KMUTNB Symbolism
KMUTNB’s Emblem
The emblem of the Great Crown (Maha Mongkut), the
royal seal of King Rama IV, was kindly granted to the
University by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
KMUTNB’s Color
Vermilion, a vivid reddish-orange color, was the color
of Siam’s King Rama IV; and thus it has been adopted as
KMUTNB’s color.
The Tree of KMUTNB
‘Red Pradoo’, a strong vascular plant in Thailand
growing to about 80 feet high and yielding a bright yellowred to dark-brick red color, is the symbolic tree of the
University. The orange-vermilion flowers are annually in full
bloom in February, commemorating the period of KMUTNB’s
establishment on the 19th of February.

Thai-German Dual Education and e-Learning Development
Institute (TGDE) Setup Project
King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok established the project of “Thai-German Dual Education
and e-Learning Development Institute (TGDE).” The collaborative mission ensued the endorsement of an academic MOU
between Thai Ministry of Education and the Federal Foreign Office of the Republic of Germany, in addition to Bangkok
Protocol signed between KMUTNB and German representative on the similar occasion. Both agreements had been carried
out in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Thai-German Diplomatic Relations and 53 years of academic
cooperation between KMUTNB and Germany. The mutual accords place emphasis upon Thai-German industry
collaboration, provision of German experts for consultant services, as well as concerted coordination among universities/
enterprises in both countries. Preliminary support in response to Thai, German, EU and ASEAN community requirements
features both cash assistance and in-kind contributions from a great number of KMUTNB’s partner organizations
incorporating Festo, Lucas-Nülle, Bitwise, Danieli, TOT Public Company, Thai-German Chamber of Commerce, Industry
Ministry’s Department of Industrial Works, the German Universities of Applied Sciences, and the Technical and Research
University from Germany.
TGDE aims primarily to collaborate with Thai-German industries to promote the paradigm of “Dual System and
Cooperative Education” in combination with the development of enriched e-learning materials. The undertakings provide
great opportunities for academic personnel, students, skilled workforce, technicians, technologists, engineers and
professional management so they can keep abreast of dynamic technology trends in the era of globalization. Furthermore,
partnership initiatives will contribute to cooperative knowledge transfer and training in favor of caliber academic staff and
improved qualification standards of technical instructors, technologists and practical engineers in ASEAN countries. Last
but not least, extensive provision of academic consulting and educational services to public and private sectors, locally
and internationally will be fostered. A variety of services predominantly lay emphasis on information technology issues in
support of industrial business and education sectors, such as e-commerce, e-procurement, e-manufacturing, e-supply
chain and e-training.
The collaborative endeavor was initiated in pursuit of the 150th year of Thai-German diplomacy relations and the
53 anniversary of academic relationship between Germany and KMUTNB, formerly called Thai-German Technical School
founded under an academic cooperation between KMUTNB and Germany in 1959. To mark this particular occasion,
KMUTNB hosted “Thai–German Conference on Dual Education & Dual Studies” on 1-2 October 2012 with immense
success.
