TJX Europe is part of
The TJX Companies, Inc.
– the world’s leading off-price
fashion and homeware
retailer with an annual
turnover exceeding $23
billion in 2011. TJX operates
four major divisions:
The Marmaxx Group
(T.J.Maxx and Marshalls)
and HomeGoods in the
United States; TJX Canada
(Winners, HomeSense
and Marshalls); and TJX
Europe (T.K. Maxx and
HomeSense). We brought
our way of retailing to the
UK in 1994 and from here
we have grown to a business
with over 350 stores trading
across 4 European countries.
We are proud of the
heritage that comes from
over 30 years’ retailing
experience in the States
and, even though we
continue to grow, our
off-price business model
of no-frills stores combined
with opportunistic buying
stays the same. Put simply
GLOBALLY WE OPERATE AROUND
2900 STORES ACROSS 6 COUNTRIES
WITH 170,000 ASSOCIATES
– it’s all about brand,
fashion, quality and price.
TJX Europe is a growth
vehicle for The TJX
Companies, Inc. and we
continue to have enormous
growth opportunities in
Europe. We believe we
have the long-term
potential to grow to
750–875 TK Maxx and
HomeSense stores in the
markets where we currently
operate in Europe. This
means opportunities for
everyone who works for
TJX Europe, and is just one
of the great reasons to come
and be part of our success.

Other retailers mostly produce their
lines up to 12 months ahead, a more
costly and time consuming process
We pay much quicker than most retailers
and have one of the best credit ratings in
retail
We buy close to need, taking advantage
of opportunities such as those created by
other retailers cancelling or returning
orders
Our supply chain is lean and efficient,
moving inventory quickly through and
into our stores : we have minimal
warehousing
We source the same brands and styles
seen in full price retailers- we sell our
products cheap, but we don’t sell cheap
products
Our stores have no internal walls or
permanent fixtures so we can flex our
space between categories whenever we
need - with daily deliveries this is
essential
Our store environments are essentially
self - service : neat, clean and organised,
with friendly, knowledgeable Associates,
quick checkout and hassle free returns
We operate with lean inventories and
our buyers are in the market every day
so that we can quickly find and do deals
on available stock - meaning 90% of our
stock is current season
We don’t have to fill quotas and range
plans so we can be flexible to do deals on
incomplete size ranges, styles and mixed
assortments, no matter how small - in
fact we don’t buy in bulk
Overall, we run a lean business to fulfil
our mission of offering brands at the
lowest possible price available to our
customers

JO, SUPPLY CHAIN SPECIALIST
UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER
FASHION & TEXTILE
My role in Distribution is
within Vendor Compliance.
Associates at our Processing
Centres record information
about the way stock is
received to show if all of
our requirements are being
met, and to highlight any
opportunities we may have in
terms of the presentation of
stock. It is my job to analyse
this data and to report on our
findings each month, as well
as to identify key areas for
us to work with vendors on.
Our supply chain specialists
and I then work with vendors
on the information we have
recorded to see if they can
pack and ship their stock in a
way that is more compliant to
our needs.
Ensuring stock is shipped
by vendors compliantly to
our requirements is crucial
in supporting the business’
off-price model. It enables
our stock to be processed
more efficiently which not
only impacts the manual
labour and cost that goes into
processing, but also enables
us to get stock to shop floors
quicker, to ensure we have the
best mix of products available
for our customers.
the best
way, and
helps
us to build strong
relationships. It’s great to
be involved with so many
different areas of our business
on a daily basis such as
buyers, distribution centres,
supply chain specialists etc as
you really feel to be working at
the heart of the company.
I enjoy my role as have the
opportunity to work with both
our internal operations as
well as our vendor base. It is
important to understand how
our suppliers work to ensure
we are working together in

WE’RE COMMITTED TO MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT
ON OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND TAKE A
RESPONSIBLE APPROACH TO SOURCING, TRADING
AND REDUCING OUR IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT.
COMMUNITY
Contributing positively to the communities in which we operate is a fundamental
part of how we do business. Building a real future for children is the driving force
behind our charitable initiatives. We are very proud of the passion and dedication
our associates and customers give to our community programmes.
Since 2005, TK Maxx UK
has raised over £9.7 million for
Comic Relief, helping people
living unimaginably tough lives
in the UK and across Africa.
WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT RUNNING
A BUSINESS THAT THRIVES ON
TK Maxx Ireland has raised
over €1.3 million for Enable

TK Maxx Germany supports

children in Germany.
TK Maxx UK has raised
over £1.3 million to help

WORKING WITH
OUR SUPPLIERS
THE UGANDA
COMMUNITY PROJECT
The Uganda Community Project is
our pan-European initiative to help
educate children and develop economic
opportunities in the remote Rwenzori
region of Western Uganda. Since 2008
we have partnered with Save the
Children to build classrooms for 10,000
children in 12 remote communities. We
are now raising more funds to partner
with the community to build more
classrooms, deliver more materials and
teaching support the aim of reaching
90% children by 2013.
Our internal Trading
Standards team make
sure that products we buy
have been manufactured
and shipped in accordance
with all applicable laws
and regulations. If we do
happen to find a product
that does not fulfil all the
criteria, we ensure the item
is immediately removed.
We have developed a very exciting
sustainable trade strategy to help
alleviate poverty and encourage
economic development in the
communities.. We are, sourcing
products from the Ugandan school
communities to sell in our stores. We
are giving the communities wider
access to regional and international
markets to promote trade, provide skills
and employment and in turn achieve
long term improvement to lives of the
communities.
Our buyers are always
looking to source more
organic and Fairtrade
cotton clothing for our
stores. In fact, our
Comic Relief 2009 and
2011 t-shirts were 100%
Fairtrade certified organic
cotton. We love clothes,
but we don’t’ like fur.
Since 2003 we’ve banned
all real fur products from
our stores.
ENVIRONMENT
We are committed to
being environmentally
responsible and have a
sustainable plan that
is working towards
reducing our impact on
the environment.
We have a strong
environmental
programme, with
a focus on carbon
reduction; since 2006
we have reduced our
carbon footprint by 26%
relative to the number of
employees and by 38%
relative to floorspace.
In addition, we were
the 200th company to
achieve the Carbon Trust
Standard Accreditation,
recognising our consistent
efforts to reduce our
carbon footprint.

Our waste, energy
and water monitoring
programme, integrating
energy efficiencies
into store design and
our award-winning
innovative distribution
strategy have all helped
us achieve our significant
carbon footprint
reduction. In-store our
range of sustainable
bags for life not only look
fantastic and do their bit
for the environment, but
all net profits benefit our
charitable partners.
Furthermore, the TJX
companies has celebrated
ten consecutive years
on the FTSE4Good
