To say Michael Simon has bike building in his blood is an understatement. A native of the San Fernando Valley in Southern California, Simon built his first bike at age 14. Inspired by his uncle and
his father, Simon developed a passion for Panheads, Knuckleheads and Shovelheads. He learned
to wrench, modify and fabricate through a combination of necessity, interest and natural ability.
The type of bike Simon prefers to build is short and handles well with plenty of horsepower and
modern technology while respectfully maintaining the spirit of the classic bikes he grew up with.
One of Simon’s recent projects, the Harbor Bomber, was built over a period of 8 days and filmed
for a biker build off style show. Simon was faced with the challenge of building a motorcycle from
scratch, in his unique style, while cameras captured the process. For the Harbor Bomber to be completed successfully in such a limited time frame required assistance and cooperation from several
of Simon’s associates. He needed to know every aspect of the build would go smoothly. One of
Simon’s trusted resources is his team at Custom Chrome. Among the components he selected from
the Custom Chrome catalog are a 88” black Pandemonium motor and a Rev Tech 6 speed transmission. “I had to fire up that motor while they filmed me. It started perfectly on the first try! Then
we raced. The motor was right out of the crate and hadn’t even been tuned yet. There were no
practice passes and the whole thing was filmed live. Even with a suicide clutch I did 116 mph in a
12 second pass!”

Simon, who opened his first shop in 1998 is a long time fan of the Rev Tech product line. He has
used the motors, trannies and primaries in several of his builds. Simon’s personal bike boasts a Rev
Tech 110” motor and Santee rigid frame selected from the Custom Chrome catalog.
