From The School Leadership Team
On Tuesday the hustle and bustle of school life was put on hold for
a few minutes to commemorate Remembrance Day. This year was
the 96th anniversary of the armistice which brought to a close the
First World War and we paused to remember the sacrifice of all
Australians involved in wars and armed conflicts throughout the
history of our nation.
It was quite touching to have absolute quiet throughout the
school and the associated building sites for the minute of silence.
All classes paused to commemorate the occasion, many classes
gathered around the Peace Poles outside our Library to pay their
respect.
Congratulations to Jordan Lovaszy (Year 9), whose sterling
performance of the Last Post and Reveille brought on goose
bumps for many of us. Next year, with the opening of our new
building we will be able to come together around the Peace Poles
on ANZAC day to commemorate 100 years since the landing at
Gallipoli.
In terms of building activity, all buildings are on track to be
operational for the start of the 2015 school year. Our school
grounds may feel a bit constricted at the moment, yet the new
buildings and facilities will be a significant addition to our school
community. We have worked hard to minimise the impact on our
students and teachers and we wish to thank everyone for their
continued patience during this time.
We would like to congratulate all the P&F volunteers who have
given their time so generously this year. It was a wonderful event
on Wednesday evening gathering to say thank you for all the hard
work throughout the year. The whole school community certainly
has appreciated the dedication and commitment of these parents.
Next week is the final week for our Year 12 students. They have a
modified program to look forward to, including their Graduation
Dinner next Thursday evening and their final farewell assembly
on the Friday.
It has been a pleasure working with the Year 12 students, their
performance as a cohort has been strong across all subjects and
they have made some impressive contributions to our school
community. We know they will finish with the same strong sense
of dignity and integrity they have shown all year.

Access Road Between Hillbrook & OLA
We’ve been asked by OLA to remind Hillbrook families that the
road between Hillbrook and OLA is for OLA parents only. It’s
important to respect our neighbours’ wishes, so please do not
use this road.
Hillbrook P&F - Partnership With The
Sustainable School Shop
In agreeing to investigate online options for the sale of second
hand Hillbrook uniforms, the P&F sought a website which would:
Be free or low cost
Be easy to use
Require minimum involvement by the school community in regard
to administration
The P&F researched a number of existing online websites
dedicated to school uniform sales within Australia, and decided
to partner with www.sustainableschoolshop.com.au.
In addition to promoting the recycling of second hand items
within the school community, the Sustainable School Shop has a
School Benefit Program which contributes:
10% of total gross revenue from Hillbrook registrations to the
P&F on an annual basis
4% of total gross revenue from Hillbrook registrations to assist
less fortunate Australian schools establish on line second hand
trading systems

Our Spring Music Concert Series has finished and we are now
gearing up for 2015. Students need to return all ensemble music
and have their music folders renewed by Peggy at Music reception.
Auditions will be held for senior ensembles and Synergy Strings
over the next few weeks. Details and music is available at Music
reception.
Applications for instrumental music lessons are now available
on our website. Details are attached to this newsletter. Current
students having lessons will automatically be enrolled for next
year. Students wishing to withdraw from the co-curricular
program must have written permission from a parent or carer
through email or letter to the Music department by the end of
this term.
Senior Music Camp will take place from Saturday 14 February to
Monday 16 February. Students in Wind Symphony, Senior Strings,
Senior Guitar and Senior Choir will be invited to accept through
Parent Lounge at the end of this term. This is a major event for
Music students and all eligible students are expected to attend.
