101. Private Performance as Clarence Darrow in a One-Man Play

Professional actor and lawyer (and Chicago Bar Association Chorus bass) Kevin Bry
will give a lecture-performance on the life and legal career of America’s foremost trial
attorney, Clarence Darrow, at a Chicago-area venue of your choice. The show features
Darrow’s great legal arguments and includes not only Darrow’s perspective, but also
many other points of view, including those of his clients, opposing counsel, and friends
and acquaintances. The lecture-performance is approximately 90 minutes long and
recommended for a minimum audience of twelve. A performance date in the AugustOctober range is preferred.

102. Music of the Baroque 2013-2014 Season Gift Certificate

A set of two flexible 3-concert subscriptions to the Music of the Baroque’s 2013-2014
concert series. The winning bidder is entitled to a pair of tickets (for “A” seats, the best
tier of seats) to any three concerts from the list below:
● Kraemer Conducts Bach Magnificat. An outstanding roster of soloists in two
extraordinary cantatas and the great Magnificat in D.
● Classical Vienna – Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert. Schubert’s Symphony No. 5;
Beethoven’s second symphony; and Mozart’s G major piano concerto. Music
Director Jane Glover conducts.
● Holiday Brass & Choral Concerts. In his U.S. conducting debut, tenor Paul
Agnew, well-known for his performances as the Evangelist in the Bach Passions
and Christmas Oratorio, puts a new face on a perennial favorite.
● Crowning Glory: The Coronation Mass. Mozart’s “Coronation” Mass is the
centerpiece of a program that also includes Handel’s great Coronation Anthem,

“The King shall rejoice.” Haydn’s Symphony No. 85 rounds out a royally
entertaining evening. Jane Glover conducts.
● Handel and Bach—Italian Style. Gorgeous but rarely heard cantatas—Handel’s
passionate Apollo e Dafne for soprano and baritone, and Bach’s “Non sa che sia
dolore” for solo soprano—highlight a program exploring vocal and instrumental
works in the Italian style by these two great German masters. Nicholas Kraemer
conducts.
● Haydn’s Creation. ane Glover conducts the orchestra, chorus and soloists
lizabeth utral, Nicholas han, and Christ pheren Nomura in this timeless work
of towering invention.
● The Royal ireworks Music…And More! Nicholas Kraemer leads an evening of
exhilarating Baroque orchestral works, including dances from The Fairy Queen
by Purcell, a Vivaldi bassoon concerto, music by Rameau and C.P.E. Bach—and
bringing the season to a brilliant close, Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks.
The winning bidder will receive a hard-copy certificate that can be redeemed by calling
the box office and choosing the three performances he/she would like to attend. If
needed, he/she may subsequently exchange a pair of tickets and attend a different
performance (as long as there is available seating, which there almost always is).

Enjoy a private violin recital by Sara Su Jones, the concertmaster of the CBASO and a
professional-level violinist (recently named one of Chicago’s “Best Local emale
Musicians” by CBS Chicago), at your home or other location of your choice (with a
piano) in the Chicago area, including the suburbs. Sara Su’s regular recital partner is
Tatyana Stepanova, a former first-place winner of the Russian National Piano
Competition who has performed at Symphony Center with members of the Chicago
Symphony Orchestra. 98.7 WFMT program host Dennis Moore will offer commentary
on the pieces being performed.
A “house” recital typically lasts 45 minutes; the date and time will be arranged by mutual
agreement (please note that the summer months are preferable). If you wish, you may
select the works to be performed from Sara Su’s extensive repertoire list, including
sonatas by Franck, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Handel, and Vivaldi, and a wide
variety of virtuoso works and popular encore pieces in diverse styles, from Gershwin
and Kreisler to Debussy and Rachmaninov.

who filmed the concert, and CBA Chorus member Stefania Dion are donating 20 DVDs
of the performance.

In June 2011, the Chicago Bar Association Symphony Orchestra, joined by the Chicago
Bar Association Chorus and professional soloists, celebrated its 25th anniversary
season with a highly acclaimed performance of Carmina Burana in a sold-out Orchestra
Hall in Chicago. Four camera operators were there to capture that magical evening,
and band leader John Vishneski and his son Jack created a DVD of the entire

From Cobblestone Records, the six-volume L set “Newport in New York ‘72,”
containing all known jazz performances from the 1972 edition of the Newport Jazz
Festival, which took place at different venues in New York, including Yankee Stadium
and Radio City Music Hall. This was the first time the Festival moved from Newport.
The 1972 festival consisted of thirty concerts with 62 all-star performers, at multiple
venues. Most of the performances are long jam sessions on popular standards by a
mixture of well-known jazzmen, most of whom didn’t usually play together.
LPs are in excellent condition; covers are slightly worn.

Overall size (framed) 14” x 19”.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, July 19, 1900, Eames spent the early part of his adult
life traveling between Maine, New York, and Europe. He graduated from Harvard in
1922 and then attended the Harvard Graduate School of Architecture. (For the last
three years of his life, Mr. Eames had the distinction of leading the alumni procession at
the Harvard commencement as the oldest attending graduate.) Eames worked for
almost ten years in New York architectural offices before traveling to London to study
art. He worked in a tradition of painters and etchers that included James Abbott McNeill
Whistler, John Taylor Arms, Malcolm Osborne, and Robert Austin. The last two were his
teachers during the early 1930s at the Royal College of Art in London.
He had an extensive list of exhibition credits going back to 1935, which included the
Royal Academy in London, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Venice Biennial, and the
New York World's Fair in 1939, among many others. His work is in many permanent
collections, including the Library of Congress and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Eames was a Senior Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and a member
of the National Academy of Design.
