Hallo Laserdisc- und DVD-Fans,
liebe Filmfreunde!
Nur noch ein paar Tage und dann beginnt
das erste große CinemaScope-Festival in
der Karlsruher Schauburg. Und es gibt jetzt
schon eine Programmänderung zu melden.
Denn die schwierige rechtliche Lage lässt
es momentan leider nicht zu, dass der Tony
Curtis Film DER EISERNE RITTER VON
FALWORTH zur Aufführung kommen
wird. Aber es gibt stattdessen einen adäquaten Ersatz: REBELL IHRER MAJESTÄT. Wer Bette Davis mag und auch
Franz Waxmans Filmmusik schätzt, der
wird bei diesem Historienfilm ganz bestimmt auf seine Kosten kommen. Wir
haben das korrigierte “Widescreen Weekend”-Programm auf den nachfolgenden
Seiten nochmals für Sie zusammengestellt.
Und wer es nicht zum Festival schafft oder
sowieso Filme lieber im Heimkino genießen
möchte, dem wird der vorliegende
Newsletter sicher wieder viele Anregungen
für die Sammlungserweiterung geben. Wobei Action-Freunden hier speziell der Film

empfohlen sei. Aber bitte beim Anschauen
das Atmen nicht vergessen! Aber natürlich
kommen auch Freunde anspruchsvoller

Kost nicht zu kurz. DIE BAND VON NEBENAN empfiehlt sich hier. Die irrwitzige
Geschichte eines ägyptischen Polizeiorchesters, das zu einem Konzert nach
Israel eingeladen wird und dann im falschen
Ort landet, hat ebenso viele amüsante wie
traurige Momente und besticht speziell in
der Originalfassung durch ein ausgezeichnetes Schauspielerensemble. Und wer es
gerne horrormäßig spannend liebt, der sollte sich die Stephen King Verfilmung DER
NEBEL von Frank Darabont gönnen. Hier
ist Gänsehaut garantiert! Denn in keinem
anderen Film der jüngeren Zeit wird das
spürbare Grauen so auf den Punkt gebracht
wie in dieser Endzeitvision. Oder wie wäre
es mal mit einem netten deutschen Film für
Zwischendurch? KEINOHRHASEN ist
mittlerweile zum erfolgreichsten deutschen
Film in den Charts avanciert. Da lohnt sich
doch vielleicht mal ein neugieriger Blick in
die DVD um zu sehen, ob er denn wirklich
so gut ist wie es die Besucherzahlen suggerieren. Immerhin hat KEINOHRHASEN
für reichlich Wirbel um seine FSK-Freigabe
gesorgt. Denn viele Eltern hatten sich lautstark empört ob der Freigabe ab 6 Jahren.
Und die Lautstärke kam bei den FSKlern
an. Die änderten die Freigabe binnen Kürze
auf “Freigegeben ab 12 Jahren”. In der
Begründung heisst es: “Der
Appellationsausschuss hat nach ausführlicher Diskussion über mögliche Wirkungen
des Films diese Entscheidung gefällt, da
anderenfalls die Erziehung von sechs- oder
siebenjährigen Kindern beeinträchtigt werden könnte”. Begründet wird diese Entscheidung damit, dass die Sprache des
Films häufig mit „sexualisierten, derben
Ausdrucksweisen“ durchsetzt ist. Dabei
sei nicht auszuschließen, „dass die immer
wieder verwandten derben, sexualisierten
Worte und Begriffe Kinder irritieren,
verstören oder in ihnen falsche Vorstellungen wecken, auch weil sie gerade diese Begriffe zumindest teilweise nur in Ansätzen
und gelegentlich überhaupt nicht verstehen
dürften“, heißt es in der FSK-Mitteilung
abschließend.
Und was lernen wir daraus? Man muss bei
einem Film nicht immer gleich die Schere
anlegen. Denn wenn man einfach die “richtige” Altersfreigabe von Anfang an vergibt,
bedarf es keiner Kürzungen. Aber bei Horrorfilmen wird hier eben ein ganz anderes
Maß angelegt. Und das sehr zum Leidwesen eingefleischter Fans.

großzügig inszeniert und gut gespielt. Im Mikrokosmos eines bedrohten Forts mit seinem unfähigen, siegesdurstigen
Kommandanten behandelt der Film erstaunlich differenziert
Themen wie Macht, Kolonisierung und den Konflikt zwischen Gefühlen und Normen, wobei er - trotz seines aufgesetzten Alibi-Endes - engagiert Partei nimmt für Individualismus und Toleranz. (Quelle: Film-Dienst)

Fassung in den Kinos (120 Min.; dt. Verleihtitel: „Ein neuer
Stern am Himmel“), wurde der Film 1983 in den USA von Ron
Haver mit verlorengeglaubtem Material auf die originale Länge von 177 Minuten vervollständigt. Das Original legt Zeugnis ab von der künstlerischen Meisterleistung Cukors, von
der gelungenen Integration scheinbar unvereinbarer Genres,
vom Wagemut im Umgang mit dem damals noch ungewohnten CinemaScope®-Format, von einer atemberaubenden
Schnitttechnik und dem Gespür für filmischen Rhythmus.

Neues aus Tussenhausen
Auch auf die Gefahr hin, dass ich mich
jetzt auf sehr dünnem Eis bewege, tue
ich meiner Meinung über nachfolgendes Hollywoodfilmchen kund...
SEX AND THE CITY (SEX AND THE
CITY) (1:1.85, DD 5.1)
Zugegeben: ich habe die TV-Serie nie
gesehen. Schließlich gibt es ja wichtigere Dinge im Leben - und auch im
Fernsehen. Trotzdem habe ich mich
jetzt in die Kinofassung dieses
anrüchigen Fernsehstoffes gewagt.
Und nach Sichtung des über zwei Stunden dahinfunkelnden Epos für High
Heels Fetischisten werde ich mir die
TV-Serie ganz sicher nie anschauen.
Die Frauenfiguren (um nicht das Wort
„Frauenzimmer“ oder gar „Tussen“ zu
verwenden) in dieser Hollywood-Ausgeburt sind so künstlich, dass es fast
schon wieder gruselig ist und man richtig froh ist, kein Geld zu haben. Zumindest nicht in dem Maße wie die überdrehten Ami-Mädels. Ohne sexistisch
werden zu wollen: aber die Männerfiguren wirken hier deutlich entkrampfter! Ein Film wie geschaffen für die
große Fangemeinde von SATC... Allen
anderen rate ich: Hände weg und
schaut Euch einen besseren Film an!

Steve Buscemis Remake eines Theo
van Gogh Films. Das Zwei-PersonenPsycho-Duell ist mit Buscemi selbst
sowie der hübschen Sienna Miller optimal besetzt und macht richtig Spaß. Wo
anderen Zwei-Personer immer wieder
der sehr theatralische Charakter einen
Strich durch die Rechnung macht, gelingt es den Filmemachern hier, den
Zuschauer stets in ihren Bann zu ziehen. Kinostart ist der 29. Mai 2008
(FSK: ab 12 Jahren)

Dreck und Elend
Die Woche ging los mit einem typisch
deutschen Film...oder nicht?

DER MOND UND ANDERE LIEBHABER (1:1.85, DD 5.1)
Katharina Thalbach in der Rolle einer
sozial schwachen Frau, die sich trotz
aller widrigen Umstände immer wieder
hochrappelt. Teilweise etwas zu dick
aufgetragen, erinnert das Werk von
Bernd Böhlich zu sehr an ein TV Event
Drama als an einen großen Kinofilm.
Dank der guten Leistung der Hauptdarstellerin aber dennoch sehenswert.
Und auch die Tonebene inkl. der Filmmusik überzeugt. Ab 24. Juli im Kino.

Flaches 3D
Kaum zu glauben, aber 3D kann auch
sehr flach wirken...
MUMMIES: SECRETS OF THE
PHARAOHS (MUMIEN 3D) (1:1.85,
Digital 3D, PCM 5.1)
Wieder einmal schafft es ein für große
IMAX-Leinwände konzipiertes DokuDrama auch auf kleinere Leinwände.
Und das in digitalem 3D. Doch das Ergebnis ist enttäuschend. Wer sich speziell wegen des 3D-Effektes zum Kinobesuch verführen lässt, dem gebührt
mein Mitleid. Denn der dreidimensionale Effekt wird kaum genutzt. Möglicherweise wurde der auch nur hinterher per
Software digital hineingerechnet. Tonmäßig kam das Ganze eigentlich sehr
gut rüber und sogar der Subwoofer
hatte Arbeit. Die Musik schien mir eindeutig inspiriert zu sein von Jerry
Goldsmiths MUMMY Score. Den Film
gibt’s ab 17. Juli in digitalen 3D-Kinos
und als IMAX-Version in Nürnberg zu
sehen.
Und heute Abend darf ich wieder einmal einen Film „nachsitzen“. Denn der
deutsche Verleiher hielt es nicht für
nötig, von THE EYE eine Pressevorführung anzusetzen. Na schaun’ wir
mal wie sich das Remake eines asiatischen Top-Films machen wird...

Der filmmäßig frustrierende Freitag
kann nur durch ein kühles Weizenbier
im Biergarten ausgeglichen werden...

Ein österreichisches Beziehungsdrama
um ein Paar mittleren Alters mit
pupertierendem Töchterlein hat uns
alle nicht so von den Socken gehauen
und uns deutlich vor Augen geführt,
dass auch in unserem Nachbarland
weniger gute Filme produziert werden.
Kinostart ist der 24. Juli 2008
NIM’S ISLAND (DIE INSEL DER
ABENTEUER) (1:2.35, DD 5.1)
Diesen Film hat die von mir sehr geschätzte Jodie Foster bestimmt nur angenommen, um ihren Kleinen eine persönliche Freude zu machen. Kein besonders prickelnder Kinderfilm, aber
mit Abigail Breslin (LITTLE MISS
SUNSHINE) gut besetzt. Ab 19. Juni in
den Kinos.

Documentarian Morgan Spurlock rocketed to fame after daring

Saudi Arabia, and Morocco. Spurlock travels from country to
country, popping into mosques, fundamentalist Muslim
schools, shantytowns, army bases, the Gaza strip, and the
local mall, asking everyone along the way if they might know
where he can find Osama. The provocative question never
