TOM SAVINI PRESENTS:
FROM DUSK TIL DAWN
Monster Fest and Warner Bros. Present
A NIGHT WITH LINDA BLAIR
AND THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY
OF THE EXORCIST
Tom Savini is the embodiment of everything we love at
Monster Fest – director, actor, stuntman, SFX maestro and
gore hound par excellence!
In 1973 Linda Blair exploded onto our screens as Regan,
the 12 year old girl possessed by a demonic spirit. In the
40 years since its release, THE EXORCIST has terrified
more people than just about any other film.
Arguably the scariest horror film ever made, its mere
mention sends shivers down the spines of the most
hardened horror fan - and here it is at Monster Fest, in all
it’s ‘directors cut’ glory! And if that doesn’t get your noggin’
spinning, get this… it’s accompanied by none other than
the woman who breathed life into horror’s most iconic
character all those years ago - THE GREAT LINDA BLAIR!
This is a night that will remain with you for eternity: first
an introduction to the film from Linda Blair and Melbourne
cineaste Paul Harris, then a glorious digital print of the
William Friedkin director's cut.

At the resumption of the Q&A, Linda will set up in the cinema
to offer signings and photographs to sell to fans for a small
fee. Make no mistake Monsterfreaks, this is the ultimate
Linda Blair Exorcist experience! Two words - BE THERE!
*Come dressed in THE EXORCIST themed costume
to win door prizes and to have the chance to take
home the coveted ‘Best Regan’ award.
MYSTERY SCREENING
Monster Fest presents a mystery screening with a
mystery guest! Sometimes the best things in life are kept
secret and tonight is one of those nights. Keep an eye
on the Monster Fest website and social media in the
lead up to the festival as we announce the exact details
of the screening and guest. Expect the unexpected!
*Details coming soon on the Monster Fest website.
THURSDAY 21ST NOVEMBER » 7.00PM
VHS RESURRECTION!
Savini’s CV covers some of the coolest horror and genre
flicks of all time - think DAWN OF THE DEAD, CREEPSHOW,
MARTIN, MONKEY SHINES, FRIDAY THE 13th. Add the
fact he’s worked with everyone from Romero and Hooper to
Rodriguez and Tarantino, and you can see why he’s regarded
universally as horror Royalty. Monster Fest is delighted to
host a live Skype hookup with this living legend of horror
and cult cinema. Tom will present the film and take your
questions about the film and his 5 decade career in movies!

STRANGER WITH MY FACE
TERROR AUSTRALIS
Three years ago two Taswegians Briony Kidd and
Rebecca Thomson started the Stranger With My Face
Film Festival, a festival with a specific focus on the
female perspective within horror and female creators
of horror. In a genre that is often seen to be dominated
by the masculine, a celebration of the feminine is long
overdue and on this day - the final day of the festival,
we are proud to present a number of feature films
and shorts created by female directors, as well as a
Mystery Screening presented by none other than the
Canadian author of ‘The House of Psychotic Women’
Kier-La Janisse. The days programming kicks off with a
presentation from Jazmina Cininas looking at the female
werewolf and ends with the Australian premiere of one
of the standout horror films of the year, our closing night
film, KISS OF THE DAMNED by Xan Cassavetes.
Aussie genre is making a comeback and to celebrate
we’re dedicating the first weekend to the many and varied
treasures that have emerged locally over the last twelve
months. Over the course of the weekend we see the World
Premiere of no fewer than eight Aussie genre gems!
FILM FESTIVAL
A SPOTLIGHT ON NEW AUSTRALIAN GENRE
But it’s more than just screenings, we’ve also got the Open
Channel ‘Framed Session’, ‘FUNDING, MARKETING &
MONSTERIZING THE FUTURE, as well Adelaide reprobate
Dick Dale’s short film panorama TRASHARAMA, and
the Grand Final of Australia’s first ever micro-budget,
exploitation, feature-film production initiative, MONSTER
MICRO-NASTIES: THE CANNIBAL PROJECT – all in all it’s
a jam-packed weekend of pure genre insanity that neither
filmmakers or film lovers will want to miss – get on board!

WELCOME TO MONSTER FEST
Well Monsterfiends, it’s that time of year again where we
subject the innocent folk of Melbourne to the most horrific
films on the planet… It’s time for Monster Fest!
We kick off in grand style with a 40th Anniversary screening
of the most famous and scariest, horror film of all time - the
one and only, THE EXORCIST. And it’s not just the film,
but also the woman whose spinning head and green bile
are forever etched in the darkest spaces of the collective
imagination - the phenomenal LINDA BLAIR!
Add local terror merchants Daniel Armstrong, Stuart
Simpson, Sam Barrett and MUFFian Richard Wolstencroft,
and new kids on the block Glenn Trigg, Dale Trott and Baz
Luhrman’s evil cousin, Duncan Armstrong. It’s fair to say
that this old town will never be the same again!
2013 also sees Monster Fest team up with Hobart’s
‘Stranger With My Face’ Film Festival for a sidebar program
focusing specifically on the role of women in horror. A day of
controversy, intelligence and pure gutsy genre filmmaking!
Following this is the ‘TERROR AUSTRALIS’ showcase
of homegrown genre. Here we present eight World
Premieres of new Australian genre films, as well as our
very own ‘make-a-movie’ initiative ‘MONSTER MICRONASTIES: THE CANNIBAL PROJECT’, the infamous
short film showcase ‘TRASHARAMA’, and the Open
Channel ‘Framed Session: ‘MARKETING FUNDING &
MONSTERIZING THE FUTURE, presented by one of
Australia’s preeminent genre filmmakers, Jon Hewitt
(ACOLYTES, X).
The Monster Fest palette offers something for all cult tastes.
There’s the nasty extremes of HATCHET III, the uber creepy
chills of ENTITY, the B-flick hilarity of BIG ASS SPIDER,
the hipster-zombie existentialism of THE BATTERY, the
epic all-night A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET marathon,
to the Euro-eroticism of Xan Cassevetes’ (daughter of
John) sublime vampire tale KISS OF THE DAMNED
– it’s a delicious smorgasbord of depravity that can be
consumed in bite size pieces or gorged upon as one giant,
all-you-can-eat feast.
The Fantastic Asia Film Festival (FAFF) returns with four
Japanese treats guaranteed to blow your warped little minds.
40 plus sessions designed to feed that inner beast within many
of us that hungers for offerings of the dark and macabre!
Tom Savini will also make his Monster Fest debut, the
director-cum-actor-cum-SFX guru, the man they call
‘The Sultan of Splatter’, PLUS one of the rising stars of
British genre, punk-horror enfant terrible, Jake West (EVIL
ALIENS, THE ABCs OF DEATH)? AND, the extraordinary
Canadian author of ‘The House of Psychotic Women’,
Kier-La Janise.
So there you have it my troubled friends - a glorious program
of exciting, creative, innovative cinematic jewels. All I can say
now is get down to Cinema Nova and nourish your blackened
souls with the freaky delicacies of Monster Fest.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

ABDUCTEE
If CUBE had been directed by a member of
Japans ’splat pack’, then ABDUCTEE could have
been the result. Directed by Yudai Yamaguchi,
the brains behind YAKUZA WEAPON,
ABDUCTEE is a spine-chilling change of pace
for this master of gore. Tense, claustrophobic
and assured - a nail-biter from start to finish.

The Bayou-Butcher, Victor Crowley, is back!
If it’s unabated violence, gore and human
carnage you’re after, look no further. Horror
legend Kane Hodder as Victor is superb
and Scream Queen Danielle Harris takes
another giant leap toward horror immortality.
Vicious, thrilling and hilarious – bring it on!
Cody Calahan is a bold new voice in Canadian
genre, his debut feature depicts a planet
descending into chaos where young people,
addicted to, and infected by, social media,
become the hosts of a sinister parasite
that turns them into flesh eating zombies.
An allegorical tale brilliantly executed!
Australian Premiere
Voted the scariest film at Fright Fest beating
the likes of VHS2 and YOU’RE NEXT,
BANSHEE is probably the most twisted film
in this year’s program. Psychotropic drugs,
secret government experiments and the
paranormal – the perfect mix for a good oldfashioned, mind f*ck. You’ve been warned!

Kimani Smith has concocted an ultra-violent,

thrown in to taste – trust us, you’ve never
seen anything quite like EVIL FEED!

CONTRACTED is simply brilliant. The tale
of a twenty-something woman who catches

literally causes her to fall apart. An original and
repulsive body horror that’ll have you chuckling
