To Check your Webcam / Mic and Record Media Comments
Plug in your webcam and/or mic and download any necessary drivers
Login to Canvas at https://sbctc.instructure.com
Click on your Inbox link and find the New Message window (right side of screen)
Click on the Record icon link beneath the message text box
Your Canvas media recorder will open
You can also open the recorder in Assignments, a Discussion or an Announcement
Select the Camera icon
You will see yourself in the recording window if your camera is working
Click anywhere on your image in the recording window to begin recording
Record your message
Click anywhere in the recording window to stop recording
Preview your recording, if you like it and want to use it click Save and Canvas will automatically
attach it to your conversation message, assignment comment, announcemet or discussion posting
Method #1: Camera not Working?
If your camera and/or mic are not working, you will get a black screen with a message asking you
to Allow or Deny access
If clicking the Allow button doesn’t work, right click anywhere in the black box and select Settings
From the next window select Allow and also check the box for Remember
Your image should appear in the recording window as soon as you select Allow
Method #2: Camera not Working?
If your camera and/or mic are not working, you will get a black screen with a message asking you
to Allow or Deny access
If clicking the Allow button doesn’t work, right click anywhere in the black box and select Global
Settings
Click on the Camera & Mic Tab
Click on the Camera and Mic Settings by Site button
Select/highlight the site(s) you want to give permission to
From the ‘When the Selected Site Wants to Use a Camera ar Microphone’ drop down menu,
change Ask me for Permission to Allow
You’ll know your camera is working when you see yourself in the recording window
