Supporting
cancer research,
one leaf at a time
Moments before touring the new Centre for Innovative Cancer Research at The Ottawa Hospital
Cancer Centre, our friendly colleagues from Shoppers Drug Mart presented The Ottawa Hospital
Foundation with a cheque for $82,466 in support of women’s cancer research.
“Our commitment to women’s health is
founded in the belief that when
Canadian women are healthy and well,
Canada is healthy and well,” says
Bashir Surani, Pharmacist/Owner of
Shoppers Drug Mart 174 Bank St. and
a member of the Hospital’s Board of
Governors. “We are thrilled to make
this donation and support cancer
research in Ottawa.”

these funds through the annual Tree of
Life Campaign. The four-week campaign invited Ottawa residents to make a difference in cancer
research by purchasing a paper leaf, butterfly or cardinal while visiting any of the 44 stores
throughout the Ottawa area.
“We are so grateful to Shoppers Drug Mart and its customers for their support of cancer research at
the Hospital,” says Sharon Martin, Senior Director of Special Projects at the Foundation. “So many
people are touched by cancer, and many of them want to support research. The Tree of Life
Campaign provides an avenue for them to help.”
Ottawa-area Shoppers Drug Mart stores have been supporting The Ottawa Hospital through the
Tree of Life Campaign since 2006. Since then, they have donated almost $300,000 to patient care
and research for the people of Ottawa and Eastern Ontario.
