On this occasion we wish to combine tradition and innovation by coming back to segments that have marked the history of the Tour de Corse yet have not been used for almost thirty years. We propose a new layout with an experimental format which has been praised by the International Federation (FIA). You will have the pleasure of revisiting the historical route which, in its 2015 version, meets the requirements of modern rallying and offers an amazing variety of landscapes that can only be found in Corsica. We worked hard on this version in order that all the drivers may take part in this rally, under the best possible conditions, and of course surrounded by the immense beauty of this island. While the start and finish of the 2015 Tour de Corse is in Ajaccio, the rally will cover the island from Bastia to Porto-Vecchio by way of Propriano and the town of Corte, where the nerve centre of the event will be installed. I would like to thank all of the municipalities for their unwavering support and effort since the beginning of this project. I would also like to underline the fact that endurance will be the key word of this new layout in which we designed long stages without service, pushing the limits of the FIA regulations as far as we could. This route, thought up specifically for the French round of the World Rally Championship, promises fantastic duels on the roads of the Haute Corse and Corse du Sud. It will be a gruelling test of both men and machines. The Tour of Corsica will be a popular, festive rally which will allow the teams entered in the French Rally Championship to follow in the footsteps of those entered for the World Championship. It will also offer to a wide selection of drivers the opportunity to discover the Corsican territory by participating in the consistency event “Tour de Corse – Rallye des 10.000 Virages.” (Rally of 1000 Curves). All the elements are combined to make the return of the World Rally Championship to Corsica from October 1st to 4th,an exceptional human and sporting adventure. In the name of the FFSA and its Steering Committee I would like to wish you all an excellent 2015 Tour of Corsica. Nicolas Deschaux, President of the French Motor Sports Federation www.tourdecorserally.com 4 Fédération Française du Sport Automobile | 32 Avenue de New York | 75781 PARIS CEDEX 16 5¥M]'BY]&NBJMUPVSEFDPSTFSBMMZ!ŢTBPSH]8FCXXXŢTBPSH]8FC57XXXŢTBUW @ffsaorg Fédération Française du Sport Automobile RALLY GUIDE 1 1/2 The challenge A return to its roots. For all competitors, the 2015 Tour de Corse will represent a break from the norm and the opportunity to experience a unique adventure. Round 11 of the 2015 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) will take place between 1-4 October and will follow what might be called an ‘old-school’ route consisting almost exclusively of long special stages, which will take crews to all four corners of the ‘Isle of Beauty’. Beginning with a leg from Ajaccio to Bastia on Friday, 2 October, followed by Bastia to Porto-Vecchio on Saturday and concluding with Porto-Vecchio to Ajaccio on Sunday, 4 October, the 2015 Tour de Corse represents a clean break with the now customary loops of specials stages based around the same location. The itinerary has been designed by the FFSA (French Motor Sports Federation) in association with Corsican motorsport clubs, and the result means drivers will compete against the clock on some of the most stunning roads in both the northern and southern regions of the island, passing many of its landmarks and towns along the way. On Thursday, 1 October, the action will get underway for competitors and spectators alike with the shakedown – compulsory for all WRC crews and similarly open to entrants in the sixth round of the French Rally Championship, which will take place at the same time and use exactly the same route. The shakedown stage will be located just outside the city of Corte, the rally’s central service hub. That same evening, the unmissable Ceremonial Start will bring the ‘Imperial City’ of Ajaccio firmly to life. A true marathon From a sporting perspective, the route promises diversity and difficulty in equal measure – which will be evident right from the start. After the Plage du Liamone/Sarrola-Carcopino stage (SS1, 29.12km), which stands out for its incredible variety of roads, crews will head to Corte for the rally’s first service break. Next comes the first major hurdle of France’s round of the World Rally Championship, as competitors tackle Casamozza/Ponte-Leccia (SS2, 43.69km) followed almost immediately by Francardo/Sermano (SS3, 36.43km). The description below offers a glimpse of the first significant challenge that awaits participants in the 58th edition of this iconic event. Only a short 10km liaison section separates the end of SS2 from the start of SS3! That night’s parc fermé will be in Bastia’s picturesque Place Saint Nicolas. Continuing the adventurous theme, the second leg will begin with a repeat run through the previous afternoon’s two timed stages (SS4 and SS5). After another service halt in Corte, the Tour de Corse will set off towards the south. First of all, the drivers will do battle in Muracciole/Col de Sorba (SS6, 48.46km); regarded as the event’s ultimate test; reaching its culminating point of Col de Sorba will be an achievement all in itself! Crews will then spend the night in the magnificent southern Corsica town of Porto-Vecchio. The final day of the rally will similarly comprise three stages. The first two may prove crucial in determining the overall result as they are long, spectacular and extremely demanding! Sotta/Chialza (SS7, 36.58km) and Zérubia/Martini (SS8, 41.43km) will follow each other in swift succession, with no rest for either man or machine save for a short regroup and fuel stop in Propiano. The Tour de Corse will then conclude with the ever-popular, live-televised Power Stage – Bisinao/Agosta Plage (SS9, 16.74km) – which awards additional points towards the drivers’ title fight. Finally, the Ceremonial Finish will take place on the podium in the centre of Napoleon Bonaparte’s city, Ajaccio. www.tourdecorserally.com Fédération Française du Sport Automobile | 32 Avenue de New York | 75781 PARIS CEDEX 16 5¥M]'BY]&NBJMUPVSEFDPSTFSBMMZ!ŢTBPSH]8FCXXXŢTBPSH]8FC57XXXŢTBUW @ffsaorg Fédération Française du Sport Automobile 5 RALLY GUIDE 1 The 2015 Tour de Corse special stages in detail: Leg 1: Friday, 2 October SS1, Plage du Liamone / Sarrola-Carcopino (29.12km) The first special stage will provide competitors with an idea of what they can expect throughout the rally. It represents a complete cross-section of Corsican roads, from narrow, twisty sections to faster ones, a climb from the Mediterranean coast up to Casaglione, a fast downhill stretch to Sarrola and various different surfaces – in other words, every kind of challenge possible! SS2, Casamozza / Ponte-Leccia (43.69km) The island event’s first ‘marathon’ loop begins in Castagniccia. Its total length is 80km and will be covered practically without a break. Barchetta, Bisinchi and Campile are all to be found in the first 30 kilometres of twisty, asphalt roads lined by chestnut trees, and these villages have witnessed some of the greatest scenes in Tour de Corse history. The final section is very different, taking in a wider, particularly fast downhill run. SS3, Francardo / Sermano (36.43km) This stage takes place to the north of Corte in one of the island’s most beautiful regions. It promises to truly sort the men from the boys. The roads are very narrow, abrasive, bumpy and covered with asphalt from another era. Surprises are in store here! The stage alternates uphill and downhill sections. Leg 2: Saturday, 3 October SS4, Casamozza / Ponte-Leccia (43.69km): Identical to SS2. SS5, Francardo / Sermano (36.43km): Identical to SS3. SS6, Muracciole / Col de Sorba (48.46km) One legend follows another with the Muracciole stage that has always been so significant in Tour de Corse folklore. The uphill climb to Vezzani via the majestic Rosipigliani forest and the descent to Pietroso comprise quick, flowing sections. The sprint through the narrow, bumpy Inzecca gorge is a real test of fortitude, before competitors race up the mountain and arrive in Col de Sorba – the highest point of the rally at 1,311m – after crossing Ghisoni, the umpteenth mecca of this island classic. Leg 3, Sunday, 4 October SS7, Sotta / Chialza (36.58km) Crews will face two distinct types of challenge in this stage. Over the first 13km, they will tackle fast, wide roads – similar to those used in hillclimbs – which will bring them to Col de Bacinu. The rest of the stage is much slower and downhill almost all the way, passing the small villages of Bisène and Chialza before the finish. SS8, Zérubia / Martini (41.43km) This is another stage that has gone down in Tour de Corse history even if the end of it – from Arbellara to Martini – is completely new this year. The surface changes constantly with banked corners, bumpy roads and fast, flowing sections that will challenge drivers’ skills as far as Arbellara. They will then speed uphill to the Col de Siu, three kilometres before the finish. This will bring competitors to a stunning vantage point with a marvellous view over the Gulf of Propriano. The surprising ochre asphalt blends into the island’s landscape. There follows a technical halt for the fourth and final Tyre Fitting Zone – where crews must change their tyres themselves – and a short regroup in Propriano before participants join battle one last time for the Power Stage. SS9, Power Stage : Bisinao / Agosta Plage (16.74km) The road selected for the shortest stage of the 2015 Tour de Corse is very quick and undulating, reaching its midway point at the Col de Bellevalle. The fast, technical downhill run that leads to the village of Pietrosella and subsequently Agosta Plage needs no introduction, as it has crowned many of motorsport’s all-time greats over the years! www.tourdecorserally.com 6 Fédération Française du Sport Automobile | 32 Avenue de New York | 75781 PARIS CEDEX 16 5¥M]'BY]&NBJMUPVSEFDPSTFSBMMZ!ŢTBPSH]8FCXXXŢTBPSH]8FC57XXXŢTBUW @ffsaorg Fédération Française du Sport Automobile RALLY GUIDE 1 1/3 Previous winners All the Rallye de France winners 2014 2013 2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 1999 1998 1997 1996 1995 1994 1993 1992 1991 1990 1989 1988 1987 1986 1985 1984 1983 1982 1981 1980 1979 1978 1977 1976 1975 1974 1973 Jari-Matti Latvala Sébastien Ogier Sébastien Ogier Sébastien Loeb N/A Sébastien Loeb Sébastien Loeb Sébastien Loeb Sébastien Loeb Markko Märtin Petter Solberg Gilles Panizzi Jesús Puras Gilles Panizzi Philippe Bugalski Colin Mc Rae Colin Mc Rae Philippe Bugalski Didier Auriol Didier Auriol François Delecour Didier Auriol Carlos Sainz Didier Auriol Didier Auriol Didier Auriol Bernard Béguin Bruno Saby Jean Ragnotti Markku Alén Markku Alén Jean Ragnotti Bernard Darniche Jean-Luc Thérier Bernard Darniche Bernard Darniche Bernard Darniche Sandro Munari Bernard Darniche Jean-Claude Andruet Jean-Pierre Nicolas Miikka Anttila Julien Ingrassia Julien Ingrassia Daniel Elena Volkswagen Polo R WRC Volkswagen Polo R WRC Citroën DS3 WRC Citroën C4 WRC Daniel Elena Daniel Elena Daniel Elena Daniel Elena Michael Park Phillip Mills Hervé Panizzi Marc Martí Hervé Panizzi Jean-Paul Chiaroni Nicky Grist Nicky Grist Jean-Paul Chiaroni Denis Giraudet Bernard Occelli Daniel Grataloup Bernard Occelli Luís Moya Bernard Occelli Bernard Occelli Bernard Occelli Jean-Jacques Lenne Jean-François Fauchille Pierre Thimonier Ilkka Kivimaki Ilkka Kivimaki Jean-Marc Andrié Alain Mahé Michel Vial Alain Mahé Alain Mahé Alain Mahé Silvio Maiga Alain Mahé Biche Michel Vial Citroën C4 WRC Citroën C4 WRC Citroën Xsara WRC Citroën Xsara WRC Ford Focus RS WRC Subaru Impreza WRC2003 Peugeot 206 WRC Citroën Xsara WRC Peugeot 206 WRC Citroën Xsara Kit-Car Subaru Impreza WRC Subaru Impreza WRC Renault Maxi Mégane Toyota Celica GT-4 Toyota Celica 4WD Ford Escort RS Cosworth Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16v Toyota Celica GT-4 Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16v Lancia Delta HF Integrale Ford Sierra RS Cosworth BMW M3 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 évo. 2 Renault 5 Maxi Turbo Lancia Rally 037 Lancia Rally 037 Renault 5 Turbo Lancia Stratos HF Porsche 911 SC Lancia Stratos HF Fiat 131 Abarth Fiat 131 Abarth Lancia Stratos HF Lancia Stratos HF Lancia Stratos HF Alpine A110 1800 www.tourdecorserally.com Fédération Française du Sport Automobile | 32 Avenue de New York | 75781 PARIS CEDEX 16 5¥M]'BY]&NBJMUPVSEFDPSTFSBMMZ!ŢTBPSH]8FCXXXŢTBPSH]8FC57XXXŢTBUW @ffsaorg Fédération Française du Sport Automobile 7 RALLY GUIDE 1 2 CONTACT DETAILS 2/1 Permanent organisation contact details Tour de Corse (permanent rally office) Fédération Française du Sport Automobile 32 Avenue de New York – 75781 Paris Cedex 16 -
