About us
Our story begins back in the 1950’s when Mr and Mrs Unwin set up
an engineering company in beautiful Somerset. One of the many
innovations designed by Norman (Mr Unwin) was the first foot
measurement machine for Clarks Shoes. After an interesting trip
to the seaside and having to use his tie to secure a wheelchair,
Norman had a light-bulb moment that inspired the creation of
the first wheelchair restraint system for vehicles. The company’s
future direction was found and the first restraint and flooring
system was born. Since then this market has developed and grown
over the last 50 years with the Unwin family still at the helm.
Safe vehicles
Our rail, seat fixtures and flooring are used in all sorts of vehicles from minibuses to
coaches, emergency service vehicles to boats and even in a horse & carriage! They’re
a popular choice for camper van owners, providing a safe and secure way to achieve
specific floor layouts. T4 and T5 owners (especially) are fans of our Unwin rail and
we have now introduced unique kits designed specifically for these projects.
Our camper van kits
Whether you use your camper van for work, hobbies or family adventures... or even
all three, we realise, the right interior layout is crucial. The rail kits help your converter
or yourself to position seats or fittings in bespoke layouts. Made from aluminium,
machined and drilled in our Somerset HQ, Unwin rail is versatile and strong.

Our kits come with the right amount of accessories and instructions on
how to fit safely and seat lockables to secure your seats into the rail.

Kit 1 comprises of:
• 2 pieces of drilled Low Profile Rail or Surface Rail (1.84m each)
• 38 x M8 fastener sets which includes steel screws,
nyloc nuts and steel washers
• 18 x M8 underfloor spreader plates to ensure high level of safety
• 4 x metal end caps for a flush finish to the mounted floor
Seating Layout:
For this floor configuration you will require an additional length of rail.

Peace of mind
We carry out dynamic and static testing for our wide range of automotive safety
products. We work closely with UK and International Test Houses to ensure our
products meet current international standards and regulations. This is supported by
test reports for our products, which are also accepted by VOSA. Safety is at the core
of our business.
• We have crash test and static testing facilities which enable us to test our products
rigorously, making sure they meet international standard requirements.
• We work closely with OEM vehicle manufacturers and users to provide the right
solution for the market.
• We have a dedicated engineering team which understand UK and European
legislation and safeguard that our products are vehicle safe.
• Our camper van kits when fitted as per our written instructions, are safe for use
with single seat weights of up to 33kg in vans, minibuses and of course camper vans.

Feedback and FAQ
From various forum posts and phone calls, we know safety is
paramount to you, so we have collated answers to some of the
more frequently asked questions.
‘I need to retro fit some seats, how do I safely
secure them?’
The safest way to do this is to follow our rail fitting instructions
which can be found on our camper van kit website page.
I’m interested in putting an M1 tested rock ‘n’ roll bed
on rail and would be very interested in hearing you’re
views on this?
The kits have been made primarily to deal with the installation
of seats. The rock n roll bed is something we are looking at, but
in order for it to be a safe installation it is likely that 3 – 4 rails
would be needed with the seat locking devices to hold the loads.
I want to fit Unwin low profile rail in my van.
Is reinforcing required under the van (spreader
plates or welded sections)?
Additional support is needed in order to comply with our
instructions. These have been included as part of the kit.
Heavier duty support such as welded sections can be fitted, but
if the kit is installed using the equipment provided and to our
instructions this will meet the required standards.
What is the difference between Low Profile Rail
and Surface Rail?
Low Profile Rail is recessed into the vehicle floor for a neat
finish. Surface Rail is surface mounted with a height of 13.5mm
above the finished floor.
