Financial Times (FT.com)
The Financial Times (FT.com) is the online edition of the daily newspaper with a special emphasis on
business and economic news internationally. It provides access to a wide range of news articles,
tools and information, making it a valuable resource for current awareness and employability. To
get started, log in to StarPlus and search for Financial Times under University Collections. Find the
required record at the top of the search results and click View Online. The first time you access the
University of Sheffield's FT.com subscription, you'll need to register for a personal FT.com account.
Homepage
Explore the site’s content by
using the navigation bar located
at the top of the homepage
Keyword search box. Tip: use
quotation marks when searching for
a phrase e.g. “Bank of England”
Search results screen
Select a tab to narrow your results
by content type e.g. Multimedia
There are options to filter your
results (located down the left side
of the search results screen). Tip:
You can search for a specific date by
selecting the same start date and
end date using the Custom range...
date filter.

Sort your results by
Relevance or Date (the
FT search archive dates
back to 2004). Tip: left click on the Date button
to change between
descending and
ascending date order.
At the bottom of the search results
screen there are links to an
Advanced search page and Help
page. Hold your cursor over Tips to
see information about formatting
your search query.
The FT ePaper
As well as the online edition of the newspaper, you can also view the Financial Times ePaper, which
is an exact digital replica of the printed newspaper. The ePaper can be read on your computer or
downloaded. It is also available as a web app, optimised for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. The
Financial Times have also created a searchable ePaper archive. Please note: if you are unable to
access the ePaper (for the first time following registration) you may need to sign out of FT.com
and then sign back in again.

Articles, sections and pages (on the right) can be accessed directly
from the Table of Contents (on the left). The content can also be
opened in a new window by clicking on full text from the Table of
Contents (see the link to the right of each article/section listing).

Special reports
1. Access special reports by clicking
on the Home tab and then the
Special Reports subtab.
2. Click on the Reports library link,
which can be found under Reports
Links.

Click on a tab to browse special
reports by Sectors or Regions.
FT clippings
The FT clippings tool allows you to save articles into customisable lists for future reference. There is
no limit to the number of lists you can create or the number of articles that can be saved to a list.
FT clippings can be accessed from
the Tools dropdown menu.

Click on Create your list and add a
name and description. Click Save.
1. Search for an article to add
to your clippings list. Click on
the clip icon (pair of scissors)
at the top of the article.
2. Add any relevant
notes and tags. Click
Save to add the article
to your list.
