PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
By Carolyn Chiriboga
The Moonlight Angels Auxiliary NEVER stops or even slows
down!
Our absolutely fantastic, fun "All Shook Up" luncheon is over,
but it will be a long time before it is forgotten. What a great
day....there is SO much that I could say about it but for now I
will just say: Angels, you are Amazing! Barbara Meech and
Linda Kononchuk chairpersons of the event, the different
committees: Carrie Gamble, the centerpieces were adorable,
Jennifer White and Jane Penne-Morse the baskets were terrific
and Carol Jungerheld, your efforts with the Benefactors and
“Special Angels" was a big contribution to the financial success
of our luncheon. To all of you and the rest of the Angels, I
haven't named, a HUGE "thank you"!
As I said earlier, the Moonlight Angels never stop so of course,
we are already in the midst of planning our next big event: the
“Shrek Swamp Soiree" to be held Aug. 14th. Again the amazing
team of Meech and Kononchuk are chairing this event. You will
be seeing more about this from them.
Along with these big events, we are always doing other fun
things; Karen Cowles and Linda Kononchuk, a big thank you for
the great Opening Night receptions for the Avo Playhouse
Winter season. They were different and so enjoyable this year.
Our two Angel teams at the Soroptimist Bowl-a-thon represented
us well as did the "cheerleader team". Another fun day.
The Angels were at the Vista Strawberry Festival for the first
time this year, thank you Carol Jungerheld for planning it and
putting in the 14 hour day to make it a success. It was a fun way
to meet and greet the public and let them know who we are and
promote the Moonlight Amphitheatre.
As you will see as you read through the Newsletter, there are
more events coming up throughout the year, so if you see a date
for events that you are interested in, please mark it on your
calendar.
Well, that's it for now; I look forward to saying "hi" to
many of you throughout the summer.

Being an Angel—2015
B
eing involved with the Moonlight Angels Auxiliary for 18 years has brought so many rewarding
experiences. Topping the list would be volunteerism in dozens of different venues; meeting the
dedicated people behind the Moonlight Productions; and working with so many wonderful Angels on
the board of directors. There has been a lot of hard work and dedication shown over these years from all of
these people.
Carol Jungerheld
I
f you are a member of the Moonlight Angels
Auxiliary, I would like you to think about offering
some of your time and energy to this great
organization.
You all have something to offer: from mailing
newsletters, to helping with the set up or clean up
at Bunco and other events. Think about becoming
an usher, a great opportunity to greet theatergoers
and attend a great show, or even ticket writing at
each performance. There's so many ways to get
involved, just say "YES" next time you receive a
phone call.......
All the ladies I've met have been wonderful. You
will enjoy meeting them at the various functions.
"Volunteers do not necessarily
have the time; they have the heart"
Mary Nardella
I
t's a great honor and pleasure to be a Moonlight
Angel's board member.
I am surrounded with people who love and are as
passionate as I am with the theater. Everlasting
friendships are also created all while supporting the
wonderful Moonlight Theater, the little gem in
Vista.
Becky Kwock
Welcome 2015
will also move to the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine.
In the company is Kristine Miller, "Catch Me If
You Can", Noelle Marion, "Leading Ladies",

With The Mole From Down Under
As the final days of All Shook Up approached, this
little rodent is trimming the sideburns, hanging up
the leather jacket and putting away the Blue Suede
Shoes. This show was a fabulous start to our 35th
season.
Next up, right after the 4th of July, is the All
American Favorite, The Music Man. In the lead
role is Moonlight favorite, David Engel. David
was one of the four Original Plaids in "Forever
Plaid" where he originated the role of Smudge. He
was last seen at Moonlight as Corny Collins in
"Hairspray". "The Music Man" will fill the stage
with music and dancing with 54 cast members,
including 20 children. Six cast members of "All
Shook Up" will also be seen in "The Music
Man". They are Danny Hansen, Ala Tiatia, Drew
Bradford, (dancers), Koda Montoya as Tommy
Djilas, Emma Nossal as Zaneeta, and Tracy Lore
(Mayor Matilda Hyde) as the Mayor's wife, Eulalie
MacKecknie Shinn.
Bets Malone has just directed the youth production
of "Once On This Island" for Moonlight Youth
Theater, formerly known as Encore Youth Theater.
Originally the directing duties were supposed to be
shared with Robert Townsend, "Sweeney Todd",
but Robert was called to make his Broadway debut
in Mama Mia until it closes.
Natalie Storrs, "Wonderettes", will be appearing at
Gateway Playhouse of Long Island and then move
to the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine.
Larry Raben, Robin in "Spamalot" and director of
"Catch Me If You Can" last season, has just
directed the musical "Nice Work If You Can Get It"
at The Gateway Playhouse on Long Island and it
Chester Lockhart, "Hairspray", will appear on
MTV when "Toddy Rock Star" moves from the
computer to the TV screen on August 31st.
Last summer's concert group, The Midtown Men,
will be making their return to Broadway to end their
Nation Wide Tour. The show features Tony Award
winner, Christian Hoff, "Dames at Sea", and other
members of "Jersey Boys" original cast.
Adam Lambert was recently seen on the Live With
Kelly and Michael show to sing Ghost and talk
about his recent tour with the Rock Group Queen.
He is releasing his most recent album "The Original
High".
Morgan Marcell (Matayoshi), daughter of Pam
Matayoshi and veteran of several youth shows, was
last seen on the National Tour of "In the
Heights". She has just joined the cast of the new
musical "Hamilton" written by the team who
created "In the Heights".
Charl Brown "Ragtime" is in a new, heading for
Broadway play at Paper Mill Playhouse in New
Jersey. It is based on the movie, "Ever After".
Charlie Williams, director/choreographer of "All
Shook Up", will be returning next month to San
Diego to choreograph a segment of Comic
Con. Eric Anderson has just landed the role of Cal
in the new Sara Bareilles play, "Waitress" which is
opening in Boston as it begins its pre-Broadway
run.
Pull out your Red/White/Blue clothes and polish
your Slide Trombone and get ready for our next
great show, "The Music Man".

Moonlight Cultural Foundation Reports
By Toria Watson, Executive Director
The 35th Anniversary Season is beginning with a
renewed energy at the Moonlight Amphitheatre this
summer. All Shook Up is drawing praise from
audiences as well as the critics, Angel opportunity
ticket sales are off to a robust start, and Moonlight
Cultural Foundation donors are bringing new friends
for us to cultivate. Everyone is having a great time and
we are raising important funds while doing so!
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the
dedicated work of the Angels Luncheon committee.
It was a tremendous success and offered a rousing
preview of the summer’s entertainment. For me
personally, it was such an honor to announce Carolyn
Chirioboga as the 2015 Star Award Recipient for
volunteer of the year.
It was also a distinct honor to announce Sara and Ray
Botts as the recipients of the Moonlight Cultural
Foundation Award of Excellence at our Gala on May
30th. Over 160 guests from the greater arts community
contributed to this elegant event which raised $95,000
toward the cause.

MOONLIGHT’S MAY LUNCHEON WAS
“ALL SHOOK UP”
Moonlight Angels and Guests were greeted by a cut-out ELVIS and others as they strolled into the
foyer of the Sheraton Hotel, no, not Heartbreak Hotel for our “All Shook Up” May Luncheon.
What a fun day it was as many Angels and guests dressed in their 50’s attire. Going back to the
day…………..… poodle skirts, sweaters, saddle shoes, t-shirts, school shirts, sweaters and school colors.
Table decorations set the mood with a pink milkshake sitting on a black vinyl Elvis record and bubble gum spread around;
the menu and thank you written inside a colorful motif jukebox. Music played to fit the mood before and after the
luncheon.
