1. INTRODUCTIONS
a) ORGANIZATION
International Transformation Foundation –ITF- is a non profit Youth development organization
created and led by amalgamated youth on principles of stimulus and inspiration for change and
transformation for individual achievemnet. This is acomprished by instilling projects set through
healthy, international cohesion and planting proper standards of priority Providing Youths self
development programs encompassing leadership & entrepreneurship.
Since its establishment (December2009)International Transformation Foundation is developing
and operating youths’ self development programs to lead the youths of today as leaders with
strong heart and mind as true workers of society with honest, self-controlled, self-developed
life, creative and progressive thinking.
In last two years over 28,611 youths were immensely changed and transformed through these
programs mainly encircling leadership and entrepreneurship trainings through direct forums,
seminars, camps and Debates.
ITF also do sporadically operate other youth’s development activities such as adolescence
reproductive health, environmental sustainability and Peace campaigns. The ITF’s Coordination
secretariat is in Nairobi, Kenya.
b) ITF YOUTH DEBATE
ITF debate is a competition and a concrete place for change and Transformation of youth
through the exchange of ideas in a persuasive and argumentative manner on selected topical
themes and crucial for youth development, between Youth attending as Debaters with a
cheering audience from different life status, levels, countries etc being up lighted and updated
by Guest Lecturers and softened wholeheartedly by young great artists.
Participants experience such extraordinary realm of change as they testified “We feel like ITF is
moving within some invisible providence that gives us wings to live the life of tomorrow”. 2010
ITF debate participants said.

3. Attendance
ITF Debate’s attendance is about 300 – 400 young people of 18 to30 years old comprising
Debaters and spectators. Debaters are groups of 4 youths per group who have gone through
Debaters application process. We classify spectators as friends/cheerers of Debaters and unlike
debaters they don’t have to go through application process but they have to be registered in
advance. ITF Debate audience also comprise of Sponsors, Partners, Guests who might be over
age of 30.
4. Prizes
Although each contestant (Debater) is awarded a certificate of Participation, only first three
ranked by a judging panel and the best overall individual are prized.

3. 2014 ITF Debate
a) Executive Summary
“Can a Youthful Leadership Revitalize our Democracy?”
2014 ITF Debate is a competition and a concrete place of change for university, colleges and
high school students exchanging comprehensive, transformative and revolutionary arguments
of Democracy factors inspiring young people to compete and participate in National leadership
positions. The 2014 ITF Debate will take place in Nairobi gathering representatives of all Kenya’s
regions. The 2014 ITF debate is live broadcasted via social media networks at
www.facebook.com/itf.kenya and at twitter @ITFSecretariat.
b) Problem statement
A country may have a constitution but fail to follow its letter and spirit in practice hence
constitution without constitutionalism. The current constitution of Kenya state that people of
Kenya recognize the aspirations of all Kenyans for a government on the essential values of
democracy, human rights, equality freedom and social justice. It also state that YOUTH constitute
an integral part of society and are entitled to enjoy all rights and fundamental freedom. However
the period following 2007 general election, Kenyan Youths as wells as all Kenyans witnessed
unprecedented post election violence. The inaliable Youths rights to life, to food, to security, to
housing, to move freely, to own property and assemble, among others, were seriously violated.
Although following the immediate past general election (2013)there was no considerable violence
, youth participation in leadership posts remain insignificant although youth of 30 years and
below constitute about 75% country’s population forming the largest human resource, however
many of them who are productive and energetic remain unemployed and continue to suffer
Idleness’s social ills. We have remained on the periphery of our country’s affairs and our status
has not been accorded due recognition.
Although reports says that in 2007 and 2013 elections, the turn out at the polling station, is said
to have been historical with over 70% of the registered voters, including a sound record of young
people turning out to vote. Furthermore, after results announcement, youth were the one who
turned out to carry out violent actions-ethnic clashes-first experienced in the advent of multiparty
democratic elections in 1991, politically instigated ethnic violence has remained the most
infamous manifestation of violence in Kenya. Attributed to political incitement, tribal tensions and
polarization, consequent clashes and riots occur virtually with every political campaign. These
conflicts are characterized by incitements by politicians, the political parties formed along ethnic
lines use of militia YOUTH groups to carry out violent attacks on opposing communities,
destructions of properties, loss of life and displacement of people to influence voting patterns.
The past elections crisis and subsequent violence witnessed in Kenya have unearthed serious
youth’s social democracy problems that need urgent attention. Evidently the debates on political
violence in Kenya become delinked from its roots which include ethnicity, poor governance,
poverty and inequality just to mention few.

c) Description
Building up a democratic society in Kenya is not only matter of setting up good institutions, sound
laws-Kenya have good laws and institutions however Youth’s democratic right at whole is always
breached in every general election. For 2014 ITF Debate, Kenya competition, Democracy is also
and perhaps mainly a matter of promoting sound values so as to promote the sense of respect for
life, the sense of justice and the sense of common good.
The 2014 ITF Debate is an in-deep insight delivered in form of persuasive arguments from and of
Kenyan youth’s democratic factors in past general elections and for future elections. General
election that have been resulting factor of violence-ethnic clashes-carried out by youth militia
groups that are formed as factor of an arena for young people dissatisfied with establishment
and/or governing system. Just as in previous Presidential election (2007) When the result were
announced , kisumu and the large Nyanza region went up in flames as youth rank monk and
looted business enterprises that belonged to opposition sympathizers. The large rift valley equally
erupted and sporadic violence was experienced in a very single town, property looted, and people
driven of their homes. In the major town Nairobi and Mombasa violence was witnessed
particularly in their informal settlement.
d) Objectives
The 2014 ITF debate, Kenya‘s ultimate objective is to initiate intellectual debates on the much
needed moral revolution amongst youth for youth’s democratic participation in establishment
of government and or governing system of Kenya. More specifically 2014 ITF Debate Kenya is
geared towards:
- Promotion of youth’s democratic factors and participation in general elections
- Promotion of a just and cohesive society
- Promotion of culture of virtue that is respect for life, the dignity of human being, the
respect for the common good.
