February 2016 Newsletter - Immaculate Conception School
Bulletin de l’École Immaculate Conception School Newsletter Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board VISION STATEMENT Committed to a vibrant Catholic education, we ensure quality learning experiences through community partnerships that nurture each student in mind, body and spirit and embrace the teachings of Christ, giving witness to Gospel values. Joel 2:12-13 Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; rend your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. Dear Jesus, on Ash Wednesday, Ashes remind us that we are a small part of God’s creation. They remind us that we are no better than anyone, and they humble us before you and others. Help us see that you love each of us exactly the same. If you would like to chaperone any of these days please call the school. 519 367 2900 URGENT! The Board has determined Friday, April 22, 2016, as the additional Professional Activity Day (PA Day) to be added to the current school year calendar for both elementary and secondary schools. This additional PA Day is one of the negotiated terms of the centralized bargaining process between the Ministry of Education and the federations representing Ontario teachers. Friday, April 22nd will be a PD DAY. “Proclaiming the Work of Your Love” Empathy is being able to identify with, and feel the concerns, feelings and needs of another person. A person of empathy is able to listen sensitively, understand and lovingly “be with” another person. Empathy is at the heart of the ministry of Jesus who first sought to love and understand the people he later healed, and empathy is also at the heart of discipleship. The quote for this month is from 1 Hebrews 3.8: Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart and a humble mind. Let us remember in prayer Reta Fortney Great Grandmother to Zach Valad, Sara and Emma Fortney. “Gracious God, loving Creator, Welcome Reta into paradise. In your love, lead her into the unending joys of your presence where every tear will be wiped away, and there will be no more sorrow. Amen.” Pancake Day sponsored by Parent Council Tuesday, February, 9th. There is no charge for the lunch, however, donations will be used towards student French resources. Students will receive 2 pancakes and 2 sausages. Please send plate and cutlery with your child. If you would like to volunteer on this day, please call the school at 519 367 2900. “We are a Catholic Faith Community committed to developing and maintaining a love of life long learning, nurturing self-esteem and respect for all creation.” Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board “Proclaiming the Work of Your Love” Congratulations to the following students who were recognized for their effort in demonstrating the virtues of Hope and Trust: Emma Metcalfe Jaxon Hergert Lexis Weber Gladys Dietrich Connor Dunn Hailey Ernewein Paige Saunders Sophia Beninger Eran McNeal Turner McKenzie Quentin Hergert Damion Brooke Logan Chamberlain Brayden Voisin Brooke Lorentz Phoenix Chamberlain Keegan Fischer Skylyn Cassidy Miles Biesenthal Tanner Grubb Bradley Steffen Madison Bester Justin Dillon Hayden Oberle Congratulations to the following students who were recognized for their effort in demonstrating the virtues of Patience and Perseverence. Do you have a door? We are looking for the donation of a ‘hollow’ door for a school art activity. As you are most likely aware, Pope Francis has declared a Jubilee Year of Mercy and we will be celebrating this holy year in our school in many ways, particularly during Catholic Education Week. The theme for Catholic Education Week this year is “Opening Doors of Mercy” and each school has been asked to artistically represent a theme of mercy on the door. If you have a door that you would be willing to donate, please contact the school at 519 367 2900. Merci beaucoup! Public Speaking is not an easy thing to do. Our students here at ICS demonstrated courage and confidence at the school public speaking event that was held on Wednesday, January 27th in the ICS gymnasium. The following students shared with their peers and fellow classes top notch speeches. Congratulations! Mischa Weppler, Anne Zettel, Abby Folmer, Cameron Diemert, Kaylee Rich, Delaney Mitchell, Billie Martin, Lauren Dillon, Travis Rawn, Emma Fortney, Hannah Metcalfe, Cara Zettler, Samiah Haase, Harley Martin, Sage Martin, Karlee Weiler and Anika Weppler. Billie Martin and Mischa Weppler placed first and Cara Zettler and Harley Martin were runners up. Good luck to Billie and Mischa at the next round of competition. QUARTER AUCTION! Well it went overt so well the first time, we decided to do it again! The Grade 7/8's are hoping to initiate the second annual "Quarter Auction" as a fundraiser for the class trip. This would involve finding 10-12 vendors (ie Thirty-One, Pampered Chef, etc.) to attend our auction. This would occur on the evening of Thursday, April 7th at the school... We would prefer to give first rights to the immediate families of ICS Students before we seek vendors from outside our ICS community. If you are interested please contact Michele Field at [email protected] prior to Friday, February 12th. Please leave your phone number so that Michele can call you to explain the event. Thank you. Mme Barnard ’s reading club met before Christmas. Older students helped younger students to develop their reading skills. Children gave up at least 15 recesses in order to achieve a winnit sticker for their certificates. Merci et Félicitations! Participants were, Brody Grubb, Kyle Zettler, Colleen Mulvey, Emma Lorentz, Jaxon Hergert, Karlee Weiler, Samiah Haase, Victoria Fahrer, Emma Culbert and Jasmine Voisin.
