ASIAN REGIONAL ORGANISATGION OF BANKS, INSURANCE AND FINANCE UNIONS AROBIFU NEWS BULLETIN 2012/4 SUBHEAD GOES HERE WE SUPPORT NUBE IN THEIR FIGHT AGAINST INJUSTICE . Asian Regional Organisation of Banks, Insurance & Finance Unions . ( AROBIFU ) GO ON NUBE, WE ARE WITH YOU YEAR : 2012 arobifu National banking union, NUBE, MALAYSIA staged a protest against Maybank for sacking two of its office bearers ISSUE NO. 4 Last month, Maybank sacked Abdul Jamil Jalaludeen and Chen Ka Fatt, Nube’s vice president and general treasurer respectively, for carrying the banner “Maybank robs poor Malaysian workers” in Geneva last year. Angered by the incident, the banking union lodged a police report against Maybank’s CEO, Head of Human Resources Division and its Head of Industrial Relations last week. Subramaniam did nothing About 200 members of National Union of Banking Employees (Nube) staged a picket at Dataran Maybank today, decrying the banking giant’s decision to terminate the services of two of its employees last month. The group arrived in several batches at the scene at about 3.30pm, braving heavy rain and police presence. Also present in a show of solidarity were Railway Union of Malaysia (RUM) President Abdul Razak Md Hassan, the Asian Regional Organisation of Banking, Insurance and Financial Unions President C.H Venkatachalam and Parti Sosialis Malaysia secretary-general S Arutchelvan. Several of its officers led by Nube secretarygeneral J Solomon had earlier, at 1pm, lodged a report with the MACC against Maybank for sponsoring an in-house union which it claimed was unlawful under the Industrial Relations Act 1967. Also named in the report were Human Resources Minister Dr S Subramaniam, the Human Resources Department, Industrial Relations Department of Trade Union Affairs and Suhakam. At a press conference earlier after holding a forum, Solomon said that his delegates had unanimously agreed to hold a strike against all banks in Malaysia soon “The reason is because we found out that all members of the Malaysian Commercial Bank Association (MCBA) had supported Maybank’s action,” claimed Solomon. The strike date would be determined tomorrow after a meeting with its national executive council. Training his guns at Subramaniam, Solomon criticised the latter for failing to act against Maybank’s transgressions. Since last year, Solomon said, Nube had raised its concerns over Maybank’s failure to provide better remuneration for its staff to Subramaniam but claimed the complaints had fallen on deaf ears. He added that Maybank had also promoted and sponsored an in-house union last year called Mayneu, in an attempt to divide the workers support. “In the meetings, all Subramaniam says is that he will think about it. In fact, my office bearers were sacked by Maybank on Jan 31, just a day after we met him but he is still thinking about it,” said Solomon. arobifu YEAR : 2012 ISSUE NO. 4 SHAH ALAM – Pertikaian perhubungan perusahaan membabitkan Kesatuan Kebangsaan Pekerja-Pekerja Bank (Nube) dan Maybank, yang berlarutan lebih dua tahun menyaksikan kesatuan pekerja itu membuat laporan di Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) dan selain mengadakan piket tiga jam hari ini. SOLIDARITY FROM TUI BIFU-WFTU l REINSTATE BRO. ABDUL JAMIL JALALUDEEN AND BRO. YEAR : 2012 ISSUE NO 4 NUBE LIVING UPTO THEIR MOTTO ONE FOR ALL ALL FOR ONE PRESIDENT C.H.
