be on continuous play. Rules and techniques will be discussed as needed. We have reserved two gyms in the Middle School to accommodate your overwhelming response to this class. Do you remember hula hooping as a kid? According to the American Council of Exercise, hula hooping can burn over 400 calories per hour! Wednesdays beginning September 30th 7:30-9:30 p.m. 8 weeks Instructor-Tom Altamura Cost- $60 Room- Middle School Boy’s Gym NEW! Using a professional weighted hoop, we’ll start with the basics of hooping and add some toning exercises. We’ll progress to a choreographed workout, with time each class for freestyle hooping and learning new tricks. Hooping is fun, gentle and feels great. Everyone can learn to hoop! Even if you were not able to hoop as a kid, give it a try because the secret is in the large, weighted hoops that I will provide. Give it a chance and see how hooping will make you smile and laugh! A large hoop will be provided by the instructor. This course is only for those who have participated in our advanced volleyball class and/or meet the requirements set for this advanced course. Participants are advised to check with their family physician BEFORE registering for any course that requires physical strain. Ditch the workout and join the party! Please bring a towel and bottled water. 5 Rooms 221, 222, 223, and 224, in Hicksville High School 6 COURSES AVAILABLE IN EAST MEADOW For residents of Hicksville taking courses at East Meadow, all non-resident fees are waived except where indicated. These courses are not free to senior citizens. Mail registration by August 28, 2015. In person registration is week of September 8, 2015 at East Meadow High School Cafeteria Classes begin September 28, 2015. TASC/GED & ESL classes began September 29, 2015 and run Tues. & Thurs. from 7—10 pm. Registration is ongoing all year. All tours must have a minimum number of people 30 days prior to trip date or the price may have to be increased or the trip cancelled. and older. Customary gratuity is usually a minimum of $2.00 per participant per day for each. Gratuities to waiters, and waitresses will depend on our prior arrangements. See specific trip for details. 3. Registration and payment may be mailed. Use one check per trip per person. 4. All sales are final. No refunds unless a replacement is found or if a trip is cancelled. 13. We make every effort to make sure your baggage is handled carefully but cannot assume liability for damage or loss to said baggage. BE SURE TO HAVE ALL LUGGAGE TAGGED. 5. You will be contacted to remind you about the trip and departure changes. We will notify you if a trip is filled or cancelled. Please provide all your contact numbers. 14. The district acts solely as the agent in arranging transportation, hotel accommodations, and services, and does not assume liability for injury, damages, loss, accident, or delay due to any act or default of any company or person engaged in transporting passengers or rendering service or carrying out arrangements for any tour – or by the act of default by any hotel or its servants. 6. We must leave exactly at the departure time. If you are late, you risk being left behind. You will not be issued a refund. There are no refunds for any unused portion of the tour. We travel via Deluxe Motor Coach. 7. The seat you occupy at the start of the trip is your seat for the entire trip. No one can board until the district escort arrives. 8. There are limited numbers of seats for each trip. It is first come, first served. You may call the office for late availability at any time prior to the trip. 15. To ensure best seating sign up as early as possible, however, it’s never too late to sign up for a trip. We reserve the right to change or alter itineraries if necessary. 9. If there are any particular health/diet issues, you must let us know 30 days prior to departure so we may make special arrangements for you if possible. 16. Day trips do not include lunch or admissions unless stated in the trip description. 17. Prices are always subject to change. Prices quoted are those in effect as of July 2015. 10. While shopping, be sure to visit one of many eateries on site. We depart Hicksville High School promptly at 10 a.m. and plan to arrive at the outlets approximately at 11:30. Enjoy all the shopping until 5:00.
