TECHNICAL GLOSSARY
ADAPTIVE DOUBLE DIFFERENTIAL CONTROL
For ultimate-quality two-channel audio playback,the Marantz exclusive ADDC
(Adaptive Double Differential Control) circuitry reconfigures its D/A converters
to dual-differential stereo audio mode which virtually eliminates all crosstalk,
noise and hum,for the highest-possible audio quality.
CLASS A
Class A amplification is the best way of minimizing the distortion. It uses one,or
one set of the transistors for the entire audio signal opposed to Class B
amplification,which splits the signal into positive and negative and amplifies it
separately.Because of this principle,the Class A amplification is free from the
switching noise of the transistors that is unavoidable in the
Class B amplification.
COPPER PLATED CHASSIS
A copper plated chassis provides the best shielding against noise or
electromagnetic distortion radiating from other components in the equipment.
It prevents this noise from being amplified together with the audio signal.
CURRENT FEEDBACK
Unlike conventional Voltage feedback amplification,the Current feedback
amplification makes the power amplifier in-sensitive to difficult loudspeaker
loads.
PAL / NTSC PROGRESSIVE SCAN
Compared to a conventional interlaced picture,progressive scanning creates a
picture signal with double the scan lines,resulting in a noticeably sharper
image.The progressive image offers higher picture resolution and eliminates
virtually all motion artifacts.Even on large screens,the progressive scan lines
are barely noticeable and picture flickering is greatly reduced,so you can enjoy
extended viewing without eye fatigue.
PRECISION DECODE PLOT
Precision Decode Plot is the new algorithm for the Crystal’s DSP. It archives
higher resolution as if performed by the 32bit floating point DSP.You can enjoy
smoother and more realistic surround reproduction for both Dolby Digital and
DTS materials
D-Bus
To control an entire system with one remote handset,Marantz has designed the
D-Bus system.Individual devices inform each other and remote control
commands are communicated via this bus line.The D-Bus system enables
equipment without IR-receiver,like a cassette deck or tuner,to be controlled via
a Marantz remote control.The Marantz D-Bus in addition allows synchronised
recording between Marantz components. It makes sure that no data is lost by a
simultaneously start and stop of both original and copy.
RS-232
An RS-232c port provides an improved functionality for greater control
capabilities in integrated audio/video systems via an two-way communication
interface to control and get status feedback for example to upload customized
control codes,programmable macro's and a wide carrier range for
compatibility with other brands.The RS232c port can,on certain products,
accommodate future performance upgrades such as new surround sound
decoding capabilities,via software downloaded into the products RS-232C
port.
DCDi
The DCDi (Directional Correlation De-interlacing) circuit improves the video
image by using new motion adaptive de-interlacing without introducing
motion artifacts and jagged edges.This circuit provides edge and detail
enhancement without the deleterious side effects.These chipsets have been
chosen for their 10-bit processing of video images as well as their incredible
flexibility
SRS CIRCLE SURROUND II
Circle Surround II is a powerful and versatile multi-channel technology
designed to enable up to 6.1 multi-channel surround-sound playback from
mono,stereo,CS encoded sources and other matrix encoded sources. CS-II
places the listener "inside" the music performances and dramatically improves
the separation and image positioning of both hi-fi audio conventional surroundencoded video material,adding a heightened sense of realism.
DLP
DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology is a revolutionary display solution
that uses an optical semiconductor known as the Digital Micro mirror Device
(DMD) to manipulate light digitally.The DMD chip contains a rectangular array
of up to 1.3 million hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors;each of these micro
mirrors measures less than one-fifth the width of a human hair,and corresponds
to one pixel in a projected image.
SRS TRUSURROUND XT Headphone
The TruSurround XT Headphone technology provides a surround sound
listening experience over headphones.When listening to multichannel content
such as DVD movies over headphones,the listening experience is
fundamentally different than listening to speakers.TruSurround XT provides a
non-fatiguing,immersive,home theater listening experience.TruSurround XT
Headphone also delivers exceptional 3D audio from mono and stereo material.
DOLBY DIGITAL EX
Dolby Digital EX brings a new dimension of depth,spacious ambience and
sound localization to home theater environment.The benefits of DD-EX include
more realistic flyover and fly-around effects from an additional rear center
speaker (6.1),providing a more stable image for atmospheres and music and a
more consistent surround effect throughout the auditorium or home viewing
area.
SUPER AUDIO CD
Super Audio CD is a next generation of music format that provides a more
natural,ultra-high quality sound. It offers a smooth migration path to
higher quality sound,as all existing CDs can be played on the Super Audio CD
player.Super Audio CD is based on the Direct Stream Digital (DSD) technology,
which uses 1 bit delta-sigma modulation and a sampling frequency that is 64
times higher than that of the CD.This enables the Super Audio CD to offer a
frequency range up to 100KHz and a dynamic range of 120dB.
DOLBY PRO LOGIC II
Dolby Pro Logic II is an improved matrix surround technology,offering the full
frequency range across all channels and even with a stereo sound field on the
surround speakers.This experience of two channel decoding adds a more
realistic element to watching TV and is fully compatible with the Dolby Pro
Logic standard.
DTS-ES
The DTS-ES surround system offering a superb sound quality and a range of
formats.The Discrete 6.1 offers the ultimate quality of surround field creation,
while the Matrix 6.1 provides compatibility for the existing DTS 5.1 software.
And the Neo:6 is to create 6.1 surround stage from any two channel source.
DTS 96/24
DTS 96/24 allows for 5.1 channel sound track encoding at a rate of 96kHz/24
bits on DVD-Video titles.Higher sampling rates provide greater bit depth and
allow a wider frequency response.In conjunction with the use of anti-alias and
reconstruction filters DTS 94/24 results in a more transparent sound quality
equivalent to the original soundtrack and is fully backwards compatible at the
same time.
DVD-AUDIO
DVD-Audio is a music format that takes advantage of the high storage capacity
of the DVD to present high quality audio up to six channel.For six channel
amplification,DVD-Audio provides possibility to have 24bit-96kHz audio
information for all six channels,which results in an increased dynamic range
(144dB) and an increased frequency range (0-96kHz).In a two channel
amplification,DVD-Audio expands the limit of the sampling rate to 192kHz.
DVI-D
For high definition all-digital video to look its best,the data must be transferred
from your digital source to your HD display or projector in pure digital form.In
order for a DVD player to do its job,it has to convert video data from the digital
domain to analog,and then back to digital again.This conversion process can
cause high frequency attenuation,and loss of resolution and detail.The DVi-D
output is a pure digital high bandwidth video interface.What you see on your
screen is exactly what was digitally recorded.
Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Modules
Marantz developed it's own discrete circuit boards to replace the IC's.
These Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Modules consists of discrete surface mount
components with short mirror image L/R signal paths.Those devices are doing
exactly the same thing as the Op-Amps,but outperform the regular IC Op-amps
dramatically in terms of the Slew Rate,resulting in a much more dynamic,
accurate and detailed sound.
MULTI SOURCE / MULTI-ROOM
With the Marantz audio system placed in the main room of the house,a second
set of loudspeakers can be placed in a separate room.In both rooms audio
source can be selected independently at a different sound level and with full
remote controlled functionality. Not only sound but even video signals can be
handled in such a way that in the separate room a video source,with OSD
control,can be selected.

NSV
NSV Precision Video is used for very high-quality picture reproduction.This
technology allows video images to be displayed at resolutions and lower
effective signal to noise ratios well beyond that which would be expected from
the data converter by making use of the latest technological advances.
The improvement takes place in parallel with the simultaneous move to
support more and more higher definition video standards including progressive
scan and HDTV.
SUPER-RING TRANSFORMER
Super-ring transformer has the same advantage as with a toroidal transformer
such as high efficiency,stability,and speed. In addition the super ring
transformer outperforms the toroidal transformer on certain aspects.Thanks to
its round shape of the core,the super ring transformer's electro-magnetic
radiation and mechanical vibration are extremely low.
THX ULTRA2
THX Ultra2 incorporates two additional processing technologies: Advanced
Speaker Array (A.S.A.) and Boundary Gain Compensation (B.G.C). ASA is a
proprietary THX technology which processes the sound fed into 2 surround
and 2 surround back speakers to provide the optimum in enveloping surround
sound reproduction.When placing the 2 surround back speakers close to each
other and building your home theater setup using 8 speakers,ASA will create
the largest possible sweet spot in your surround sound field. Boundary Gain
Compensation provides an optimized bass balance in case the listening room
layout results in most of the listeners being seated close to the rear wall.
This technology prevents a 'boomy' bass yet processes the appropriate bass
reinforcement.
THX SELECT
THX Select is more suited to the size and listening distances of most living
rooms. It accurately reflects the demands of modern program material,based
on a fresh examination of the requirements of multi-channel digital audio.
TOROIDAL TRANSFORMER
Toroidal transformer has several advantages over a normal EI core transformer.
It is very efficient and therefore delivers more power compared to the same
size of an EI core transformer.In addition,due to its shape,the electromagnetic
radiation and the mechanical vibration are extremely low.
